Photo TR: Fahrenheit Opening Day

Recommended Posts

GREAT TR, Photos, and Dialogue - THANK YOU.

Living in Boston it is going to be a month or two before I get to Hershey, but I will get there this summer (for sure).

Does ANYONE have a video or POV?

I've seen the one testing video, but have yet to see an real POV or off ride video with real people on the ride. If you have a video (post it on youtube) and PLEASE share the link - lol

I agree! Please someone put up a POV of this ride! I've been looking everywhere for one and so far nobody has been brave/stupid enough to bring their camera on the ride with them. But if you put one up, or see one, can you please post the link for the rest of us?

EDIT: Scratch that, I finally found one on Youtube.

it is for all those of us not lucky enough to experience it yet

I still don't fully understand the comparisons to Maverick, other than restraints, drop, and trains. This baby seems much more vertical, much more loopy, and much more compact. But whatever.

This thing looks awesome, simply put. I'm trying to find a way to work HP into my Princeton/SFGAdv trip in September, and this thing is making me all that more desperate to get there. Fantastic photos and captions!

Trims.

There were trims. Right after the cobra roll.

Has anyone noticed them? Maybe they're just there for trains moving at a higher rate of speed but not to slow down every single one...?

I didn't notice them at all. If they were even used during my ride (maybe they weren't), they at least weren't abused.

Thank you for the video link Topthrillmaverick - perfect.

I've seen more than a few posts saying the ride was smooth, yet the video surprised me. I'm not sure if it was the angle of the video or camera placement, but the ride seemed to go faster than I thought it would, and wasn't as smooth as I expected.

Can anyone enlighten me?

It looks like a great ride with the lift hill and drop, while I do see the resemblance to Maverick. Fast, intense, with quick transitions.

^ Ride Raging Bull. Then you'll know why.

It's unfortunate that we couldn't ride without the trims, because I liked it even with the trims on. I can only imagine how kickass it would be without them... and I totally understand everyone's frustration with them.

BLASPHEMY

Maverick pushes the absolute limits of intensity. I wish more rides did what Mavvy does.

Maverick pushed the limits of my head towards getting a concussion. It was rough as hell and the seating was quite uncomfortable. If it was a bit smoother and less jerky, maybe I would've enjoyed it, but we tried it three times and I was just left thinking, "Well, that wasn't very good."

Those aren't trims. They're just spaces for trims. They can put brakes there, but currently there aren't any.

/\ Correct

If you look at that section of track from the ground, theres nothing there, just the metal bar on the track where they would go

It's easily tied with Phantoms revenge as my favorite non-launch steel coaster

Lovely, lovely photos! I also really enjoyed the report (yes I read it all lol). Fahrenheit looks really fun! I think Fahrenheits trains looked a bit...plain to me. You would have thought they would have added fire or something to the cars but...It's still a must ride!

I thought Maverick was just awesome, no head banging at all (but maybe that's because I found myself leaning forward throughout the whole ride...)

Nata, fantastic write-up and photo TR. Really well-done! If I had the capital right now to hire a staff writer for the magazine, I would be sending you a letter yesterday. Anyway, this is one park and coaster I think that must be visited this year rather than next. Now, to figure out how to bribe my actual place of employment....how does one bribe a casino?

Joining the Mob might be a good first step. They're quite, uh, "friendly" with the casinos, right? At the very least, they seem to have an uncanny knack for Getting What They Want.

Thanks for your comments, though. Now I'm blushing like crazy and saying things like, "Aww, shucks..." and that's just something I don't do. Ever.

Anyway, here are some of my photos from the rest of the park. I don't have much of a formal Trip Report for this part, but I can sum it up for you in three words: It was busy.

It wasn't horrible. Lightning Racer was only about a 15 minute wait, but we rode that pretty early in the day. Everything else was definitely holding steady around the 45-minute- to an hour- wait mark. Still, friendly staff, decent operations, and beautiful landscaping. For a holiday weekend, there really wasn't much to complain about.

