Day Seven: Tivoli and Bakken

Today started out with another ferry. A much quicker one this time, about a 20 minute ride crossing from Sweden to Denmark. We said goodbye to the country that breeds porn stars and hello to the one that breeds super models! Not a bad trade off if you ask me.

Tivoli Gardens was not far from the port so it was a quick drive and we were at the park. Tivoli is a VERY different park from anywhere else on the trip so far, in fact, it's probably different from just about anywhere else we've been.

It's kind of hard to describe. It's VERY traditional, but also very beautiful. It's part cultural experience, part amusement park. It's probably what you'd get if you combined the tradition of Blackpool, the landscaping of Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and the gardens of Bonfante. And yet you still wouldn't get Tivoli.

It's just someplace you have to experience.

The coasters were good fun. Daemonen was better than we expected it to be. It's got to be the shortest B&M ever built. But still it's a lot of fun. It's not as forceless as some other recent offerings like Silver Bullet or Talon, but it's not very forcefull either. But a great ride anyway.

Tivoli also boasts a scenic railway which had some decent pops of airtime! What a great ride! Something so old that can produce so much fun!

We took in the park, got some fun photos and hung out with some of the members of http://www.themepark.dk Thanks guys for showing us around!

In the middle of the day we took a quick trip over to Bakken, about 20 minutes away.

This was another interesting park. The only way to describe the park is that it's sort of like Wildwood, but without the water.

Most of the amusement attractions are owned by different people, although if you buy the wristband, it gets you into all of them.

Another scenic railway here, and this one was crazy! Probably the best of the scenic railway or side friction woodies I've done. Some insane airtime in both the front and the back, but beware, this one is kind of brutal also!

Bakken also had an "Outdoor Skull Mountain" which was REALLY cool! Damn fast Intamin rides!

Lots of other flats and random coasters like a Fireball with the longest most insane program ever. A Flitzer coaster, car race rides, and lots of candy and other 'seaside' type stalls and attractions, but no water! There wasn't even water in the dunk tank!

Anyway, two really 'different' parks today, and two parks that look NOTHING like anything you'll see in the US.

On to some photos!!!

Awww...this reminded us of the Quaker!

bakken8.jpg.7e72e3fa72ddfc512ba5553dc1129956.jpg

OMG, we're in the funhouse....Don't fall Dave!!!

bakken7.jpg.f2aa8950123e112fbb4d21581afdff8f.jpg

The Flitzer really reminded us of something out of Wildwood.

bakken6.jpg.338fbfabcf5aa7b8ba4a59e09e543545.jpg

This Frisbee had one of the longest craziest programs ever!

"An outdoor Skull Mountain! Yay!"

This coaster looks familiar...

bakken3.jpg.878c460896423003845702482be15f94.jpg

This one had some really crazy airtime! How does it stay on the track?!?

bakken2.jpg.f17a7a7237879977147d94ed450065ac.jpg

With another scenic railway.

Now some photos of Bakken...another traditional park.

The "Viking Buffet" now this has ACE written all over it!!! =)

Airtime on a side friction woodie. Scary, but cool! =)

tivoli13.jpg.7cc0de66e9c1f74db0ea4c899ceb0bc8.jpg

The brakeman makes sure the train keeps the correct speed. Otherwise, well....people would get a MUCH wilder ride!

tivoli12.jpg.9dcbc12d47167a6973f793cedc268680.jpg

Enough culture! Back to the coasters! Tivoli's Scenic Railway is one of the oldest coaters in Europe.

tivoli11.jpg.bb93bff86117a1d519a092b59fc264d3.jpg

This is about as much culture as I can handle at a theme park!

tivoli9.jpg.372a12941703bc7068f64bb06ac53eb2.jpg

And you can even get some of the most bizarre photos ever!

tivoli8.thumb.jpg.5231bcaa8fb3b51ae1c5e5718e3c90b1.jpg

...to narrow streets filled with unique shops and attractions.

tivoli7.thumb.jpg.c3e7973e91028f101bb87aedb55c2c89.jpg

Tivoli is a very different kind of park from anything you'll see in the US. Parts of it are beautiful gardens with elaborate landscaping...

