Calaway Park is a family friendly amusement outside of Calgary and close to the Rocky Mountains. The park originally opened with a Hanna Barbera licensing agreement and many of the Flintstone theming can still be found in the front of the park.
At this park families come first in regards to the attractions. However, there are still options for people looking for big thrills on their traditional flat rides (Enterprise, Swinging Ship, Trioka, Round-Up) and the Vortex roller coaster.
The park also has a quirkyness to it which shows in their upcharge attractions in the form of Mini Golf and a Interactive Dual Maze Zone. But the oddest attraction is The Fishing Hole, where you can buy a fishing license and fish for trout.
The park offers typical food options (burgers, pizza, BBQ) at fair prices at plenty of places to snack.
The park has a very laid back atmosphere. Although there are no great coasters and thrill rides are sparse, there is still a lot to do at the park, including some unique attractions. Where else can you fish within a park? The park has many popular flat rides. The park is in a beautiful area and you can easily visit the nearby former Winter Olympic site.
The park is very well maintained. All of the rides, theming, and buildings are visually appealing. The park is geared toward families, but there are still plenty of rides for adults to ride. Be aware that the looping roller coaster (Vortex) only runs one train and each ride consists of two cycles. The line can be misleading, because there are switchbacks in the station. During my visit I waited about 30 or 45 minutes to ride. I would suggest planning a half day for this park.
