shesaidboom AND 307 GO TO MONTREAL AND NEW ENGLAND IN SEARCH OF THEIR 200TH COASTERS AND A BUNCH OF OTHER CRAP!!! PART ONE OF ... THREE? FOUR? WHATEV.

Witness the thrills! The chills! The spills! The dills!

Okay well I don't think either of us ate any dills on this trip, but we'll just pretend for the sake of rhyme that we enjoyed a good crisp dill.

So anyway this trip was not really planned as far in advance as some of our others, which is to say we still had like two months of planning around it. We had originally envisioned adding Seabreeze to the itinerary, but a lack of funds from Jer's jobless ass forced us to cancel.

We have always had good luck on trips, be it with good weather, most coasters being open, generally empty parks and basically not a lot of hindrance to our enjoyment of the trip.

There's always a first one that goes bad, though, and for us - I am hoping it was this one. 'Cause like, if it got worse than some of this trip, boy howdy I'd really be tempted to just give up coaster riding.

Part One: La Ronde [...it's in this post, stupid]

Part Two: The Great Escape

Part Three: Six Flags New England

Part Four: Lake Compost Day One

Part Five: Lake Compost Day Two/Conclusion

---

Stop one on our trip was La Ronde in Montreal, a report which we will present to you - IN THE FORM OF HAIKUS!

Before we begin, I'll give you a reasoning as to just why we decided to report in haikus: Montreal and La Ronde sucked so hard that we were forced to create haikus to help pass the time and keep our sanity.

CanobieFan and sfne2003 - we're both in agreement that you guys are the jerks for having such a good time here whilst we got "le shaft".

Without further adieu, let's get to haiku!

I'm curious as to which day you went because most schools started august 28. That doesnt mean ALL of them did. Some started september 1st. It's too bad you had a bad time...but is the reason for it only the lines? Because when I go to a park I know I'm gonna have to wait on some lines...

We went on August 28th. Lines were a big problem, but that definately wasn't the only reason we didn't have a good time. Operations were really poor, dispatch times really long and only one train on everything besides Goliath. It was generally a crappy day outside. There were bees everywhere! People were rude and there was a lot of line jumping, none of which was disciplined. It was a lot of little things that added up.

Don't think that we're upset or anything with you because you said schools would be open, that's not the case at all. We actually appreciated your help and advice. We just thought it would be a funny haiku

I find your thread quite offensive :

Montreal, the suck

Bad service, bad English too

It smells like baguette

Maybe there's bad english because it's a french city you mo...

And baguette is a french thing from France... very different from Quebec !

And Montreal doesn't suck... maybe you've never visited your own city...

16. You need a sense of humor to view the forums. If you don't have a sense of humor, or are easily offended, please turn back now.

It was all in jest. We make fun of ourselves all the time too. Also, point us to the place where we said Toronto didn't suck?

We don't try to offend and it's not like we're personally attacking people from Quebec, so please don't take it as that. [Jer: "Montreal does whatever I say it does!"] Also, from our experience, we found that we disliked Montreal. It's just our opinion. And this is *our* thread

Here, a haiku just for you:

Toronto smells bad

At least we're not Hamilton

shesaidboom AND 307 GO TO MONTREAL AND NEW ENGLAND IN SEARCH OF THEIR 200TH COASTERS AND A BUNCH OF OTHER CRAP!!! PART TWO OF ... THREE? FOUR? WHATEV.

When we last left our intrepid coasterites, they were driving as fast as possible away from Montreal with their middle fingers held high. As with the first day of driving, this was a day full of rain. The boarder crossing also yielded a search of the trunk for narcotics, aliens, aliens on narcotics, or Mexicans stuck in the glove compartment. Yes, those can be found by looking in the trunk. Don't ask me how. It's like a sixth sense for boarder guards.

Two hours later, the rain was still raining, but we had arrived at our next destination: The Great Escape. Jer had already been to the Great Escape in 1997, and had a lot of fun riding Comet. However this time, there were new credits to enjoy. Yay new credits.

The rain was a double-edged sword. On one side, it repelled crowds, leaving the parking lot practically empty. On the other side, many rides were closed - including three credits [all three which would've been new to Jer - *including* the bobsled, Nikki's most looked-forward-to ride at the park]. Shortly after arriving, we were told that the park would be closing. Damnit! We had but two hours at the park, and managed to ride only Comet, Boomerang, Steamin' Demon and Canyon Blaster [my only new credit]. So much for 200 on this trip for Jer.

