Photo TR - Six Flags Mexico and La Feria Chapultepec Magico

Recommended Posts

So one of the perks from my job is that sometimes I do shows near parks. I was down in Mexico City doing a job, and after 4 days of about 16 hours each I deceided to move my flight back and credit whore myself around Mexico City in about 5 hours.

First up was Six Flags Mexico. I wasn't expecting much and was actually pleasently surprised. The park was clean and fun. Typical Six Flags operations though with only one train running on each coaster, so I was only able to get one ride on each. They also had a good variety of flats and a couple of dark rides as well. If I'm ever in Mexico City again, I'll be sure to make a visit.

La Feria Chapultepec Magico is a little park that sits at the top of a hill. I only had about 45 minutes in the park so it was just the coasters there, but if I ever return, I'll be sure to check out some of the other stuff they have there.

Enough rambling, let's get to the pictures!

Goodbye to La Feria and Mexico, I'm heading home to L.A.

63.jpg.975e7a7954431ae67298802b8cdb4165.jpg

Hmm, I wonder which park this used to be in?

62.jpg.0eddee0245793c19aff1d705d31b1e7f.jpg

Of course, now that I've taken all these pictures it may never open.

61.jpg.36ff81726039b33ec04b4c499ecb86b7.jpg

I was told they still had some testing to do and they hope to have it open by the new year. I didn't break it.

60.jpg.9b0007072018b8d6e5aec73049e51182.jpg

Let's get one thing straight, It's not done yet. I didn't break it.

59.jpg.8a5418568bd5e3fd9b41d5740f9a9cab.jpg

Hey look, it another Schwarzkopf! Joe, are you jelous yet?

58.jpg.f5fdf636a0c02cba82e5d4ee0a40125b.jpg

I actually go my driver to take a picture of me while I was riding.

57.jpg.2dcb29793b28b9f254640e38b3412863.jpg

Do I make you horny, Derek?

56.jpg.4b80d939e04b3850dd75428eb00454f1.jpg

Next up was Cascabel, a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop.

55.jpg.a23c768de6ee6b135620bea182339ba7.jpg

They held all the cars in the station and dispatched them all at once when they were loaded. Weird.

54.jpg.c70f80d0a5e43619228354688d00dd85.jpg

It was your typical spinning wild mouse. Elissa would have loved it.

53.jpg.3337c383452e109f4d0c3b8a261cdb98.jpg

Mandatory lift hill shot.

52.jpg.940a335f5823e550e6ff50783085e6be.jpg

Next up was Raton Loco.

51.jpg.af1e3235de14952db63a4f95dce50936.jpg

It was a fun ride, with a moment of ejector air that I wasn't expecting.

Home of Montana Rusa, my third mobius woodie.

About 35 minutes away is La Feia Chapultec Magico.

48.jpg.676bbe684aaee49ddaea56a9ab6f79fc.jpg

Good bye Six Flags Mexico, enjoy your 45th anniversary!

47.jpg.70bb7bcd40b0337ff26301eb38dba6c6.jpg

One of the few things that Vekoma actually does really well!

46.jpg.4c503cc9c9d971090861a50eaa9a6e99.jpg

Another Vekoma. This should be called Vekomaland south.

45.jpg.5d23c3095b24ae15eb46fddf94574518.jpg

Last credit in the park, Roller. They couldn't afford the skater part.

44.jpg.2d820f3fdcee2cd38c99e543d6995b24.jpg

Bummer, no Medusa for me. I'll just have to settle for torturing some goats. Bahh, ole!

43.jpg.75d975ad8651a3789efe0a1543e2f644.jpg

It's not my fault! It was closed when I got there! I only took one picture!

42.jpg.583829bf91aaad2549e311071adb42a5.jpg

Wait a minute, why is the door to the station closed? What's that sign?

41.jpg.9148254830a008f5feee769dc4bbc31e.jpg

Next up Medusa, I was really looking forward to this CCI woodie.

40.jpg.9cbff9884f3579c2020600e136c5050b.jpg

Their frontier land actually looks like a old western town.

39.jpg.ca2db38610360d9659df8f28c79094aa.jpg

I found Elvis! Sure he's got a bird on his head and he's in Polynesian land, but he's alive!

38.jpg.f942b1f6974a8624998b75c640c28c5f.jpg

The only vertical loop in the whole park. Hope you enjoy it Derek!

37.jpg.3027544e0031096744ad98959ec71c83.jpg

After the hang and bang, one ride on the boomerang was more than enough!

36.jpg.f0cd4acc3efdb3bb6a7d89c6342be836.jpg

Next up, Boomerang. Another Vekoma classic.

35.jpg.a611ec4ee9e22210afd2cfe2abfa1a81.jpg

Oh, who are we kidding, it's the crappiest ride on the planet!

33.jpg.2a571f92ecef41d18ba5dd180507b9d8.jpg

The screams are of joy and happiness not pain and tourture.

32.jpg.8bad7fab2b71b6c634e2bd17d214fbf1.jpg

As it rises majestically into the air?

31.jpg.f45400b3140eba593f7f0f3ab3a07340.jpg

Doesn't it look graceful?

30.jpg.c03cd6697f38df4680c496ef5083a2b5.jpg

What the...? No B&M in Mexico, here's it's a Vekoma SLC.

29.jpg.ef260957773191b673727cfb9d8a3afd.jpg

Next up was Batman The Ride. Time for some B&M goodness!

28.jpg.6df3f3e153c640ec0a701e31b0b30078.jpg

There were LOTS of school groups in the park, I think I was the oldest person in the park. Now I know how Jeff Johnson feels everyday.

27.jpg.ee8aa7506bf3d03f4fcca9591323e6c6.jpg

You Bet! Cha-ching!

