Do not adjust your internet! I've finally, actually, amazingly updated this thread. I kind of got bored with posting trip reports. It's a lot of work, and this forum has kinda died down a bit so a lot of it has been "why bother" but f*ck it, looks like we're all gonna die anyway, right?

You may recall back in December 2017 my #1 lady and I celebrated my big four-oh with a whirlwind weekend of some Florida parks we'd been wanting to hit: Busch Tampa, Funspot, and Sea World Orlando. After an amazing time we agreed to sometime do it again. Little did we'd realize that we'd be back just a little over a year later, but this time for Dawn's big midlife milestone.

Full disclosure: our original plan for this b-day was to fly off to some booze-and-beach filled all-inclusive resort on some tropical island, but the dates quickly crept up on us and we just couldn't make it happen. However, thanks to finding some cheap airfare and already being SEAS platinum passholder, it turned out to be pretty easy for us pop down to Orlando for a long weekend. She wasn't exactly thrilled by the idea of going to parks all weekend - its my thing not hers - but we've both long had our eye on their Discovery Cove park, and the weekend of our visit would take place during the "Seven Seas Food & Booze Blowout". It's not actually called that but that's what we're going with.

01.thumb.JPG.e6ab451568db55dbe765e12527512c06.JPG

Hey guys! We're on a plane!

03.thumb.JPG.957253271d8de38db149ea5e2ff284ab.JPG

We flew out on Saturday morning at an ungodly hour but it made for a few excellent sunrise shots. Our initial plan was to simply stay at the same hotel we stayed at last time we visited Orlando in 2017 (the Wyndham behind the Wawa near iDrive and Sand Lake, that we actually really liked), but Dawn shopped around and eventually settled on the Marriott Residence.

04.thumb.JPG.627d40ada3dac31fb68af561326812a5.JPG

Early ass flight means early ass arrival - we touched down in Orlando exactly as scheduled, around 8:30am. By the time we got out and found an Uber, and took the short drive over to our hotel it was early as hell, but we knew this going in. When we booked we could arrived in the afternoon, but I thought it was a better idea to get into town and start drinking as early as possible.

05.thumb.JPG.249eda6968aa93278f35175f594c524c.JPG

The Marriott Residence is an official Seaworld hotel, just around the corner from the main park, and this came with some perks - notably free shuttles to all three SW parks, complementary quick queue, animal encounters, etc. The concierge at the hotel noted our request for an early check-in and was able to hold our bags until then.

SWMap.thumb.jpg.24c61053bf0d33f9e6fa2f0eb8cb8706.jpg

We'd been up since way early and were starving by now, and happened to just make the cutoff for the hotels' fairly extensive continental breakfast. We quickly grabbed coffees and a few noms and found a place in the lobby to chill before walking around the hotel grounds, checking out the pool area, basketball court and patios, and meeting the hotels many stray cats.

06.thumb.JPG.2da4a0613b76db51e55b35a51da22238.JPG

Figuring we still had plenty of time to kill we decided to walk out of the hotel complex, cross a mildly busy highway Frogger-style, and had brunch at the only place nearby serving booze this early, Bonefish Grill. We also had plans to stock up on booze for the hotel room at the nearby CVS, because its Florida and you can buy beer anywhere.

07.thumb.JPG.adc7e51a3176e4c615fcb41c019c432e.JPG

Do not adjust your internet, this place has funky Bloody Mary glasses.

08.thumb.JPG.c6e622b3d5f4833f208c661cdf4abeac.JPG

The waitress sold us on some "unlimited Bloody Mary brunch special" and later tried to walk it back when she realized we'd just arrived into town for a birthday weekend consisting of nothing sober. Unlimited means unlimited, hun. I'll have another one, thanks.

09.thumb.JPG.9357902198fd54c768d7398471c69aa6.JPG

The color of the hollandaise was definitely off but the Benedict tasted great. Just as our food came out I got a call from the hotel letting us know we could check in whenever we were ready, a score as it was barely noon. We finished up and popped over to CVS for a few things.

10.thumb.JPG.59973451bf63a24d061e663539fd4cd3.JPG

I'm totally dressed for Florida weather. Also, this is practically a highway. Good times.

11.thumb.JPG.d5ed806b065865aa7340b6ab742ff955.JPG

We got back to the hotel and got all sorted at the desk - room keys, etc. and headed upstairs to unload everything.

