WillMontu
Great Yarmouth and Joyland We got Nigel something for the coach "I got a golden ticket!" James won a prize A horse racing game Another view of the Roller Coaster Suprisingly they let us in, even without a "more mature paying person" Inflateble attractions were all along the beach Perhaps the most realistic Arrow ride simulator. The car literally shook back and forth going up the lift hill This was an unusual "flume" ride in that it had no drops, and had clear water We left Joyland and headed to the pier Designed for kids, of course This was one of those "WTF" type rides Tub Twist is a powered "Virginia Wheel" ride. It spins a lot Joyland is a small "kiddie park" Time for a 'real' credit It's powered The snails ride over at Joyland I wonder if Arnold Palmer actually endorses this mini-golf course I thought this place had an Arrow multilooper While there were no 3D effects, there were plenty of blacklight effects Another "3D" attraction The Haunted Hotel was a funhouse type attraction As mentioned above though, the Wacky Worm was the main draw Some of the drops are fairly large Fortunately our brakeman did not run any red lights The inside of the facade does not reveal much, besides this tree View from the top of the lift Even though it is a scenic railway, the ride uses a standard chain lift We did not get the chance to litter This is where the brakeman sits In addition, the ride ops have to regularly get out and push While Vekoma rides have an inch between the upstops and the track, this ride doesn't even have upstop wheels Roller Coaster is an old Scenic Railway Cha-ching! But what we were here for was the Wacky Worm! It's a traditional sea-side amusement park Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach was our next stop.
WillMontu
Thorpe Park  I had visited Thorpe Park in the past, back in 1999. Back then, the park was a disappointment. All the rides kept breaking down, and the only true credit was X. I wonder what's on the menu now? Of course, being an Intamin ride, it's not without a fatality Zoom zoom zoom! Sorry, you can't ride yet. Some guy just took a picture and the ride went haywire So far: One stabbing, a broken Intamin Rocket, a minor B&M inverted breakdown, a day without power, a dead bird...have I missed anything? ERT on Nemesis and Stealth It's an Intamin ride. Anyone can fit on one, right? "What was that?" "Some naked guy with a hat on" "What did he do?" "He pounded me!" Back in 1999, Thorpe Park was known for its water rides. Tidal Wave was still under construction at the time Somebody looks like he was pounded The sign of excellence Another ride on Colossus, this time through the "sad and pathetic" line Since there were no donkeys, we took the train back to the park. (I unintentially caught Stealth on the top-hat while taking this shot) Here's one for Elissa We were unable to get our cow-tipping credit This is where McDonalds comes from. Got milk? The park skyline The farm has cows, sheep, and goats These are the poor dummies that have to ride the coasters every morning The park has a train ride to the "Thorpe Farm" The flume has a double dip drop Somebody had an accident on the flume ride You don't get very wet on this water ride This is the "Wildest ride in the wilderness". At least when Robb is on board. The flume was the same as it was seven years ago, only this time it didn't keep breaking down The Sky Swatter was another S&S flat ride Pay no attention to the people on the ride; the Carousel will be open later The signs really help to prevent people from climbing (or putting wet clothes) on the rock These people have the right idea Bad news: Well, there is no bad news! Good news: The buffet price has been reduced today Rush is an S&S Screaming Swing. They were only running one side, and the program was weak (at least compared to the ones at Wild Adventures), but we had our express passes. New for 2006: It's 9/11 - The Ride Being in the Navy, Chris is right at home Ha ha ha! It says "poop" More Intamin goodness. I wonder of people flying out from Heathrow can see an "X" on the roof of building in the background Kids are great for getting those hard to get credits, and getting to propose to each other too. She said no! (Great idea Chris!) Is this supposed to be some sort of "gay marriage"? I thought Chris was already married There is a lot of "hang time" in the heartline rolls Next credit was Colossus Vertical loop goodness through the trees! After Stealth, we hit Nemesis Inferno This staff member was holding up the queue for the first ride of the day This is what happens when you take your phone on the ride First new credit: Stealth. If you want to ride, you need to get a hands free kit for your cell phone, and don't drink and drive. Elissa warned us that this place would be just like a Six Flags park Where do we go to get on that ride? The last park of the UK portion of the trip
WillMontu
If anyone is actually reading this, I'm nearly done with posting everything Next stop: Balder (and the Banana!) One of the staff members explains that the balance of pressure in the tanks was off and that it would take a while to fix. At least we got the credit though "Thank you for calling Intamin technical support. Your call may be monitored for quality assurance. To speak to someone about Monorails, press one now. To speak to someone about our roller coasters press two now..." "For assistance in buying one of our c This is why the ride is so great! We went back for ERT on Thunder The Intamin curse strikes again The "realistic Arrow Ride simulator" I remember riding one of these in a fast food restaurant in Auckland Is this an acceptable amount of water? Thunder Coaster is a lot of fun when it is wet Another shot of the park Does Utgang translate to "Danger: Vekoma Ride"? Although it wasn't too bad in the magic seat #100! Ow ow ow! What's with that sad and pathetic kid on the Frog Hopper? The ride starts with a GCI style first drop Another shot of Thunder Coaster Robb paying around $3 to fuel his Coke addition Be sure to leave your sticks and ECT in the station There is also a powered coaster for those who are sad and pathetic The park is built on a hillside with some good views We actually got Dan to ride this one Best ride ever! Thunder Coaster When they knew Robb was coming, they upped the price of the buffet to $30 There's some "hair time" on this. Not as much as Balder though Speed Monster...through the trees! I need to go there some day to get my Dog Fart credit Elissa loved the escalator ride that penetrated the Intamin ride Yay for another COUNTRY credit! Yay for another bridge credit We land in the middle of nowhere. As soon as we get through customs, we see the plane take off again. I guess we're stranded now. Exclusive Ryanair window seat POV! The seat backs on Ryanair reminded me of the seat backs on the Vekoma Junior Inverteds Can't think of a good caption for this. This is our plane OMG! It's the Blue Screen of Death (why don't they just switch to Linux?) It came to the point at which Nigel slowed down to 40mph so we could boot the non add-on people off the bus
WillMontu
I still have Liseberg to post (along with a few other things, such as some exclusive Elissa Bingo pictures), but due to the response (or rather, lack thereof) to this TR, I want to know if anyone wants me to post them.
