P. 276: Penguin Trek construction update!

Recommended Posts

Because SFMM will make back that money fast (or fast enough for the suits to approve the budget for them) as opposed to the parks. And to back seat mod, your going offtopic when there are already two threads you could have said all of that in.

^We don't need you as a back seat mod!

My post was well within the conversation. You can go back to discussing bad trips again!

And to reply to that comment, wasn't there talk about SFMM not turning enough profit? I am not so sure that a new coaster really produces that significant of a profit boost as you indicate. I love the park like you do, but I just don't understand how parks like SFT will only get a Texas Giant rehab while MM gets two new coasters in 2 years?

Anyway, now I'm getting too deep into his comments. Sorry to everyone

I think Manta is looking fantastic and I am now actually getting excited to see this thing with some riders!

^ SFMM is probably getting two new major coasters for probably the same reason SFGAdv got two huge new coasters back to back a few years back.

And SF has been investing into a lot of smaller parks that normally didn't recieve much a few years ago (SFSTl and TGE).

Now back to Manta, the ride looks amazing! If this succeeds, maybe my home park will be getting a fourth B&M sometime soon.

Well that's not much of an answer.

SFMM is getting a new coaster because Six Flags has no idea what they're doing, and a new coaster is their answer to everything.

I do like the paint job on Manta's zero-car, though.

I'm actually a little disappointed with the graphic on the zero car. It's very...busy. I liked the simplicity of the trains' design before the graphic was put on. They were very graceful navigating the track. This graphic doesn't really match that style. Oh well, maybe it'll grow on me.

I really just want to say that I think that B&M coasters are the most graceful coasters out there. And Manta is the perfect example of how every coaster should be "themed." There really isn't all that much theming, just a lot of really well done landscaping. For a full size coaster like this, it looks amazing. It really makes the coaster look at home in the park rather than being plopped down in the middle of a cleared field like most coasters are these days.

I think the trains looked awesome without the graphic. But whats done is done. But maybe when the ride is done it will fit in with some part of the theming in the queue or the station. The zero car makes the train look super long though. But I like it; especially when the train is flying through the course. B&M's are definitely elegant rides.

Today I made my way back to Seaworld to see if I could catch Manta during its test runs. Sadly enough, the ride wasn't running during my visit, but I was able to grab some new photos along a new area that just opened up, so I've got alot to show!

Just as a reference, this new path I am mentioning was previously covered in construction work (it is very close to the bottom of the pretzel loop); in fact, the last time I was so close to it was during the original Manta construction tour.

Goodbye to Manta for now... I have a good feeling I'll be seeing you soon!

I love big, open pathways under big, tightly woven coasters!

This is a new view...

Could these be for protective nets to be held over the paths?

Some odd new cables have been added to the supports of the ride's initial drop.

See what I mean?

There is plenty more rockwork around Manta's station.

Work is ongoing closer to the station and "action portion" of the ride.

The splashdown is still being worked on.

IMGP0512.thumb.JPG.642e3815558c95f42ab91f1815a592f6.JPG

Notice the "brickwork" used to help show a varying age in the area...

Rockwork and general landscape construction continues as Manta's main area is is prepared.

This ride is looking more and more gorgeous as time goes on. And it looks like its going to be an awesome experience.

On a side note. Does anyone know what the purpose of the red sensor thing is on the front of the trains? I noticed that they installed them on Tatsu around .. i want to say like the later part of 08. But I haven't been able to figure out their function. I know there is a receiver on the catwalk on the turn to the lift. Just curious as to its purpose.

Awesome video of Manta. This video provides and up close look on a private tour that was given. The two guys in the video were kind of entertaining and funny too in a corny way. Video includes shots of inside the aquarium (views not seen before), the queue line, from the construction site, on the final brake run, inside the train storage building (up close look at the trains), and many more.

^ My personal opinion, I don't think there will be water down there. I know in the video they said it but in the same video, they said there would be "Mantas" in the tank... we all know that isn't true.

Update on the park, when entering the park and heading towards the construction site, the construction wall on the left (next to the strollers rental) have been taken down and a newly built area for the flamingos is now there. No flamingos yet though, just a pool and some grass/sand area. The fence that is put up and the basic design of the railing is the same that would be put on the attraction side. Basically a little preview of the type of themeing we might see (fences and railings wise).

It's basically a light curtain that ensures that the train will not advance from station to lift in the event the beam is broken from the time the train goes from "load" position to "flight" position. Say if an operator were to step in front of the train as the chasis was retracting, the train would stop and an error message would have to be reset from the control panel.

The new graphic on the zero-car is... interesting. And quite busy. Is it just me or does the graphic look very 'electric'? Every time I look at it, I can't help but see lightning bolts shooting out of the manta's fins.

Honestly, I think it would look a lot better either with no graphic at all, or if the same graphic was applied to all of the little mantas.
