Cruise Ship Trip Reports

Trip Reports
TPR's Alaskan Adventure - 2014

An amazing view of Hubbard Glacier, Alaska from Radiance of the Seas!

Look at Arendelle! It's completely frozen!

Something certainly had a nice...um..."lunch" here!

Oh noes! Getting attacked by a polar bear!!!

Nearly 11pm here in Alaska & still light outside! Love the long days here in the north!

Final night of our Alaskan cruise! It's been an amazing week!

We say goodbye to Royal Caribbean Radiance of the Seas in Seward, Alaska. Was a fantastic week!

Having pizza & beer in Alaska @FrontierBrew thinking of @scottspizzatour (Elissa gives the pizza thumbs up!)

Tonight we are staying at Wilderness Lodge, but ones that's VERY far away from WDW in Denali, Alaska!

As much as we love Disney's Wilderness Lodge, this one in Denali, Alaska has an amazing backdrop!

I wonder if @scottspizzatour has any pizza boxes from Alaska? (I'm assuming yes...)

This is what 8pm in Alaska looks like! lol

And 11pm doesn't look much different!

Today's Alaskan Adventure was an 8 hour bus tour of Denali National Park to see nature & mountains & bears. Oh my!

This place has a $53 pizza! @ProspectorPizza Should we try it!?

Scott, here's the interior of an Alaskan Pizzeria!

Gotta love a place with 49 beers on tap and not a single bottled beer in the building!

Pizza with Reindeer sausage! @ProspectorPizza "Reindeers taste better than people. Sven don't you think that's true?"

Who would have ever thought we'd get kick A$$ pizza in the middle of Alaska???

Final night in Alaska! Sun should set about 11:45pm tonight!

Here are some of my random thoughts from the trip:

- Overall it's a pretty cool place and exceeded my expectations.

- I don't like "real" nature, but I don't mind "manufactured" nature in small doses. i.e. Crabfishing & Dog Sledding tour, thumbs up! Denali and random glaciers, thumbs down. I guess you can say I'm like Clark W. Griswold when it comes to nature. "Grand Canyon? *click* Got the photo... Let's go!"

- There were some really kick A$$ pizza & beer here! Who knew??? Seriously that Alaskan Amber was one of the best beers I've had! (Even Elissa loved it!)

- The "locals" were an odd mix of real locals and people who have moved here from all over. I was expecting some sort of "Alaskan accent", but there really wasn't one. And overall, everyone seemed really friendly. (Then again, so do Californians in short visits...)

- The scenery was nice, but I think as someone that grew up in California with mountains all around, and getting stuck going to places like Yosemite as a kid, the topography was mostly lost on me. Nice? Yes. And it was a great contrast from Florida, but not my thing.

- Seeing lots of snow on the mountains made me want to go skiing. This might have been the most amount of snow I've been surrounded by without being on a ski trip!

- The cruise was a nice way to see all of this without being too inundated by it all.

- I like the Radiance class ships a lot. Even this being our fifth sailing on one, it didn't get old and wasn't disappointing in the slightest.

- I really do not like seafood.

- Alaska has a lot of Pepsi. That's a shame.

- It's pretty cool in a twisted sort of way having it look like two thirty in the afternoon at eleven o'clock at night!

- Aside from the obvious distance away from the "lower 48" and the higher volume of nature around you, most of Alaska feels like one giant "ski resort town" like Park City or Big Bear. (This is not a bad thing!)

- It's kind of amusing hearing them constantly refer to the "lower 48" on the news and other places on TV. "So in the lower 48, there was a shooting in Santa Barbara, California..."

- Alaska tourist merchandise humor is more clever than the Caribbean, although it's less vulgar. So I guess it's kind of a toss up.

- I had some really good Taco Bell here! How strange considering how far away we are from Mexico!

- Was really strange seeing everyone post night time fireworks and parade photos from the 24 Hour Disney days on both costs, yet it was still daylight outside for us at 10:30pm! While we've been in other parts of the world where it's light into the late evening, it was weird still being in the USA while other people not that far time zones away from us were at night!

- Apparently Alaska is where Grandmothers go after something tragic happens to Grandpa.

- You can easily tell the locals from the tourists and the locals all seem to wear shorts & T-Shirts even when it's 40 degrees outside! (I feel like I fit in here.)

- Alaska is much like Dollywood where you can play "count the black people" and you *might* end up with a score of ten by the end of your trip. (Not being prejudice, just an observation!)

- Cars are very dirty in this state!

- I was unable to see Russia from anywhere we were at in Alaska.

- Everyone we met seemed more intelligent than Sarah Palin, so I have no idea how the hell that happened!!!

- Like I said, overall, it was a great trip! Would highly recommend a visit via cruise ship or other travel to come to Alaska, and we would most certainly do it again!

Thanks for reading!
