Photo TR: Puyallup Fair 2010 (9/11/2010)

Postby Six Flags Enthuseast » Fri Sep 17, 2010 6:50 pm

If anybody remembers, last year, I went to the Puyallup Fair. The Puyallup Fair is Washington State's most profitable attraction, drawing over 1,000,000 guests each year in its September 10th - 26th span. The fair is well known for its animals, its food, its vendors, and its rides. Naturally, being on a theme park website, I like the check out the latter. This year, I went again and did so.

So now... Let's start off with a POV!

And now some good news from Lucario.....
DSC01559.jpg
"Guess what? No long, irrelevent prologue crap! We're getting right to the photos, people!"
DSC01560.jpg
I'm setting my glee free!
DSC01564.jpg
Turnstiles, like at most major theme parks. Just because there isn't a prologue doesn't mean it won't include this kind of shot. =)
DSC01565.jpg
Enter through the Blue Gate and to your right.... very unhealthy food!
DSC01570.jpg
They call it YoungLife because your life will end young, due to the fact that it's at a fair and it will be automatically bad for you.
DSC01572.jpg
The same group as last year (Minus Savannah and Jennifer, plus new exchange student and her daughter. FYI, the exchange student has been to Everland! She probably has a credit on Aquatrax! =) ).
DSC01576.jpg
That Fiesta that was advertised last year.... Now it's the real deal!
DSC01577.jpg
Does anybody know what this is?
DSC01579.jpg
I'm sure everybody knows what this is!
DSC01583.jpg
Kamakazi
DSC01584.jpg
Kinda like a claustrophobic, traveling version of Hammerhead Shark.
DSC01585.jpg
DSC01587.jpg
I remember I rode that rotor thing 2 years ago. And I remember I rode that launch tower thingy last year! (Yes I know it's called Extreme Scream)
DSC01588.jpg
I remember I rode this last year too.
DSC01589.jpg
DSC01591.jpg
And here we are, a VERY old, ACE approved woodie!
DSC01592.jpg
According to the Index, this ride isn't operating...
DSC01594.jpg
Jumping. The portable, claustrophobic version of the one at Canada's Wonderland.
DSC01596.jpg
Pretty much an arctic themed Musik Express.
DSC01598.jpg
DSC01602.jpg
Enterprise
DSC01603.jpg
DSC01607.jpg
Ring of Fire, but with a different name.
DSC01609.jpg
Now, time for the chairswing!
DSC01611.jpg
Wanna see what happens after this? Watch the POV!
DSC01613.jpg
Next up is Sky Diver.
DSC01614.jpg
DSC01617.jpg
Control panel shot!
DSC01620.jpg
Artsy shot
DSC01618.jpg
After riding twice, I really wanted to just sit down in one of these things.
DSC01621.jpg
Next is the flying thingy. Like a __________, more ___________ version of Hang Glider at Wild Waves.

(Insert correct caption to win bonus points!)
DSC01623.jpg
I like the new 'ticket' system. You buy 'tickets', but instead of getting actual tickets, you get a card with the amount of tickets you purchased. Then, you go to whatever ride you want to ride (that accepts tickets), give the card to a person, and they scan it. If it works, you can just get on the ride. Easy, simple, quick, and more organized! Although you will probably want to track exactly how many 'tickets' you're using, because you can easily loose track of how many points you spend.
DSC01624.jpg
Fluffy, fluffy dalmation filled with medicine and goo!

Part 2 soon to follow. Thanks for reading!

Part 2

Coaster Thrill Ride POV

Continuing where we left off....
DSC01625.jpg
I spy with my little eye... a LOT of new wood!
DSC01626.jpg
Compare to a similar shot I took last year... You'll notice all of the NEW WOOD!
DSC01629.jpg
You'll notice the NEW WOOD here too!
DSC01631.jpg
This might as well be a brand new GCI: Loads of airtime, new wood....
DSC01632.jpg
...and a station fly-above!
DSC01633.jpg
Only one train operation. Still worth the wait, though!
DSC01634.jpg
This sign belongs at Wild Waves.
DSC01637.jpg
This made me VERY happy!
DSC01640.jpg
Larrygator will feed this photo to his best friend, the Indexgator!
DSC01641.jpg
Lots of ride ops meant quick dispatches, but 1 train made that useless.