Here is some vertical loop footage for Derek!

tivoli5.jpg.6e89b0b1871a77e483ae44b2d6cf8c70.jpg

This is probably the shortest B&M, but it's really good!

tivoli4.jpg.b39886ca8c985f9c79addbd3434ff175.jpg

Here is Daemonen, Tivoli's B&M Floorless.

tivoli10.jpg.982d0a1a29ff20ff2ad65dd1290bd9c6.jpg

Here we are at Tivoli Gardens. A very interesting park. It's like part cultural experience, part theme park.

tivoli3.jpg.cad7845654fa046c0c9d42e0c7781ec6.jpg

This is ONLY funny to idiot Americans!

tivoli2.jpg.24e059ac08bfbc8ec0b967740abe81c1.jpg

On the ferry, I get to show off some of my talents!

^ Yeah we missed it, sorry. Not really that much into walkthroughs. WE do HHN at Universal and that's our year's quota of walkthroughts. We were there for the coasters!

That's very sad because Hotel Gasten just kicks ass ! It's damn beautiful and extremly scary too ! So please, make me a favour, when you'll be at Movie Studios, don't miss the walk through this time !

Ahhh, it's ever so nice to see familiar territory in your trip reports, too bad you couldn't stay for the pretty Tivoli lights, but that's gotta be some other time.

Yay, we had a blast, I know I did anyway. As always I managed to look unintentionally goofy on a group picture... And, speaking of pictures, if you think the Hula picture is disturbing, you should've seen the "photo shoot" part of it. Ahh, the humour.

Another awesome TR:

I have a few questions though.

What is Coca-Cola light? I'm assuming it's Diet Coke.

Second, about this picture:

Why is Dan biting Elissa's ass?

Did Mary's Ice Cream hit Dave's head?

Was that Sugar Free Ice Cream Dave was eating, or will we soon learn of the first casualty of this trip?

And this picture makes me miss you!!! Is that wrong

I'm glad you guys are having such an awesome time! I wish I could've been there with all of you Know that I am praying for you, as asked, on all of those Vekoma Boomerangs and SLC's! Have a great time on the rest of the trip!

That is correct, Gregg. All the "diet" products were called "light", in Europe! I have no idea, why???

Now to your pictures, Robb.

Great photo update, again! It looks like you have so much fun on your trip! However, tomorrow I will check it by myself!

Great TR, looks like another place that I have to add to my list of parks to visit.

And it looks like Gregg beat me to the important questions about those two pictures...and in reply to greggs question, I think that you might be right, it is not right to feel those feelings....help required

OK... first off, I have to tell you that I just spent something like an hour and a half reading and looking at all this because our computer died a week ago and I hadn't been on a computer for days (it nearly killed me) because I was taking some PTO days from work and so I no computer access whatsoever. Fortunately, despite the fact we can barely keep a roof over our heads, my hubby went and bought us this awesome new computer yesterday and now I can read the trip reports and FINALLY!!! watch the videos too (at least until they turn our electric or internet off for non-payment )

That said, it looks like the Alveys and gang are having a blast and I love the pictures. Tom-you're videos are great!!

As for the "Speedo" sign back on about page 1 or 2.... I work with a British lady and we were just talking about this the other day. Over in many Europeon countries you HAVE to wear a "speedo" type suit...swim trunks are not acceptable at public pools, water parks, etc. God help us if that becomes necessary on your trip....

Continue to have a safe and fun journey.... I'm looking forward to more great pictures (although I could have done without the one of Robb and the sausage...that will haunt me all day. Poor Elissa!)

I just want to say thanks for the great day at Liseberg also. Like Rob said, it was a shame we had to leave early really, I could have ridden Balder all day.

It's strange that IMO, Kanonen is the worst of the three coasters there, I'm not saying it's bad at all, but Balder is just plain awesome, and Lisebergbanan was such a surprise!

I'm attempting a video now, I'm not sure if I got enough footage though really, damn weather!

In the meantime, here's a little clip of Robb walking into one of the panes of glass in the mirror maze. Now, I'm not sure if he did it deliberately, but it looks pretty accidental to me. I'm sure he'll deny it and say it was deliberate anyway!