Without further adieu, onto the pictures, this time - with 100% less bashing of the city!

llama.jpg.eedb2751f69841266bd29291e10bc199.jpg

PS here's a llama

083.jpg.964ab1854a7612ea57c7ac08d895732e.jpg

Omg donez. We had a lot more fun during our abbreviated two-hour, half-open park stay at the Great Escape than we did in our entire two day stay in Montreal. Take *that*, Canada.

084.jpg.fed2bbb7fb386f8fd68ab8b254b20bc1.jpg

The Princess was wandering around the park all day getting absolutely soaked. We think this picture sums up the day effectively: it's wet, has a bad Arrow in it, and the only people in the picture are park employees.

086.jpg.7e1a3c262fe8649eae06583b8baa6b9c.jpg

Holy god did this ride suck. They're going to tear down the bobsled but keep THIS?! The monsters.

082.jpg.e6c94383104bc9050983853033753984.jpg

Something we had to endure far too often at the park.

081.jpg.62bdaa6f4512d7131330caeb78ea7bfc.jpg

Jer fits in with this picture a little too well, don't you think?

085.jpg.ff4a4cd9746e5a60864f98d6e95d0e06.jpg

Nikki wants to govern things, but her pencil and notepad are glued to the desk. Someone must be playing a "welcome to office" rib on her. I'm really not doing too well with captions today.

This snail was my broseph from back when I was reppin' west side.

078.jpg.304e68a198bf756ffc36555bfba10fff.jpg

After awhile, Nikki lost all control of her emotions, and ran up to the trough, hugging it as if she'd never see it again. And she won't!

076.jpg.e306800d4718a33761e55dd88d89ebb8.jpg

Ever the sympathetic boyfriend, Jer immediately began taking pictures, pointing and laughing.

074.jpg.56bdd712512fdcbabdd498870273e0e7.jpg

Nikki was deeply saddened by the lack of bobsled. She stood in front of the queue for 20 minutes with a sad puppy-dog look on her face.

073.jpg.0ca84011815bbd7e2fe4103b62e96751.jpg

First one to guess what's going on in this picture gets a silver dollar. Hint: We're not making origami.

072.jpg.c3f45510a9a771e84b35ddb1a1f4999a.jpg

While Nikki took pictures of Comet, Jer decided to run around and splash in puddles. It was more fun than Boomerang.

Jer + elephant ears = the white Dumbo

070.jpg.ee0bb5a65648e6e4d70d9b7ab05fabf0.jpg

Despite all the rumours we've heard about how the ride has been completely neutered, it was still a lot of fun and was really smooth and speedy.

069.jpg.c1d5be529a21e729043dab568917911a.jpg

Nikki also liked to not put the camera in her pocket and just let it get more wet :p

068.jpg.c39f5c9d77677af9a7f04ae692795efa.jpg

Some of the pictures were ruined because, well, they were being taken in the rain.

063.jpg.9634405724f6873d7a5db8d35cef4291.jpg

"No! The rain *hurt* face."

067.jpg.1eb32e85be58ce5201f45d61695d5fec.jpg

The rain stung Nikki's face. Hurt!

060.jpg.86a60e43ef51bee26c31d760a86a338a.jpg

There were five or six people who just kept going on it over and over again, but otherwise, it was just us, the rain, and wood, glorious wood.

059.jpg.307750a8f1fe8456fdf2d0bfe690e070.jpg

Apparently everyone else was too busy not riding Comet to ride Comet.

062.jpg.52ac2faa5c72000ec06a9b2284a2b20e.jpg

Yay, a good coaster!

056.jpg.9ffb9225b85bb819ddc81348c9cee0ed.jpg

At this point, we still had no clue what was open or closed. Thank God Boomerang wasn't our only credit.

055.jpg.83a664215344b3bc42dc359605910e2d.jpg

Boomerang brings the pain, especially since I knew I didn't *need* to be on the coaster.

057.jpg.1616c5f1263193f216c80a012131bb81.jpg

...it worked, unfortunately.

054.jpg.417232e28a47babc9bb5caaf1d527212.jpg

I already had the boomerang credit, so I let Nikki ride by herself. The ride ops were quite friendly and spent most of the time attempting to get me to ride.

052.jpg.080cdaf174dda6da37e54992b2369cbd.jpg

Batman was scared to go out in the rain. I guess that suit isn't water-retardant. He also seemed less than happy about my "HI BATMAN. PRETTY CRAPPY WEATHER, HUH?" greeting.

051.jpg.2346df7e2113e9cae05b798050e39046.jpg

Look, it's the Great Escape. Fortunately, not too many people were escaping here today. The rain, however, was.

