Food |
Fried chicken, biscuits, and boysenberry jam are the stars here. Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant in the Marketplace outside the park's main gate has been an institution for years--some locals love it, others complain that it "isn't what it used to be." It also draws good-sized crowds during the summer tourist season (there's a take-out location, as well).
Pink's, a famous Los Angeles hot dog joint, has a stand in the Marketplace also.
You'll find Johnny Rocket's, Panda Express, and the Spurs Chop House (steaks) inside the park. The Chow House serves chili and potato cream soup in a large sourdough bowl. Many people love Knott's boysenberry soda, too.
If none of these options sound appealing, there's always TGI Friday's, right across from the park's ticket booths. |
Operating Season |
Knott's is a year-round park. Check the park's Web site for operating times. |
Established Seasonal events |
Knott's Haunt is the original theme-park Halloween event, and it draws huge crowds starting in late September and through Halloween.
Knott's Merry Farm is the park's Christmas event, which involves fundraisers for Toys for Tots and other charities.
Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular is a festival of lights held in Camp Snoopy during the summer months.
The month long Boysenberry Festival occurs annual in March |
Access & Location |
Knott's is located at 8039 Beach Blvd. in Buena Park, Calif. (about 10 minutes from Disneyland). The park is served by I-91 (exit at Beach Blvd. or Knott Ave.) and I-5 (exit at Beach Blvd. or Knott Ave.). |
Nearby Lodging |
Knott's Berry Farm Hotel is adjacent to the park and offers packages that include admission and rooms. There are other hotels and motels in Buena Park near the park, as well. |
Virtual Queue Options |
Knott's Berry Farm offers "Fast Lane" for 13 of their most popular rides. |
Shows |
Knott's offers a variety of Old West-inspired entertainment, including a stunt show, a saloon show, and Native American dancing. Mystery Lodge is a unique show featuring Native American lore. |

TPR Notes |
|
Knott's Berry Farm is a legendary Southern California theme park that started off as a Ghost Town and fried-chicken restaurant and expanded greatly over the years.
It now boasts nine coasters, a good selection of water and flat rides, and a selection of unique blasts to the past, such as an old-fashioned mine-train or stagecoach ride.
Being purchased by Cedar Fair in 1999 has led to less theming and more rides, but the unique Ghost Town area is largely intact and the friendly staff can still make Knott's feel like a small independent park.
It has a legendary Halloween event each year that should not be missed, and make sure you try the famous fried chicken and boysenberry soda. The gift shops are above average with a large selection of crafts, kitchen, and food products, along with its signature Knott's Berry Farm Jams and Jellies.

My family and I spent a day at the park recently. My children are ages 4 and 6- young enough for the kid's rides, but tall enough for the family rides. Unfortunately for us at least 25% of the rides were not up and running during our visit. The park itself was clean and fairly quiet. The staff that we interacted with (food, ride operators, and gift shop staff) were disappointing and rude. Most acted as if that was the last place they wanted to be. Because so many of the rides were shut down (could be a seasonal thing) and the rudeness of the staff we have no plans to return to this park. This was not our first visit by any means and we've seen this park go downhill with each visit. Very sad to see things this way.

A fantastic park

Knott's is my home park, so I've been more than enough times to have a solid opinion. It is a fantastic park. The coasters are loads of fun. Xcelerator is, in my opinion, the best steel roller coaster in SoCal. Ghost Rider is a great wooden coaster (if you're near the front). And aside from the thrill rides, much of the theming/history of the park has been kept. There are several flats to choose from, and the skyline of the park is beautiful! It has a nice selection of family rides, as well as the best shuttle loop you will find! While Silver Bullet is considered mediocre to others, I think it's a great looping coaster with the most airtime on an invert that I've experienced. Overall, KBF is a fantastic park with a very solid lineup.

Has stood the test of time

This park has managed to continue to be a wonderful park for many many years. The theming rivals that of it's local Disney rivals. This park is a must visit for families and thrill seekers. Xcelerator is an excellent launched coaster, and despite what others may say, I personally believe that Ghost Rider is an awesome (albeit a little rough) wooden coaster.

