Six Flags Qiddiya (Saudi Arabia) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Obviously super early schematic artwork at this point, but if the idea here is that there's an enormous record breaking coaster that dives off that 200m tall cliff, this is for sure something to follow in the coming years.

The concept artwork is nice looking as well in general. If they achieve the vibe in each area shown this will be a great new park. I like the creativity of areas with unique themes that aren't necessarily tied to any existing IP.

One interesting program that hasn't been as widely publicized is the introduction of a Saudi-sponsored scholarship program to send students to hospitality management school in Florida with Six Flags then providing a myriad of internship opportunities in order to create a strong Qiddiya leadership team. I think it's a great idea for the park! (Article Here)

It'll be interesting to see how the tourism industry continues to grow in that region, and the licensing fees Six Flags receives from the international parks division will only lead to a stronger company domestically, which is something all enthusiasts should get excited for!

I had no plans to ever visit Saudi Arabia but if this gets built and opens that will change. The renderings look amazing and even if only ¼ of what's in it gets built it will be amazing. I love the setting with the cliffs around it - I hope that's the location they end up using. I also noticed a race track in one of the renderings that a pedestrian bridge crosses over and the Falcon's Fury coaster goes by. Is that going to be an actual race track like Formula 1, or is it a go cart or Autopia or racing type of ride? If they got an actual Formula 1 race track there with races that would really add to the entertainment city.

It technically could be both. The cars on track are Formula One cars from all ages. I definitely saw cars from Senna, Vettel, Mansell and Hamilton. With Liberty Media expading to so many new places, I wouldn't wonder if there are plans to go to Saudi Arabia.

On the other hand, it's only a rendering. So it may be only a tracked ride themed to formula one with the tracks being left out of the rendering.

I know nothing about this guy outside of this article, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong in this assessment -

He was the CEO of Disneyland Paris Resort, easily the worst Disney resort by a long shot.  The parks are trash with pretty themeing.  The hotels are trash with...themeing?  The restaurants are trash (thank god for Earl Of Sandwich).  The only reason I returned to DLP after my initial visit was literally to get on the bus for a TPR tour.  I landed at CDG, took an Uber to the resort, then climbed on the bus.  Screw that place.

He was behind the launch of Shanghai Disney which seemed to plagued with issues left and right, let alone all of the culture shock once it opened, though that can't be contributed to just this guy.

Now he's left Disney Japan (thank god, before he could do damage) and is getting cozy with Six Flags.  Does this bode well in any way?

Qiddiya has announced that design work has begun for Falcon's Flight at Six Flags Qiddiya, with some initial statistics included for this record-breaking Intamin coaster!

https://qiddiya.com/en/media/press-office/six-flags-qiddiya-begins-design-of-world-s-fastest-roller-coaster/

Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC), in partnership with Intamin Amusement Rides, has kicked off the design process for the Falcon’s Flight, the signature attraction of Six Flags Qiddiya – a one-of-a-kind theme park scheduled for opening in Qiddiya’s first phase.

The Falcon’s Flight is set to become the world’s longest, fastest and tallest coaster. It will travel across approximately 4km, feature a vertical cliff dive maneuver into a 160m-deep valley using magnetic motor acceleration (LSM technology), and achieve unprecedented speeds of 250+ km/h.

The Falcon’s Flight will also be the world’s tallest free-standing coaster structure featuring a parabolic airtime hill allowing a weightlessness airtime experience.

Qiddiya’s Chief Executive Officer, Philippe Gas, commented on the signature ride saying: “Rollercoaster fans around the world have been eagerly anticipating this ride since it was announced as there is nothing quite like it anywhere else. Now  we are in the design stage with the experts at Intamin and the engineering team at Six Flags, the excitement is building! Falcon’s flight will  dominate the skyline at Qiddiya weave all the way around our destination, right out of the theme park, up the cliffside, and down the cliff face – the greatest drop of any ride in the world; it won’t be for the fainthearted!”

On each ride – a three-minute long adventure – up to 20 passengers will experience the exhilaration of three electromagnetic propulsion launch systems as well as panoramic views of Six Flags Qiddiya and the Resort Core.

Daniel Schoppen – Vice President Design & Development, Intamin Amusement Rides – commented: “I will never forget the moment when I was standing at the edge of the 200-meter-high cliff on the Tuwaiq Mountain in Qiddiya, looking into the valley and imagining the creation of a future record-setting roller coaster. I knew that exactly at this spot, The Falcon Flight will dive down along the cliff, ending in a unique exhilarating 250+ km/h proximity flight close to the ground. The worldwide unique setting and heights such as the natural cliff will enable us to design an architectural masterpiece in steel.”

Covering 32 hectares (79 acres) and featuring 28 rides and attractions across six themed lands, Six Flags Qiddiya is set to become the theme park that breaks all records of entertainment in Saudi Arabia and the region.

Really, it's not much faster than Forumla Rossa, and even with a 500+ foot tall drop, it doesn't need to exceed the g-forces that Intamin's coasters do now.  You're putting too much into it.

Excited for when Cedar Point gets a version in a couple of years, but Saudi Arabia is definitely on my "never going to" list so its a moot point for me.

^Is there any other ride manufacturer you’d trust with a coaster of this height, length and speed?

Nope. It's the perfect fit.

I don't think Six Flags really have much to do with this project, Qiddiya just pay them to use their name on license.

Sounds about right. I was kinda playing into the folks who love to say things like "X park chain doesn't work with Z manufacturer anymore because they don't like each other" or some bulls4*t.

I am kind of curious about this, if that's truly the case where they're just licensing the name I wouldn't think that the Six Flags brand name would have that much value in that part of the world but then again who knows.

Interesting to at least get an update about this. I think many of us assumed this would be something that would just quietly go away.  Saudi Arabia is an interesting choice for a super world record breaking coaster that many of us will not  be able to get to, but I do hope this paves the way for more giant Intamin coasters around the planet!
