Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread

I went two years ago and would have gone last year but had to go through stupid Divorce classes on the same weekend.

Awkward overshare...

I mean... it's ten bucks.

It's the midwest. That's a high dollar outing 'for us folks.' I can buy a tanker truck full of Natty Light for a dollar more and it will last me the whole weekend.

Why would they replace an already awesome water coaster? I mean, Holiday will have 3 this year. Why can't they have 2?

I don't know if you've been to the park in the last two years, but Deluge has so many problems. It literally goes down every 30/45 minutes and it is a huge hassle to the park. I saw so many boats valley last year and don't forget about the people that were injured on the ride last year due to a valleyed boat.

It seems like the whole magnets thing that proslide tried out sounded cool, but turned out to be unnecessarily complicated and technologically unreliable when a simple water blaster seems to work fine. The new ones they have built like thunder rapids at SFFT and the new cheetah chase don’t use the magnets I believe.

People tend to forget, Deluge was the first ever hydromagentic water coaster, it was a prototype. I love it but the constant downtime and issues it has causes headaches for everyone involved. Operators at the park have told me, techs hate it because anytime it goes down, they have to visit the pump room, mechanical room, unload section and then have to hike up to the top to restart the ride. All newer models have the unload and load areas at the same elevation if not in the same station to curb this issue. Prosilde themselves have tried to fix the issues the ride has but can't seem to understand its constant different issues. A new operating system would cost a lot on this ride and with it being 13 years old this year, it might be better just to start over from scratch.

Although I would say it is probably in the top 5 most popular rides in the park IMO. It’s thrilling but still relatively family friendly. I think it would be worth the investment and still build a new one too if possible!

  • 3 weeks later...

Went to King Louie's Winter Walk through, at Kentucky Kingdom yesterday. We learned in the presentation that Halloscream will be back and expanded. The Giant Wheel is being given a refurbishment and Thunder Run received more track replacement. They took us in the print shop, technical service shop and in many back stage areas. It was a nice event, I only took a few photos.

Breakdance, Himalaya, and Thunder Run are also turning 30 this year!

I can't wait to see what they'll do with HalloScream especially. Last year they started making plans in July, but now they have a whole year to prep for whatever they'll pull off. This is especially good considering their calendar states they'll be open Halloween Day Saturday!

Yeah, I;m excited to see what they do for Halloscream. Wonder if they'll use Oak Island again?

I also really appreciated Ed coming out to talk to the group as well about selecting certain manufacturers for the park that fits within their budget and pleases more than just the enthusiast crowd. Kentucky Flyer is a really good example of that push, imo.

Don't mean to double post (Edit: nvm, guess I was making this while sfkk was posting too!), but I did have some stuff from the tour around the park for any interested.

They're doing their special again this year: 2 days at the park + free drinks for $29.95 when you visit kentuckykingdom.com/ilovecoasters

HUGE time jump, because I shot most of the tour on my camera (see YouTube video above). This was in the print shop, which is the lil shed building underneath Lightning Run.

Speaking of Lightning Run, walking out the garage door out back greets you to the sweet floor level S-bend curves on the coaster.

100ft first drop. Unassuming, but VERY steep and powerful, especially in the backseat!

Lots of photo ops for folks walking as far as underneath the first drop, and over to the footers of what was Greezed Lightnin'.

Awesome of the park to give us such a closeup tour of Lightning Run, which was my personal highlight of the event! Big thanks to them!