12.thumb.JPG.3554bce93fdbe30375f2dfcbe6e17852.JPG

We initially found the layout of the hotel confusing but eventually we got it. The hotel itself was nice enough but nothing over the top - it was reasonably priced for a suite and for being so close to the parks.

13.thumb.JPG.fe98a2bbc69f47bd350c3d7bb88bbed9.JPG

Love the little details like the inside of the elevator.

14.thumb.jpg.eccfab31fc070dc9e153293158f84bc4.jpg

Always lots of weird stuff to do in weird Florida.

15.thumb.JPG.82e20031a8a6cc3ccb5eea6ae85e1691.JPG

Our suite for the next four days was just fine.

Once we got all sorted and stretched out for a minute we decided to keep the party going and just head over to the main park. It was mid-afternoon and we had nothing else planned. We waited for the next available shuttle...

20.thumb.JPG.e5273443c8794fc41ffc5b5284f14b69.JPG

and were over at the park in 10 minutes...

22.thumb.JPG.e334a7cffcfb185839f8278871711b0f.JPG

So many flamingos.

23.thumb.JPG.a9e3ebaa35cca89ea07905eae2576e99.JPG

And Manta!

24.thumb.JPG.5f2b72528883645eb997284257fe558c.JPG

We love Manta.

25.thumb.JPG.2c5727a34fe239c83e1162414f312f59.JPG

But first! More booze. And don't think for a second that Dawn was that far ahead of me, that's #2.

26.thumb.JPG.1dd52a61e2e6b321db9b80c09fbe8a12.JPG

Drinking at Sharks is expensive but the drinks are huge and stiff as a corpse. And there's live fish under the bar! I'll stop here every time I come to this park.

27.thumb.JPG.99a2aaa9dc6f8f7f44d28978b3c17553.JPG

Get a little tipsy, ride the shark tunnel.

28.thumb.JPG.65695e1afd5386b5891f41ceaf26921a.JPG

Get stuck in the middle of the shark tunnel because there's too many people on it and the conveyor stops.

29.thumb.JPG.8407c0298105c71ac4f66f37d74f4910.JPG

Eventually make your way out of the shark tunnel and then ride the best aquatic-themed B&M on earth. I'm just kidding. Mako isn't the best aquatic-themed B&M, its the best B&M. I'm not kidding.

30.thumb.JPG.14af5b00bfae8d5b81dddf541a93097b.JPG

I don't know what it is about this ride but its just absolutely f*cking phenomenal. Dawn won't ride it because she hates giant hypercoasters, but luckily the ride never has a wait - even on a Saturday early-evening. Ride it in the front row. Can someone please explain to me why this ride is so good in the front row? Jesus H Christ.

31.thumb.JPG.4dd150ba16a7d8b130cd93e3ba5e8261.JPG

So as I mentioned the park was hosting their annual Seven Seas Foods and Booze smashdown. We were booked at the hotel until Tuesday and the only solid plan was Discovery Cove on Monday. We figured we'd check out the fest tomorrow, and while wandering around the park we were checking out some of the booths in anticipation of what we might get the following day. We popped past this boozy stand selling Dreamsicles - basically an orange creamsicle. But with booze. F*cking yum.

Making Dawn pose in weird places cause we're drunk and why not?

34.thumb.JPG.a189debca3b5775dc9dcf29dad8b677c.JPG

After a long day she wasn't up for any coasters, and at this point wanted to head back to the hotel to have a night cap and hit the hay before a long funday Sunday of eatin' and drankin', but she graciously allowed me to do a night-time round of the B&Ms before we headed out.

35.thumb.JPG.dfdb9cd90c72e086acd3eae351e56e1b.JPG

Yo, can we talk about Kraken?

37.thumb.JPG.618044fe219a524f7e49c1329538e8e6.JPG

Hey, Kraken is super good. We rode it a handful of times on our last visit and while I enjoyed it, this time around it was an entirely different animal. Front seat, right side. The first of many laps this weekend.

36.thumb.JPG.cdac1cfaa7a94bff141996b66bf4be71.JPG

Mako night rides!

38.thumb.JPG.a0f0c4bb82bd97b585ac2e55cf32c62d.JPG

Couldn't help but hit Manta twice in a row (thanks to an empty station and kind ride ops who let me re-ride) in the dark. So, so good.

