Belmont Park in San Diego, CA is home of one of the two classic woodies in California, the Giant Dipper. This 1925 Prior and Church
designed twister was saved from the bulldozers and re-opened in 1990.
Thanks to the 'Save the Coaster Committee', this classic woodie still continues to thrill new riders!

The Giant Dipper is one of the oldest coasters in the country.  Built in 1925, this coaster was set to be demolished in the 80s.  In 1990, thanks to a group of people who contributed to save the coaster, it was re-opened and saw immediate success.

Like many of the classic twisters of the 20s that are long gone, the Giant Dipper has a very tight twisting first drop.

Here you can see how twisted the drops on this ride are!

There are plenty of hills and dips on this coaster, but not much straight track!

Out of a very long, dark tunnel, and up the noisy chain lift!

After the first drop, this sort of a twisted double dip.

The first and second turn around.

Don't forget to visit the museum next to the coaster!

And this excellent pub across the street!
