TPR Notes |
|
Built at the foot of Mount Compounce, the park utilizes the natural terrain for its two signature attractions, Boulder Dash and the SkyRide.
The older flat rides tend to run less-than-thrilling cycles, but the newer attractions can be more intense.
The park offers free Pepsi products and wet water rides to help guests cool down on those humid summer days.
The park does not take up a huge footprint but squeezes a small water park within its boundaries and admission price. | |

Amazing Coaster!!!

I had never been to Compounce before this year and I had heard that Boulder Dash is amazing, well IT WAS!!! My new number one wooden Coaster, this ride alone made my visit, the speed was incredible and the close encouters to the trees only enhanced the ride.
Im glad I picked LC of SFNE on my CT trip, it was a good family park with plenty of family rides and an amazing coaster. I loved the free soda and the food was actually pretty good and not as overpriced as i thought it would be.
T & L was pretty awesome and my first S&S Swing and Downtime was a nice Drop Tower. Ghost Hunt needs an overhaul, i didn't hit a single target and im a decent shot. Other than a 2nd major coaster LC is a solid family park and I hope to return again someday.

Lake Compounce is another small-medium sized park, and while it's corporate owned, it's got that family run feel to it. By far the best thing there is Boulder Dash, the award winning coaster. Once off the lift hill this ride does not stop until you hit the break run.
Other rides in the park, are the thunder and lightning swing, flyers, a drop tower, a shooting dark ride, and a couple other mediocre coasters. There is also a waterpark which has the slides going directly into Lake Compounce which is kind of cool.
Lastly, the food at Lake Compounce was pretty awesome for the buffet we had. Free soda at the park was pretty cool as well. Very easy to stay hydrated with the soda machines around.

Lake Compounce is full of charm and has a good range of offerings. There is a pretty good variety of flats for a park it's size, and the water rides will drench you. The setting on the side of the mountain is beautiful and the Sky Ride can not be missed! I mean, I pissed in my pants, but it was worth it. The food is good and affordable: the Fried Bats are awesome. Zoomerang is relatively smooth, and Wilcat is so painful that it's almost hilarious. A cute shooting dark ride and nostalgic carousel are worth a mention, and the small included waterpark doesn't hurt. The most important thing is obviously Boulderdash. This coaster is rapturous and almost makes me believe in God. DO NOT miss riding at night. The after-5pm special is a great value.

Everyone makes this place seem like it's AMAZING. Well it isn't that good.
They have about two or three good, outstanding flats like enterprise, thunder 'n' lightning and down time. They only have one good coaster that is really good! Wildcat just hurts and zoomerang is no different to any other boomerang. Also there is a oval kiddie coaster. The park hasn't actually added a new ride in years. There all replasements. Even the new slide will be replacing some ride. It gets boring there pretty fast. The park it self isn't bad. But the location, prices and many of there rides are not impresive.

Lake Compounce has a crazy mix of rides from the OMFG Boulder Dash to the OMFG Wildcat(not in the good way) Take a swing on the S&S Screamin Swing or get freaked out on the sky ride up the mountain.
A neat shooting dark ride and free Pepsi will satisfy your needs.
The food is outstanding especially at the group picnics. You will find BBQ, hamburgers/hotdogs, soups, potato bar, a taco bar, and maybe, if you are lucky, beer!

A Great, Small Park

Lake Compounce is a wonderful place to spend an evening. They have a nice assortment of rides, including several coasters, flats, and a dark ride. Obviously, Boulder Dash is the main draw for this park, and it really is a phenomenal coaster (especially at night). Aside from that, the park has a cool log flume and sky ride that make use of the natural terrain. This is definitely a must-visit for traditional amusement park fans.

In My opinion this is a fantastic park. We have season passes and go about 20 times a season. The only problem is although Boulder Dash is a fantastic ride, it definetly doesnt run like it used to. Wildcat is painful, and Zoomerang is just anothe Vekoma Boomerang. The food is fantastic, especially the Kennywood fries, and they have a great kids section. They also have a phenomenal haunted graveyard! Great family park.

