paintballer
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that the ride will have onboard audio, fog, and fire effects. DON'T EVEN JOKE that would be awesome. A boy can dream...
DBru
I have a feeling that the pyro effects could backfire, in this case...
chrguy606
I hope not, at least with the onboard audio. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that the ride will have onboard audio, fog, and fire effects.
jps294
Six Flags will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in style. One of the biggest additions will be the rehabilitation of the Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas. The $10 million project will include what sounds like a full rebuild of the ride's track, brand new trains by Gerstlauer, magnetic brakes, more airtime, and one of the steepest "banks" of any wooden coaster. The 'new' ride will have it's work done by Rocky Mountain Amusements, a company that helped build El Toro and has worked on several industry projects. The new Texas Giant will also be a more immersive experience, as riders will now find theming as part of the ride, especially in the queue area. A farewell party for the current ride will be held at the park the weekend of October 30th. Read More

Jerrykoala2112
I really think this re tracking will be worth it. The ride wasn't TOO bad when I rode it last year. But they will have some of the steepest banks so it might be really good. Considering people who help build El Toro is helping re-track the ride. themeparkman25
^If GCI was doing the retracking and they were getting Millennium Flyers I would be a little more excited. GCI must have been steep or something because they were doing a huge park trip selling their products to parks with wood coasters offering to throw some MF's on the tracks, of course after they retrack it themselves. Jerrykoala2112
Well. I fear that some GCI's will get really rough even with Millenium Flyer trains. The only smooth GCI I rode was Lightning Racers. Evel Kneivel, Gwazi, Wildcat, and Renegade were very shaky and pretty unpleasent. Evel wasn't that bad, but if GCI is fixing a Dinn coaster, it might not be good at the end. As it is really hard to fix one up. I'm lost. Is this SFOT's 50th gift? That is terrible! Especially for being the park that started all parks!
atem122
^Gwazi and Wildcat have/had PTCs, PTCs make coasters suck! IDK about Evel and Renegade though. I think everyone should send in their underwear to SFI with the words "Give TG Timberliners" on them. That'd make a statement.
DBru
I'm hoping it will run with the new style of G-trains found on Mammut at Tripsdrill. Here is a good picture of one: http://rcdb.com/4065.htm

Airtime&Gravity
G-trains?...ouch Although, how are they on Legend or Falken? I know they are bad on Boss, from experience, but I haven't heard much about them on those two coasters. The plans for the coaster sound great though, and hopefully Texas Giant becomes the coaster it was back when it opened. I'm not sure how the fog and fire effects will be worked in, but I'm interested to see what Six Flags comes up with.

I have never had a rough ride on EK, nor on Prowler, nor on KR. Could MF's run on such a big coaster like Texas Giant? When GCI retracked Boulder Dash, MF's were not put on, correct? DBru
So are they adding the first over-banked turn on a woodie? I'm not sure what else they could mean by "steepest banking"...
Jerrykoala2112
Didn't GCI say that they won't my MF trains on coasters not made by them? Thats why they would change the PTC trains on their coasters. Because Thunder Road at Carowinds got some rehab and MF wasn't put on it yet...? CoasterCard
^ Not the case at all. They will do whatever the park wants more or less... It's just costly to incorporate all of the needed equipment to run a completely different set of trains. (Brakes, sensors, q-gate, airlines, etc.) The thing I worry about is that Six Flags is trying to cut costs which in turn is going to effect quality. What might have needed to be done might not get done because one company says that they can do it cheaper. They better not take any shortcuts on this one.... themeparkman25
According to GCI's website under their "great trains" tab, GCI will put Millennium Flyers on any wooden coaster so long as the track and structure are in good condition and the forces would be alright with everything. They also said that they would help improve the condition of coasters that are seeking new trains. Check out their website.
texcoaster
Word at last weekend's Lone Star Coasterthon was that the track system is going to be completely new. Not just the track, but the TYPE of track. So even though I'm not at all happy with the G-train info, at least they will probably be some kind of new design to go with the new style of track. Maybe this time, they'll get it right.
robbalvey
I'm hoping it will run with the new style of G-trains found on Mammut at Tripsdrill. Here is a good picture of one: http://rcdb.com/4065.htm I'm going to make two assumptions here - #1 - The Gerstlauer trains WILL be similar to this. #2 - The track system will be more like what you see on Mammut or El Toro than a "traditional" wood coaster. That being said - Elissa is right. Those Gerstlauer trains did shuffle like crazy on Mammut...BUT the ride was very smooth. Now that ride also didn't have many forces and wasn't doing anything aggressive either. I'm firmly putting this one in the "wait and see category." On a side rant, can we all just PLEASE learn how to spell out "Gerstlauer" instead of writing "G-Trains." Everytime I see "G-Trains" that makes me think of "G-String" and then that sends me off on a tangent thinking about porn and raunchy strip joints. Now granted, thinking about porn is almost ALWAYS better than thinking about roller coasters, but still, I gotta be able to focus here, so please, I beg of you all. Repeat after me.... "Gerstlauer" "Gerstlauer" "Gerstlauer" G - E - R- S - T - L - A - U - E - R Learn it. Love it. LIVE IT! Thank you. /end rant
