Ok, so this TR is the "day that I got out of Portugal" report! And to answer Nick's question, the place really was fine. The resort was AMAZING, and the work stuff went really well. It's just that golfing resorts really aren't my thing. They are nice and all, but you see that I made it fun in my own way!

Although the one thing I didn't post about was that the hotel had FREE PORN!!!! Ok, maybe it was soft porn, but STILL! The weird thing was it looked like it was some feed out of Germany (Soren, do you know anything about this?) and it would play a clip of a girl, and there were two boxes on the left where people would call and vote for the next clip they wanted to see. And in between clips there were ads for the most bizarre phone sex numbers you've ever seen! Hot chicks, old chicks, fat chicks, dudes, cats, bats, pigs, lepars, etc!!!! There's a pic of this down below!

So I got on my flight to London, and apparently there was bad overcast weather in London (like this is different from any other day HOW???) and we were delayed an hour.

I finally got into London and it took FOREVER to get to the rental car place and then I finally got to Chessington about 2-3 hours later than I thought I actually would.

Ok, so I'll post the Chessington TR and pics in a moment, but for now, this is the "Leaving Portugal and onto London pics!"
around52.jpg
So here is another photos of the resort in Lisbon. We ended up showing off the game in this historic "monastary" turned part church, part convention center.
around53.jpg
Dinner that night was really posh, and here was dessert. I almost didn't want to eat it!
around54.jpg
And here it is! The FREE PORN CHANNEL! Looks to be from Germany and you vote on what girl you want to see next (See the TR above for more details)
around55.jpg
This Lisbon airport wasn't very impressive. Here you can see the "Smoking Area" which is just right in the terminal. All the smoke just came right over to us, so really, what was the point?
around55a.jpg
But the Lisbon airport made up for that by having a cow in the duty free shop. Unfortunatley, it wasn't for sale. Otherwise that would have been Elissa's gift. =(
around56.jpg
So I finally made it to London Heathrow airport, a little later than expected. I do however do not think that the fastest way to London is via the baggage conveyer. Anyone have an idea?
around57.jpg
Any country that has Double Decker's in vending machines is ok by me!!! =)
around58.jpg
Here is my rental car! I love driving on the wrong side of the car!
around59.jpg
And here I am driving on the wrong side of the rode while having to shift gears with the wrong hand!!!! Driving in England is so much fun!!!!
around60.jpg
Here you go sweetie, a British McDonald's for you!
around61.jpg
Now I'm on my way to Chessington! (We see you Thorpe Park....but I'm not visiting you until tomorrow!)

Idiot.

You should make a short film about this trip "Cows, Candy and German Porn". In the picture where you are entering Chessington, are you on a road that would be considered an Interstate here in the US or is it just a normal road?
I don't post here enough to warrant a signature.

Hey Robb,
great update! I really like your pics. The dessert looks awesome. The violet cow is the trademark of a German chocolate company (Milka).
It is really funny in England to drive on the (wrong) side! Is your car a "Opel Corsa"?

okay, onto this picture:

I am shocked! Normally this is a German sports TV channel! Did you watched the channel in the night, to see that porn? However, I have never seen that! I promise!

What did that McDonald's sign have on it? It looked like a changable display for gas prices or something. Or do the prices of their burgers change depending on the time of day? :P

When I arrived at Chessington I thought OMFG---WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!!! Now, I have been to Chessington about 10 times since 1995 or '96 and I have never....EVER seen the parking lot this PACKED!!!! I mean, I ended up having to park in an 'overflow' area that I think technically is NOT part of the parking lot!

Oddly enough, the queues weren't that long. I think the longest line we waited in was our first ride on Dueling Dragons Winja's Ninja's Fury, or maybe Professor Burps.

Anyway, I went in the park, grabbed a quick food stop at McDonald's, then saw a really strange man holding up a sign with my name on it....hmmm......

Thankfully, Tim wasn't too bizarre! We had a really good time hanging out and I'm glad he was there because otherwise the day probably would have been a bit boring on my own.

So we went over to Dragons's Spinning Fury and I have to say I thought it was GREAT! That first drop and the vertical turn aroung thingy was insane! And aside from all the great theming and the 'track tricks' on Winja's, I think this ride has a much more interesting and crazy layout. I mean, it spun a LOT!!!!

Next up was Vampire with the Rob Vaccaro trains (Vekoma/Arrow = Vaccaro! I hope you're proud Rob!) It's a fun ride, certainly not the best of the Arrow suspended, but fun. The new trains really take something away, though, IMO. The bat themed ones were cool and it 'completed' the station, and these trains do ride a bit rougher. Still, it's loads better than most SLC's!

Anyway, we continued the rounds with Professor Burb's Bubble Works, a 'soda factory, burping and farting' themed dark ride. It appears to be getting a total overhaul next year. I wonder where is the "save the burping and farting dark ride" campaign, hmmm? But I got some good footage to capture it forever for you dark ride fanatics!

Of couse, the most bizarre thing of the day was when we were standing in the queue for Burps and we hear over the station's PA sytem "Everyone give a big welcome to Robb Alvey who is making a nice DVD today!!!" WTF???? How did they even notice us and know who we were!

And then those guys in the control booth proceeded to dance for us! Awesome work guys! You rock (now introduce yourselves to us all!)

We continued to make the rounds, did the log flume, mine train, wild mouse, and Spinball Dragons a couple more times.

Overall a REALLY enjoyable day at the park. I wish this park had more to do and it seems like they keep taking things away from the park, and also Ramases Revenge and Tomb Blasters were closed (bummer) but still. If it's not crowded, it's a 2-3 hour park at best.