Ahh, and so ends another wonderful trip to Hersheypark. Thanks Nantimi for getting me up there this year!

And let's take one last look at F-heit (I really got tired of typing the whole thing out after awhile, though I guess typing out this explanation didn't exactly save me any time or effort).

Still, I got a few decent shots.

And Lightning Racer, one of my favorite coasters, but one of the hardest to get good photos of. Yeah, I just ended a sentence with a preposition. What are you gonna do about it?

The obligatory mine train coaster

So much better since they got the Millennium Flyers.

Let's go back to the coasters, though.

1224596576_Hershey165.jpg.1acd2793094bc01d1544a6f07b54ed7b.jpg

But here's a wipe-out, at least. It's no buttock, but it was the best I could do.

1986259448_Hershey178.jpg.5b0aac7440327b1664822674dadb5b83.jpg

This was fun just to watch, especially since I got to see a handful of fannies. Including this guy's. (word of advice boys: consider wearing suspenders with your trunks.) I didn't get a picture though, but I assure you, I'm more upset by this fact than you are.

2017979858_Hershey251.jpg.56199e1a49a49515c4825b9fc8466252.jpg

If I had a change of clothes, I'd have gone in there and toughed it out. Maybe.

586044452_Hershey214.jpg.8046b051651b8b5733ee178f845cd2cd.jpg

I gotta admit, this looked fun though.

Besides, it's not like these rides just give you a light misting and pat on the back. It's more like a bath in an igloo and a punch in the face.

One credit I still don't have. I made it through the queue that day, though. But when I was hit with about 5 droplets of water from a passing car while waiting in line, I felt the beginning stages of hypothermia setting in, and I decided to use the good sense God gave me and get out of line.

Boat full o' crazies. It was only about 65 degrees that day, with a constant breeze. Not that that's cold, exactly, but it was only 40 degrees the night before - that water had to be freezing.

1440071055_Hershey360.jpg.4695cfc0f6d1e83431be872f53e7be5b.jpg

I got a headache just taking a picture of this thing.

The Claw. And as I'm typing this, I just realized that I never took any pictures of the new flat this year (Howler). Sorry about that, folks.

Soopahdoopahloopah. Must have been a lot of New Yorkers visiting that day, because that's how everyone was pronouncing it.

Now, I didn't care for the colors in any of my Great Bear shots, so I played around with them a bit...

A slew of Storm Runner photos await you.

999592141_Hershey022.jpg.596a00fb6c1486e04bff9e7eda40b484.jpg

But on to the park. There I am in the front row, mid-launch. And I swear that is not a cloud of B.O. around my armpit. What an unfortunate placement for a lens flare.

But look at me - only one brave enough to do the arms up thing.

And when I found this guy sitting in the store, I decided to put him in the traditional roller coaster riding position as an homage to my HP trip.

On the way to PA, we stopped at IKEA outside of D.C. I'd never been before, and let me just say my MIND WAS BLOWN. Such an awesome place. Plus, since I'm a 1/4 Svenska Flicka, I found myself feeling oddly at home around all the Yagenplutz and Fjärding.

(P.S. Anyone see me in the picture?)

Great photos Nat. I find your captions amusing and suprisingly funny for some reason. Maybe I've been riding the demonic horse mascot's ride too much but I did chuckle a bit looking through the photos

Regardless I'm so excited to go to Hershey this summer. Besides being my first time there when the Boardwalk is acutally open (all the other times it was either snowing, which was awesome on Storm Runner, or about 45 degrees. Neither was very Boardwalk friendly weather), it will be when I can finally get on Fahrenheit! I'm still envious of you getting on it the opening weekend but hey, what can I do about it?

I so want IKEA right now. Great photogs and captions as before, Nata. Is it me or does the water section of the park seem a little LSD-influenced in its design and coloring? Almost had a flashback looking at it; going back to the photo to get proper flashback...

Hershey looks like a great little park. Feel like a complete dork for not even knowing about it until last year!

Cheers!