My first visit to Knotts was so exciting: the park had a ton of charm and unique attractions. As it has continued to grow as a Cedar Fair park, a lot of that charm has been removed in favor of handful of mediocre coasters. Quite frankly, Silver Bullet is one of the lamest B&M's ever built, Ghostrider is rough as hell, their boomerang is one of the worst out there, and Pony Express is just sort of WTF? The park does have some redeeming qualities though: Xcelerator is a great ride, the log flume is classic, and the Calico Mine Ride is really awesome and filled with history.

Knotts has a much more laid back atmosphere when compared to other Cedar Fair parks. The rides and attractions go from blah to great. Xcelerator is a fun ride as is Silver Bullet. Ghostrider has gotten a tad bit rough and Pony Express turly is pointless.
Knotts has a decent number of flat rides and the Calico mine and the log ride are both must see and do attractions.
Pinks Dogs are located outside of the park along with shopping and a TGI Fridays. The hotel is also a nice play to stay.

Knott's has something for everyone. Enough coasters, family attractions, and memories and history for the old timers as well. The park is usually kept very clean and rides run very exceptional. Only concern is over priced and bad quality food. It's always fun to just walk around and relax as well.

A Great Park filled with History

For out of state travelers, Knott's is usually overshadowed by Disneyland & Six Flags Magic Mountain, though it is a nice median between these two extremes. While Knott's has a very good coaster collection, the park is definitely not all about thrill rides. Knott's is a very show oriented amusement park where there is always tons of shows playing. Knott's has a lot of amazing rides known to be legendary in Southern California such as the Mine Ride, Log Ride, & Calico Railroad. Knott's has tons of historic artifacts and buildings and you could spend a whole day looking around Ghost Town.

This historic park has some really nice theme areas, cool old-school attractions, and some amazing coasters, but several things are working against it. It's small but draws large crowds, leading to a feeling of pandemonium when navigating the park. The small size also means that the newest coasters are unique but too brief to truly recommend. Operations are some of the worst I've ever seen, and line cutting is a major problem. There's a lot to love about KBF; shame there's so many drawbacks.

Not Classic Knott's Anymore, but Still Worth a Visit

Since Cedar Fair took over the park in the mid-90s, Knott's has seen a shift from a family-run theme park to a corporate thrill park. While the skyline is dominated by coasters, some of the classic Knott's attractions, such as the Log Ride and Mine Ride, remain in a relatively unchanged state. While it isn't what it once was, Knott's is still a fun park and does have a good variety of attractions, as well as one of the best kids' areas in any park.

Compared to Magic Mountain and Disneyland Knott's is a relaxing park. It has some nice coasters, and a very cool log flume. It is very generic, but somehow retains a nice charm that magic mountain does not.

Great park to visit without staying the whole day

Knott's Berry Farm is a park that has gone through some changes but it's still a fun park to visit. The park in the early to mid 90's had a special charm that it currently lacks but it's still a park I enjoy visiting. My first coaster ever was Montezooma's Revenge so I always tell my friends that haven't ridden a coaster that Knott's is a perfect "Ice Breaker" park for anyone wanting to break their fear of coasters.

Is It Really THAT Bad?

These days, it seems that in a park chain like Cedar Fair, you are lucky to see any theming. However, I am glad to see Ghost Town still fully intact after all these years, and seemingly fast dispatches on Silver Bullet and Ghostrider. However, be aware of the slow dispatches in the rest of the park. Overall, although Knott's has lost some of its class is feel, it still has a few notable coasters, and, some quite well-themed areas. (BTW, at least operations were better than SFDK!)

Pros |
- Camp Snoopy is great for kids.
- Xcelerator is rated one of the best steel coasters in California.
- Ghost Town still retains much of the parks original history.
- Calico Mine Train and Timber Mountain Log Ride are legendary in the world of themed attractions.
| |
Cons |
- As newer, bigger rides have moved in, some of the "classic" feel has been lost.