Erik Johnson
People like to look at these Will, please post the rest. You got a nice Photo TR here. Just because nobody responds to them, does not mean people do not enjoy looking at them
tinflowers
Yes, please do. I enjoy them very much so.
robbalvey
Will, please do! When I complete the "park index" pages I will link to ALL of these UK Trip Reports. Â So just because they might not be getting immediate response here in the short term, there will be a greater opportunity for them to be viewed in the long term! WillMontu
I've still got more to post to this. I've got the rest of Liseberg, some of London, and other bits and pieces. I've started posting the images at lower resolutions as I don't want to fill up a single page with ten of my posts all containing large images No caption It doesn't matter where you sit, there's air in every seat It looks like they have a third train too This is what ERT is all about, even with the second train removed Airtime on every hill The drop doesn't look very steep Shot of Kanonen from Balder's lift It's got more steel in it than a regular woodie, but it's got more wood in it too The lines for ERT were so short that they actually removed a train from the track Riding Kanonen meant pulling ourselves away from Balder for five minutes The low capacity of the Cherry Picker Ride meant that many us didn't get to ride Hi Joe! The lift is steep for a woodie Exclusive transfer track shot! Any coaster geek would recognize these coasters Instead he went looking for more beer A nice touch. Hopefully Barry didn't use it Here's one for the Robb fanboys/fangirls out there They were testing the ride while we were still working on it. What ever happened to Sweden's "Zero Vision" initiative? So who was it that impregnated Elissa anyway? Hammers, nails, and Sharpies! Robb + hammer + beer = Bad idea! "The Intamin Curse hit us and we need your help putting this ride back together" Who wants breakfast? Welcome to Liseberg This is the house within the ride's structure, built as a tribute to Bakken We had ERT on three rides, Balder, Kanonen, and the Cherry Picker ride Can you find Several A-holes? A Plopp sign? A Banana? Shockwave? An Intamin Rocket? Joe? With or without a Michael Jackson star, anything goes in Europe Wacko Jacko had one too Good old Al had a star here Liseberg is in an urban setting, and within walking distance of the hotel The hotel we stayed at was interesting. For one thing, our room keys were actually keys, and there was also this creepy elevator. I think I'd rather ride ToT at MGM
niiicolaaah
OH GOD I forgot about that elevator!! Â I didn't go in the Balder house. Â Yay for more UK trip pics!
WillMontu
I finally got round to posting the rest of Liseberg. There's a few little "surprises" in this one. Comments are appreciated! If anyone is interested, I can post my London pictures too BINGO! I'll finish my DDR Trip Report sometime too "Dump the Ump"? I need a bathroom Pinball machines for Cameron! Up above the streets and houses Rainbow climbing high It looks like a tame ride, but it's not at all Slide from side to side on Rainbow! Yet another Escalator ride Don't you wish you could ride Peter Pan, Joe? The Dreamland looked like a Disney type ride The haunted hotel is a walk-thru attraction, which was fairly well done with live actors More Swedish patriotism Yay for more Gator colored rides! ...which explains why we got stuck on the lift Our boat contained the seal of excellence So we ride again "That's not an acceptable amount of wetness" They were dispatching boats fairly quickly Especially when you stand up to avoid the waterfall The rapids ride wasn't very wet I thought people only flashed on Splash Mountain, but then again, this is Europe But even it wasn't, there's always the Dan Dryer in the bathroom I would consider this a Dan Friendly water ride And this is the part where we have to jump out The flume also follows the terrain well Passing under the Schwarzkopf ride The flume ride Every few seconds, they would dispatch another train The top is a good place to get lots of shots of the LiseJoeBanan At the top is...another Escalator Ride! Liseberg even has an Escalator Ride Another shot of the Banana I can understand them mis-spelling my name in my high school senior year yearbook three times (which was actually coaster themed), but this is unacceptable Sweden's got World Cup Fever too But it looks like the Banana and the Rapids ride are farting rides too (Schwarzkopf rides were sometimes distributed under the Intamin name) Proof that Balder is in fact a Farting Intamin Woodie Don't feed the birds - They're not interested I'll take the Whopper Value Meal with a medium Dryck 4 3 2 Time for lunch. There are four Burger Kings at Liseberg Robb's duct tape comes in handy again, making it easier for everyone to identify their Balder bags Some of the looks of the Swedish kids are priceless Casey fits! Of course, we also had to take over the kiddie coaster too It's a well designed ground-hugging terrain coaster Be sure to buy Robb's DVD to see all of this Going up the lift ...backwards??? The first train is loaded up an ready to go... Such as a complete takeover of the Banana! All good things come to an end, but there's the rest of Liseberg to check out