Anyway, onto some photos and even a little video clip and then I'll post my pics from Brighton, which ended my night!
around62.jpg
Yay! I made it to Chessington!!
around63.jpg
OMG! Look at the parking lot!!! And look how far away I am from the entrance!
around64.jpg
Tim was there...he had a sign...he was cool. I hope you have fun today Tim!
around65.jpg
It was time for me to get a credit on Spinball Winjas Fury!
around66.jpg
This really kicked some A$$, especially for it's size!
around67.jpg
Yes, this vertical turnaround thingy is as messed up as it looks!
around68.jpg
Dammit!!! That's so NOT FAIR! I want access to private parts too!!!
around70.jpg
There are the Rob Vaccaro trains on the Vampire.
around71.jpg
A fun ride, not amazing, but fun. I really think that Spinball Ninja's is now the best ride at this park.
around72.jpg
Damn, the british are pretty up front about the ride warnings!!!
around73.jpg
Hey! Why isn't Sir Squirt-A-Lot playing with us?
around74.jpg
Oh...that's why....(yes, it is named "Sir Squirt-A-Lot!" :o
around75.jpg
The closest McDonalds around here is in Transylvania??? I swear I just saw one in London!
around77.jpg
Vampire has a nice themed queue...uh....yeah...that's the caption. So there you have it!
around78.jpg
So this is the last year for Professor Burp's dark ride. That's too bad, this ride had everything....
around79.jpg
It had suspended cows....
around80.jpg
...it had the "beaufart scale"...
around81.jpg
...it had a coaster credit (well, at least for Jeff Johnson)...
around82.jpg
...it had dancing water madness...
around83.jpg
...it had Tim ducking for cover from the dancing water madness...
around83a.jpg
...and it had the most insane crew of any dark ride ever!!!! (download the clip below to see what I mean!) Thanks to Tim and the Burps guys for making today GREAT!!!!

This is officially THE GREATEST THING EVER!!! I only wish you had hours and hours of video of this, as I can only imagine the comedy potential. We need this channel on Comcast now!

This new set of photos was extra entertaining. And that vertical turn or whatever the hell that is on that mouse looks INSANE! That looks like one messed up ride. And I'm sad to hear about the removal of the burping dark ride, being such a dark ride fan and all... :P

Ok, so after Chessington I decided to kill a little time by going to Brighton Pier. The last time I was in Brighton all the rides closed early due to it being so dead. =(

But this time I actually got both credits in. Woo-hoo!!!

On the way to Brighton I passed my favorite town in all of England...."Dorking" Yes, it's called "Dorking."

ok, I say it's my favorite town, yet I've never been there! I just love the name of it! I always pictured "dorking" to be something that sorority girls did for fun. "Hey, Betty, what are we doing tonight?" "I dunno, you want to go dorking?"

Like they are hot chicks that pick up on the biggest losers they can find only to tell them they've been "dorked" right before they think they are going to get sex. And up until that point they've taken embarassing photos of them doing bizarre things like trying to mate with a pig and a duck or something screwed up like that.

ANYWAY......

I got to Brighton around 8:30 and it was still pretty busy. They have two coasters there, a Spinning Mouse (yay) and a looping Pinfari (oh, double yay!)

Actually, going back to what Kip said about the Pinfari's a little while back, he's kind of right. If it wasn't for the really uncomfortable trains, with the hard plastic seats and the restraints that just don't seem to fit right, this would be a really kick A$$ little coaster. It had a good pop of airtime (I sat in the back), the loop was pretty intense, and so was the turn after it.

The Mouse was pretty standard stuff, but OMFG did it spin...a LOT...to the point where it almost made ME sick!!!! This was NOT an "Elissa Friendly" mouse!!!!

After the sun had set, I headed out (yes the sun sets pretty damn late here!) And my drive back was pretty quick and I got to the hotel around 10ish.

Brighton is an 'ok' place for a credit run. It's a like a smaller version of Blackpool that's just nowhere near as nice. I mean, it's the "Reverchon Wild Mouse and Pinfari Looper" version of Blackpool if that means anything!

I made sure to have a 99, which IMO is a staple for any visit to a British seaside park, and then I was on my way!

Tomorrow is Thorpe, but here are the Brighton photos!
around84.jpg
"Dorking"
(see above for explanation!)
around85.jpg
Here is Brighton Pier. It reminds me a lot of Blackpool's "South Pier"
around86.jpg
"Who's on Brighton Pier?" Hmm...I wonder who it could be?
around87.jpg
OH MY GOD It's an ACE CONVENTION!!!!!!
around88.jpg
The Pinfari Looper didn't hurt that much.
around89.jpg
As you can see in this purposely blurry photo for artistic impression that the coaster is right on the water!
around90.jpg
And yes, they had a Crazy Mouse....like almost every other park in England!
around91.jpg
At least this one kind of had a sense of humor!
around92.jpg
A seaside park wouldn't be complete without a Waltzer.
around93.jpg
Elissa would have loved the trampolines.
around94.jpg
The mouse was was also right next to the water.
around95.jpg
Was this guy part of the ACE Convention????
around96.jpg
Well, someone did mention in this thread that Brighton was the gay capitol of England! =)
around97.jpg
Ahh, I haven't had a 99 in years!!!
around98.jpg
Forget about the credits, it's all about ice cream with a Flake! So simple, yet so awesome!
around99.jpg
The sun was setting on Brighton so it was time to head back to the hotel. Tomorrow is Thorpe Park!!!