We really love this park. We arrived here in 2017 with fairly average expectations and left completely blown away. The park is exceptionally clean, the landscaping is pristine, all of the rides are enjoyable and clearly well cared for and the animals and their habitats are beautiful! We were thrilled to see things hadn't changed, and we're stoked to be able to visit a few more times over the coming days.

Sounds like Oga's Cantina in DL and (probably) WDW. Still....good drinkin'!

Thanks for making me miss SeaWorld during this time, really needed that right now. I'm gonna wear out my AP the rest of this year whenever the parks re-open. And yes that Shark bar is amazing, I stop there for a drink every trip, even been known to abandon the family in Sesame Street area for about half an hour and bolt it over there for a lap on Mako and a quick drink.

Quick question about that Residence by Marriott you stayed at, you mentioned free quick que since it's a SeaWorld partner hotel, was that a special package you had to book or does every room rate include that? Also how did you redeem the quick que, have to take a voucher to the park or did you room key cover it or something? I never knew SeaWorld offered that through their partner hotels but we stay in the area all the time so might have to check it out next time, again whenever that may be.

The trip was over a year ago and the missus booked the hotel so I don't remember specifics. I don't think it was a specific package, it was just included. I do know we had to stop at the hotel concierge in the morning to grab a voucher for our quick queues which we used to redeem the actual card at the park, luckily able to use the kiosks at the entrance to do this so we didn't have to wait in a line at guest services. It was only skip once per ride per day but since she didn't use hers much of the weekend (foreshadowing) I was able to double-up. We also had to "book" the shuttles over to the park just by calling down to the desk, but we couldn't figure out why since the shuttles were almost always mostly empty and they were always able to accommodate us on the next available shuttle. To book to the complimentary animal encounters we had to book those the night before, either by stopping at the concierge or calling down from our room. Hope that helps.

I still really enjoyed the Wyndham we stayed at in 2017 but now reminiscing about this trip is making me realize how much I enjoyed this hotel as well.

Awesome stuff. Love SeaWorld, as you know. Kraken is a great ride that doesn't get a whole lot of love, glad to see you were enjoying it and it's still in decent shape.

Really looking forward to the Discovery Cove report because I basically pleaded everyone to go in one of these threads years ago and talked about how awesome it is and posted a bunch of photos of giant-ass stingrays because nobody ever talks about it.... hoping it lived up to my recommendation. And since CoasterBill isn't getting around to it anytime soon, you mind as well beat him to the punch

Love reading this!

nice update.

we didn't eat at that restaurant / bar during our visit a couple of years ago (the restaurant was too expensive for what we were in the mood for at that moment), but we did marvel over the fish in the bartop.

Thanks man, I'm going to have to look into that for our next trip. Sometimes we just go down and back same day with the kids but if I can get those perks with a reasonable room rate well have to make a weekend of it.

Holy f*ck, we're back!

I'm trying to clean old photos off my phone and in doing so realized I never finished this b-day Seaworld blowout report. I'm not gonna type too much I don't think, so enjoy some photos. Honestly, this weekend is pretty fuzzy three+ years later.

On Sunday we got up and headed back to the park to get a lanyard for the Gurgles and Grub fest the park was doing.

01.thumb.jpg.9db625790971bcbd2c7b6db5bc1e88da.jpg

After picking up our lanyards (our BGW platinum passes got us a nice discount) we stopped at Flamecraft or whatever its called for a morning cocktail.

02.thumb.jpg.29504a4f7de52f6e98d3c109682b1154.jpg

Lots of beers to choose from.

03.thumb.jpg.06a33355e0f0f83fcda0ce94646135aa.jpg

So let's just get Bloody Mary's instead. These were really good (for a theme park).

04.thumb.jpg.eedad394c0005e83a51f7efc25221da4.jpg

We stopped for a ride on Journey To Atlantis.

05.thumb.jpg.e55c801988d0c97cf66a5c9a66b75727.jpg

And popped in the aquarium underneath the ride.

After two days at Seaworld we decided to spend our Sunday evening hanging out at the hotel and hit the pool.

Sunset over Orlando.

41.thumb.jpg.ca2d30d854817c362bce5eade3dcc95c.jpg

I can tell you we had a bite and some drinks at the hotel's poolside bar/restaurant. I couldn't tell you what we ate or what was in these drinks if you paid me. Orange crush maybe? We had a long day planned for Monday, so we retired to bed early so we could get some rest ahead of our much-anticipated first visit to...