Very Good Mid-Size Park with Just One Problem

Lake Compounce is a great park. It is a corporate park, but for the most park it still feels pretty close to a traditional amusement park. There is a good selection of rides, with several above average flat rides and a good (but short) log flume. However, the park does have one significant problem. Although the park is home to Boulder Dash, undoubtedly one of the world's best wooden coasters, the other two major coasters are very poor. However, this can be overlooked if you are here for the park and not the coasters. Lake Compounce is an excellent 1/2 to 2/3 of a day park, but it isn't large enough to justify a full day, even with the included waterpark.

An Enthusiast MUST Stop

Thunderhead

The Park itself is the smallest I have ever been to, and yet is one of my all-time favorites. Boulder Dash is the star here, and currently holds my #1 Wooden Coaster position. Yes, I have ridden El Toro, Thunderhead and Texas Giant. This CCI Redo is a masterpiece, with the most airtime on any coaster out there. Riding this beast in a medium drizzle had me come out soaking wet and laughing for 20 minutes. That was the greatest coaster experience I have ever had. Wildcat and Zoomerang aren't half bad either, and I particularly liked Thunder and Lightning (Screamin' Swings are my favorite flats) Overall, a must for anyone in the Northeast USA.

I was only planning to go for an evening, but wound up going for an entire day, and was very glad I did! The employees (ride ops in particular) were the friendliest I've ever seen, and very efficient. Boulder Dash is an amazing ride, as well as the Sky Ride and Wave Swinger, which had the chains nearly horizontal. I was a bit disappointed in some other rides, but the overall charm of the park more than made up for them. Really enjoyed seeing the trolley as well, food was good and well priced, and Cirque en Vol was very entertaining! I look forward to returning.

This park has a lot to offer beyond the amazing Boulder Dash. One ride most people don't talk about is the sky ride on the south end of the park. On a clear day, you can see four states from the top and the ride down is steeper than you think! The rapids ride is still one of the best I have been on, guaranteed to get you soaked every time, and the log flume is very unique. A great selection of flats are all over the park. They also put on a great event in October; the 45 min walkthrough is HHN quality!

A fun park with a GREAT coaster

As was said before, Boulder Dash is the compelling reason for a coaster enthusiast to visit Lake Compounce. However, it is actually a very charming and well-maintained park in a beautiful setting. I had no problem filling an entire day there, enjoying the setting, riding the various flat rides (including the unique and excellent sky ride), and of course many rides on Boulder Dash. The park has a great text-messaging based line-skipping program that is reasonably priced and very handy on a busy day (and no lugging around a bulky Flash Pass). Lake Compounce is clean, friendly, efficient and reasonably priced (love the free soda!).

There's no doubt- Lake Compounce is mostly just a home for the top-notch Boulder Dash, and chances are your opinions of the two aren't far apart. However, in my short experience at the park it was a wonderful old-school amusement park. Overall, the park is an excellent mix of the small and large park styles; while some may complain of its ride selection being too small or blasé to fill an entire day, an evening at Lake Compounce is a perfect way to take in an almost movie-like amusement park atmosphere with friends.

A Good Family Park with One Outstanding Coaster

Lake Compounce makes a great family day out. There is a nice waterpark, tons of kiddie rides, and a wonderful traditional atmosphere (it is the oldest park in the US). The one negative of this park that instantly comes to mind is Wildcat. You would hope for a fun, traditional family woodie, right? Wrong! What you get is a forceless, rough death machine. But that is counteracted by Boulder Dash, which is my personal #1 coaster. It has speed, air, and terrain. Plan to spend a half day.

While this small Connecticut park doesn't quite have the "quaint charm" of say, Knoebels or Gilroy Gardens, it does offer an intimate setting for a nice selection of flats and one of the best woodies in the country, Boulder Dash. Boulder Dash is pure coaster bliss. It's worth noting that Zoomerang is easily the best boomerang I've ridden. It wasn't rough and it looks great with a cool color scheme and iridescent trains. The same can't be said for Wildcat, one of the roughest woodies you'll find.

I love Lake Compounce! Boulder Dash is an amazing wooden roller coaster, and the flat rides are awesome too. The skyride is very unique and provides great views of the park. The free soda and included waterpark also make this a really awesome park to visit for a day!