Also, thanks to the lady who gave me 6 extra tickets because we didn't realize how quickly we spent our tickets! We really appreciate it, if you are reading this! =)
DSC01642.jpg
NOTED!
DSC01644.jpg
Classic no-gates entrance to each car.
DSC01646.jpg
Skid
DSC01649.jpg
Brakes!
DSC01653.jpg
I don't think I'd ever do this.
DSC01655.jpg
This is the closest to a 'Boob credit' you'll get at any American theme park or fair! =)
DSC01658.jpg
Wildcat and Big Sling. Yay!
DSC01660.jpg
Kerappy flume ride!
DSC01662.jpg
3...2...1.... SQUEAK!
DSC01663.jpg
DSC01665.jpg
Wildcat's awesome sign!
DSC01666.jpg
Super(small) Roundup.
DSC01669.jpg
Rumblerumblerumble
DSC01670.jpg
The Tilt-A-Whirl wasn't working today... Minnesotans not-rejoice. =(
DSC01671.jpg
Is it just me, or does the vehicle look like it's floating?
DSC01679.jpg
We decided to ride the Ferris Wheel.
DSC01683.jpg
It's a good wheel, but the ops loaded it and cycled it really inefficiently. Don't ride if there's a long line.
DSC01685.jpg
See? Empty gondola after empty gondola.
DSC01686.jpg
NOTED!
DSC01688.jpg
No Turbo Force this year. =(

Overview.

DSC01709.jpg
Credit whores and KidTums would love this coaster!
DSC01710.jpg
Sling!
DSC01714.jpg
Joey and KidTums are missing! Oh wait, I forgot that Joey's drinking beer and riding a 5-looper Schwarzkoph, and KidTums is probably watching German Yo-Gabba Gabba.
DSC01715.jpg
We decide that it's time to get lunch. Nope, not here.
DSC01716.jpg
Wrong, not here either.
DSC01717.jpg
Certainly not here! I wouldn't want my food to get soggy, especially since that ride is 16 years old... Although Aquatrax wouldn't be bad....
DSC01718.jpg
We have to leave the fair to get this!
DSC01721.jpg
"Where are we going?"
DSC01722.jpg
Alfy's? Nope!
DSC01724.jpg
Group photo before we enter....
DSC01726.jpg
We pass a taco truck, a billion burger joints, several pizza places, scones, ice cream, fried everything, etc. etc. etc..... FOR SUBWAY?!?!?!?
DSC01734.jpg
No matter, I'll try to make the best out of this.
DSC01735.jpg
Footlong Big Philly with mozzerella, lettuce, bacon, and ranch.
DSC01736.jpg
It was quickly turned into a 6 inch!

Awesome painting on the wall!

Part 3 to come tomorrow. Thanks for reading! =)

Nice report.

That Wildcat looks like the same exact model that SFMM had back in the '70s and early '80s---even the same color, too. That fair looks like it has a pretty decent selection of coasters, too.

Eric

EDIT: And I forgot to mention that last December at the L.A. Auto Show, I got to drive a 2011 Ford Fiesta. My thoughts? Eh.

Looks like the fair isn't single rider friendly, no single riders on the Enterprise or Wildcat? I have never seen that before.

I was at the fair today. Though when I got there, the only coaster still running was the wooden one due to rain.

That coaster is so amazing. It's sad that it is almost never open because it is such a good ride.
Also, the rotor there is amazing just for how much the floor drops. The one at Six Flags Great America only dropped like 1 foot.

^^^I remember you said similar things about the 2010 Fiesta. Guess it's not that great? I'll have to get one as a rental to see if I like it or not.

^^Sadly, the fair has many 'Single-rider-unfriendly' rides. It makes things complicated if you go to the fair by yourself. :?r

^Really? It has been running almost every fair that I've gone to. That stinks that it doesn't run more often for you, I know it's a great credit to get. :airtime: :airtimer:

