In 1998, Alton Towers added "Oblivion," a freefall ride that uses a roller coaster system.


Riders are taken to the top of the drop and held for a moment looking down...


...then let go through the tunnel (above). The entire ride takes about 15 seconds!


Here you can see the car coming back up from the tunnel to the brake run!


Nemesis is an incredible inverted coaster, completely built in the ground!


Alton Towers has to blast though tons of rock to build this world class ride!


Nemesis' inverted design allows riders legs to hang free
while experiencing 4 inversions and some twisted track!


Alton's Corkscrew was the first looping roller coaster in the UK!


Alton Towers is build around this landmark castle.
The castle doors are open for visitors to wander freely.


The Thunder Looper was a classic Shuttle Loop. It's last year of operation was in 1996. 
One of the park's latest thrill rides, Ripsaw, now sits in it's place.