42.thumb.jpg.24abd1b47c2f478c1446d9d47c2365e3.jpg

Discovery Cove!

43.thumb.jpg.b46cf7d14e0f63d2734069f479eff67e.jpg

There's lots of great things I can tell you about Discovery Cove but the most important thing you need to know is that your entrance fee includes all-you-can-eat food and drinks all day.

44.thumb.jpg.da370bf67eeca03e289fb272cf22bd59.jpg

This was a very early breakfast. Not pictured: a huge lunch and endless snacks all day. And yes booze is included. You do have to pay for a "premium" drink package to all get all kinds of goodies but if you're content with basic-ass beer all day, drink as much as you want. (In 2021 we visited again and they were now including hard seltzers with the basic-ass-free-beers). And the food is decent. And there is lots of it. Just eat it all.

45.thumb.JPG.92b5cf43e2665f1f95f213ac55eb48ed.JPG

The thing with DC is you're in a wetsuit all day and so you do things like stick your phone in a locker and don't look at it all day long and also don't take any pictures because you're busy living your best life at Discovery Cove. Doing things like swimming with dolphins. And the lazy river. Did I mention the lazy river? It's fu*king phenomenal. We spent hours in it.

46.JPG.5a6f4625fbd9dcc2867e8220973d3678.JPG

Nevertheless, we did manage a few photos of us swimming with the dolphins. This is a super cool, amazing experience but for us was a one-and-done. While we were super stoked to come back to DC in 2021, we were content to not swim with the dolphins again. P.S. the water in the dolphin lagoon is cold. Like f*cking holy sh*tballs freezing cold. You have been warned.

47.thumb.jpg.3b8531c08bc2368886db936ea5e53d72.jpg

This is the only other photo of anything at DC, taken as we were leaving. We absolutely love this park so much and will go here every single time we are in Orlando for the rest of our lives. Thinking about visiting? Just do it. Worth every penny.

We stopped back at the hotel for showers and headed out on the town.

48.thumb.jpg.7fe62c68939a02483c91258a17b69ee5.jpg

No Orlando trip would be complete without a visit to Fun Spot Orlando. We love this park, probably more than we should.

49.thumb.jpg.f41be513736cade2e3120bcd817a5726.jpg

Sure, there's never anyone here when we visit and they're generally incredibly understaffed.

50.thumb.jpg.080730addd08a9bd96ba97b0d43ed191.jpg

But they have Fun Spot punch.

51.thumb.jpg.209e29a38f6c87bd299ed52b43502427.jpg

Lots of bright and humorously named flats.

52.thumb.jpg.02ba5944f55352696286af4dfff0016f.jpg

And Freedom Flyer! We love Freedom Flyer. And probably the jankiest Screamin' Swing I've ever been on.

54.thumb.jpg.0be23d3f5362f3285c1b1c5ce8bea729.jpg

And White Lightning! This ride is criminally underrated, imo. I've always ranked this humble, mid-tier GCI way higher than I should.
In 2021 I finally got to ride in the back of a fully loaded train and holy crap.

55.thumb.jpg.d462c23db16e5bf770123131f7701e87.jpg

We waited zero minutes for a spin on the parks nice Ferris Wheel.

And the hit up each of the parks phenomenal go-karts; our fave is Conquest.

We ended the night with a dozen+ zen-rides on White Lightning and Freedom Flyer and closed out an empty park.

And that was a wrap for Monday. Low on photos but high on fun, dolphin swims and endless beers. We still had one more (half)day before this trip was to end, more to come...

Anyway, glad you got to experience it Boldy. And thanks for writing it up!  I agree the dolphin swim is one and done, but the lazy river and reef I could stay in all day. Did you feed the birds at all? Those things are crazy. DC used to always be a must visit for me back when you could get a combo with SEAWORLD and Busch and it only cost like $50 above and beyond the 2 park ticket anyways, so it was a no brainer. Itching to go back, though.

Yes! We did feed the birds, loved that. Obviously no photos as whenever we did it we just hopped out of the lazy river for it, but also a great and worth mentioning part of the day, thank you for reminding me.

Unfortunately when we visited again in 2021, the entire bird sanctuary was closed, including part of the lazy river that its in, which we weren't notified about until we arrived even though we'd bought our DC tickets like a month in advance - total crap but we still had a great time because its Discovery Cove. But that's a story you'll be told way, way in your future.