Part 3
DSC01739.jpg
Annie wanted a close-up shot with Lucario... So she gets it.
DSC01742.jpg
We know somebody in this band!
DSC01747.jpg
The girls try some hats on.
DSC01748.jpg
DSC01749.jpg
DSC01751.jpg
Now I'm ready to conquer the Extreme Scream!
DSC01753.jpg
Easy, since I did it thrice last year.
DSC01756.jpg
I just kept on taking artsy shots....
DSC01761.jpg
Indexgator will LOVE this!
DSC01765.jpg
Everybody on this side was pumped and ready to ride, even the invisible guy!
DSC01766.jpg
Proof that this is an S&S Combo Ride.
DSC01770.jpg
He's waiting to push the button....
DSC01771.jpg
...to launch these very nervous people 180ft in the air!
DSC01772.jpg
This wheel spins VERY fast!
DSC01773.jpg
Kick your feet out if you agree.
DSC01775.jpg
We decide just to walk to the other end.... Instead of taking this...
DSC01776.jpg
Those side deflectors turn it from SKLOOSH! to (Skloosh), litereally.
DSC01778.jpg
TPR rode this on their last trip here.
DSC01779.jpg
But...
DSC01780.jpg
...it was closed for testing.
DSC01781.jpg
Inverted Tilt-A-Whirl, anybody?
DSC01783.jpg
Indeed, this fair has 2 KidTums and Credit Whore friendly rides!
DSC01784.jpg
My hump... my baby hump!
DSC01786.jpg
We've reached the upcharge part of the park, with these water-balls,
DSC01787.jpg
S&S Bungee Trampoline,
DSC01790.jpg
and Sling Shot (with Intamin seats, I might add).
DSC01789.jpg
Sadly, there's no Turbo Force like last year, but I'll manage.
DSC01792.jpg
This ride is incredibly simple. This big box of springs rises, and tightens the cables. An electromagnet holds the vehicle to the ground.
DSC01793.jpg
When the electromagnet is turned off by the operator...
DSC01795.jpg
... You get slung 250ft into the air!
DSC01796.jpg
When you return to the ground, you might be a little more awake than you were before.
DSC01800.jpg
They honked the horn a few times... but they also forgot a few times. Horn < no horn.
DSC01801.jpg
This ride has a very patriotic theme to it.
DSC01802.jpg
New inspection decal! Nerds rejoice!
DSC01803.jpg
The DVD sucks, as it is split into segments. I suck at editing, so I can't really combine them to make the DVD appear well on the computer. So this is the closest to an 'onride shot' you'll get.

I'll post more later. Thanks for reading! =)

Part 4
DSC01804.jpg
I get the DVD, which is $20. Ripoff, but I still enjoy getting them.
DSC01805.jpg
After that, we head for this hypnotist. Amazingly, I am picked to be hypnotized!
DSC01810.jpg
I didn't get fully hypnotized, but I can tell that it really is possible! I lost my concentration at the last second while we were being hypnotized, so I didn't get the full effect. But it was still very interesting, and for skeptics I think I can say that it really can work!
DSC01811.jpg
Like last year, I got a Bull Chip...
DSC01814.jpg
...and some milk.
DSC01815.jpg
But I also stop and get some Yakisoba noodles.
DSC01817.jpg
I personally thought it had too much vegetables in it, but if you combine it with teriyaki chicken, this yakisoba is pretty good!
DSC01818.jpg
The everything-on-a-stick stall. I can't believe I didn't stop here!
DSC01819.jpg
Mom got some corn-on-the-cob, her favorite.
DSC01820.jpg
Plumpkins!
DSC01821.jpg
Mom loves these!
DSC01823.jpg
This turkey does NOT look happy!
DSC01836.jpg
Need some coffee? Sasquatch will help you get the energy you need!
DSC01837.jpg
I'll end with this random rock band; one of many likely to be at the fair.

Thanks for reading! =)

I went to the Puyallup fair last week also. Went during the $2 ride day which made it a bit cheaper than normal. I wanted to ride the coasters, specifically Kersplash which I had never ridden which is up for sale right now, so although the dirty water in it put me off before I was going to ride it this time. We rode the wood coaster 3 times and all were good. I didnt get last seat on first two rides and was starting to worry the re-build took away a little airtime, but when I rode the last seat on my 3rd ride it clearly is still all there, what a great little coaster, to bad it was open a bit more than twice a year! Then we rode the Wildcat, a fun coaster that has a fairly run down appearence now. Then we went to Kersplash, we watched a few riders and could see you would get a bit wet but not to bad, the water in this thing always looks like a sewer so I have avoided this one for years. Anyway, I have to say I was surprised how fun a ride it is, nice swooping drops, Miler makes some decent coasters, I rode the little kiddie coaster made by Miler at Oaks Parks in Portland made by Miler and would say that may be the best kiddie coaster I have ridden.

We wanted to ride the Mouse but as previously stated, they dont let you ride alone, and last time my son and I rode together it was cramped as hell. I am 6' and hes 6'5" so we just cant fit in it. I dont get why single riders cant go on this. We rode a few flat rides, got some fried clams and then took off. This fair/park has more rides and better coasters than the nearby 6 Flags Wild Waves if you ask me.