This picture rocks. LOLZ.

Hmm this is very odd, I've only ever known Canadians that loved loved loooved to visit Montreal. Maybe you're visiting the wrong places? I guess it's also in what you're doing while visiting, and what your interests are. I've never been there, but it can't possibly be dirtier, dingier, more pretentious, or more SMELLY than TO, where every street corner smells of rotting sewage. Yum!

"Nunavut gets shaft"

My personal quip to quote

Made me laugh so hard.

And also, sorry but I just have to ask - do you work at She Said Boom? Or is the name shesaidboom related to something different and I've just asked the wierdest question ever?

We didn't do much in Montreal as we were really there to just go to La Ronde and were only there for a day and a half, but what we did encounter wasn't fun! Most of the people I know who love Montreal are really into the club scene, and they seem to have a blast there. Neither of us are really into that, so that could explain it. I know there's much more to do in the city than that, but I did most of it when I was younger and had the same thoughts then. I can't say I'm a huge fan of Toronto either, so I'm not going to try to say it's much better. I do know that we were extremely happy when we left Montreal though.

It's not related to the store, I didn't actually know there was a store called She Said Boom until about a month ago when someone on another message board asked me the same thing

We will finally get around to doing our SFNE update tonight. So more pictures soon!

I actually was *at* She Said Boom a couple of days ago, and hadn't heard of it beforehand. So I was like "HOLY CRAP" when I noticed the name of it when I walked by.

So uh I guess it's pointless to tell you that I saw the store with your screen name. There goes my story.

shesaidboom AND 307 GO TO MONTREAL AND NEW ENGLAND IN SEARCH OF THEIR 200TH COASTERS AND A BUNCH OF OTHER CRAP!!! PART THREE OF ... FOUR? WHATEV.

We're posting on Jer's username because Jer is jealous that I always get to post. [He really just wants to up his post count]

When we last left our intrepid reporters, they were driving through rain soaked New York after a wet and wild day at the Great Escape, on their way to Six Flags New England and SUPERMAN :o

But first, we interrupt the report to bring you a short interlude: Please, for the love of god, do NOT ever stay at the Motel 6 in Enfield, Connecticut. This place is a freakin' dump! We managed to survive two nights there, but only out of sheer willpower and lack of money. Problems we faced with our hotel room: A non-smoking room that not only had an ashtray in it, but also had cigarette burns on the sheets, and a disconnected smoke detector, and the stench of smoke. Bedsprings popping through the mattress, making sleep very uncomfortable, as well as bugs - and a lack of a showerhead, making water pressure so furious that it was able to cut Nikki's boobs!!! So uh, please, do us a big favour and stay across the street at the Red Roof Inn. Our experience there was very nice, the room was reasonably priced and in a very good location to both SFNE and the Enfield Square Mall. OKAY, now that that's out of the way...

SFNE was a ton of fun and had a lot of great rides. We couldn't have enjoyed ourselves nearly as much had we not purchased a Flass Pass, though. That thing is an absolute must for this park. Crowds weren't off-the-wall heavy, however they were plentiful enough to cause long waits for everything. Except those smart enough to get a Flass Pass. Man that thing is awesome.

We had three days at the park, but decided to just spend two, as we had tons of fun and didn't feel like spending a third day there on a Friday without a Flash Pass. Not really our bag.

Anyway, ON WITH THE PICTURES!

135.jpg.a2fa47cc5a00beefae75c63f040be4a1.jpg

At least we got one good photo out of it.

We've always experienced extremely long lines for boomerangs, but even though it was packed the line for the boomerang was definately the shortest in the park. What gives?

The ride op on Poison Ivy neglected to measure anyone and allowed two toddlers to board the train. The other ride op then made him unlock the restraints, measure the kids, kick them off and then re-check the restraints on the very long train.

Lake Compounce is coming up next!

We were waiting for you to post the "SFNE" installment before we replied - we really love that park, and, seeing as we seem to have similar taste (we agree that "Knoebel's" sucks), we were curious as to what you thought. Nice to know you had a good time.

Quick q, though, did you hit Catapult at all? I prefer some of S&S's other flats more, but it's a unique ride, and I like it a lot (Monica won't go near it, though). And how did you like Pandemonium?

We just hit "Lake Compounce" for the first time a few weeks ago, we liked it a lot; Boulderdash was great, we love the "Screaming Swings", and Wildcat, while disliked by most, quickly shot itself up my list with its ridiculous stand-up air-time. Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

As always, awesome TR, great photos and captions.