26.jpg.864cc32791bbc2bc2b37fc5d5b144260.jpg

Hmm, a Zierer family coaster. Am I that much of a credit whore?

25.jpg.f9c56f429eee6de608181534c40dcb40.jpg

Because I had more coasters to get to.

24.jpg.baa87f51a51794eab2e49f55efb10565.jpg

There was a SpongeBob dark ride too, but I didn't have time to do it.

23.jpg.1bd7ff2d5393c898de3b642e38bef675.jpg

"Ay...Mis Hijos!" This apparently excites some people. (See wall for example.)

22.jpg.7e9598a9861080b3753041077867d807.jpg

La Llorona is some scary Mexican legend about a woman doomed to walk the earth lamenting the loss of her children.

21.jpg.6a463e0c5311598b6460e1081284260d.jpg

Cheesy dark ride? I'm so there!

20.jpg.d8d73bf9e2825e7e7198bb568c2d6b00.jpg

There was a Discovery Channel crew there who picked me to do a quick interview after my ride. There must be something about me that screams weird coaster enthusiast.

19.jpg.31206462d7baf561e074ae7d97ed564b.jpg

Bye Superman, until we meet again.

18.jpg.a06053e22d2b034573e9589204bdd726.jpg

Had I known what the rest of the day would be like, I would've just marathoned this.

17.jpg.ccb40b4655d14c9e44408e25c9cbe8f0.jpg

It's a great ride. Nice first drop and some good moments of floater air. Mmmm...floater air....

16.jpg.b6b2a997426f77485528777ce6d64e95.jpg

Superman is mostly on the side of the park so you can't get any really good pictures.

15.jpg.2ab3ed5eba57ea3dcb945bc1dd33cc2d.jpg

One train operation. Now THIS is more like the Six Flags I know.

14.jpg.860c330ba9f4731f476bf5617204ce76.jpg

Line jumpers beware: we have rabid chiuahahs that will eat you over the course of 100 years. (Loosely translated)

13.jpg.645afe5056947c6a60681f5e06a86b43.jpg

Is this really a Six Flags? In Mexico?

12.jpg.46098678962bce4596d7f19bac8c6ec5.jpg

Here are Lois, Jimmy, and Clark's offices.

11.jpg.f7a39a74bee381a83a46057c1a9aebf0.jpg

It's actually themed.

10.jpg.25d0fa2927b3a8481f172994eb12fbd2.jpg

This is the que?

09.jpg.0de8f02a6717d7f44e81c27f1d11e0d6.jpg

To the Morgan Hyper of course!

08a.jpg.e22b8aebde7817bdaedbd70533b5ca48.jpg

I've only got 2 1/2 hours here, where to first?

08.jpg.2cfca429aa3ecf9b52f1092113f22793.jpg

Hey, it looks pretty deserted, that's a good sign.

07.jpg.9e28261f632d37e566665fa778fd150c.jpg

This would be the only time that I saw live characters in the park.

06.jpg.e68af8b747b6ca41e1011ac119b5b482.jpg

I got there in time for the opening parade, dance thingy.

05.jpg.68f01af03f24135ef1b1aef91f716b18.jpg

Sweet, my US annual pass works south of the boarder!

04.jpg.df66c860ffa1ec23a25e2727a6149aa0.jpg

Ahh, Six Flags Mexico. It's gotta be better than SFMM, right?

03.jpg.d68ecbd686b89052d50e5af1f68f46bf.jpg

Enough with work! On to the parks!

02.jpg.58e8f9a5bfc0f5abb989dd441b861ccf.jpg

I can even make the Millennium Falcon on my phone go into hyperspace. I'm such a dork.

Here's the Set and Lighting Design I was working with.

Well done on breaking two rides John!

Both parks look reasonable, and they're only a fairly short flight from LA, so they maybe worth checking out in the future. Did you have a driver laid on as part of business, or was that just a precaution?

I always thought that Six Flags Mexico got a bum rap with its Vekoma Boomerang and Batman SLC as two of the the main rides (until Superman was finally built), but it actually looks better than Magic Mountain!

Thanks for the pictures. That place doesn't look too bad. I bet it's better than SFKK.

It's a shame Medusa was closed. The pics of it look rather nice, especially with the mountains on the horizon. It looks almost like a GCII, as it has a bit of a twister thing going on with it. I bet it tracks like hell though. Six Flags woodie + Gerstlauer trains + Mexican maintenance dept. = doesn't sound good to me.

Superman el Último Escape was intended to be a 2002 attraction. Construction started and then halted due to a dispute between Six Flags and the Mexican government. It took about two years to resolve these issues and construction has resumed in 2004 and the roller coaster opened in late 2004.

Sounds like Six Flags went a little light on their obligatory bribe to the Mexican government, thus delaying construction a few years.

The only time Ive been on SFM was 6 years ago, actually the third day after opening. Before it was changed into SF it was called "Reino Aventura" -Adventure Kingdom- and its was quite the same layout and theming. And also there lived Keiko, the killer whale that was Willy on the "Free Willy" 1 movie. We all loved him here in Mexico and we were sad when he was taken to Canada to free him, but also happy that we has going to get back to sea. Of course he died not long after he was free.

Also as a fact, that Boomerang you rode is the first Boomerag ever to shake and hurt human heads!!! Yes it is DA FIRST ONE!!!

Hey Tom. I got a driver since I was limited in time and I didn't feel like risking my life in Mexico City with a rental car. (They drive like crazy there!) It was the same price as a couple of taxi fares and I didn't have to wait around wasting time.

As far as checking the parks out. It's a three hour flight from LA to Mexico City and as you can see, I pretty much conquered both parks in about 5 hours and that was with the horrendous traffic they have there. I'm glas I got to do the parks, but I wouldn't make a special trip just for them.
