p. 235: Nemesis Reborn announced for Spring 2024!

Recommended Posts

Glad to read that they have removed the VR from this coaster. As if flyers were not slow enough to load to need one of these headsets.

And this will allow for guests to ride at least something else, since the park's operating schedule is limited to like 2 hours a day, which I guess is the estimated queue time Galactica normally had.

^Speaking of the operating hours: the park just released their 2019 schedule...

In March, April, May and June, Alton Towers closes at 4 p.m. on most weekdays. And even in a busy month like July, the gates close several times at 4 p.m. During the rest of the summer vacation, visitors have to settle for a closure at 5 p.m. or 6 p.m.

This is really getting ridiculous.

I’m sure if it made financial sense, they’d stay open longer. Must expect it to be pretty dead on those days. The question is how many potential guests are choosing not to go on those days BECAUSE the park closes so early, making the problem even worse.

I thought the park closing at 4 during my weekday visit in September was just because of the time of year I visited.

These hours sort of would force me to have to visit for two days if I go back because the park is so big you can barely do everything in one day.

DINGDINGDING! We have a winner! Multi-day stays are Merlin's target, hence them building hotels left, right, and centre instead of spending the money on ride/park upkeep.

I can't understand why anyone would pay admission to Alton Towers, then take an hour out of an already short day and pay an additional £7.50 to see what looks to be a very similar experience to all of the other dungeons. These actor-led attractions never seem very popular in Merlin parks, and I can't see how making it an upcharge will help at all. It will be interesting to see how long it takes before it's included on the annual pass, and how much longer after that before it is changed or dropped completely.

So I visited the part today after a long absence from coasters and I can finally call myself a season pass holder for a park. Got to ride the Wicker-man, (Which is incredible), The Smiler which seemed to be running rough and I got the chance to go on an old favourite in nemesis. Disappointed at the early closing time of 4 as it was a stunning day for coaster riding. However the pass is very good value for money to go back later and finish the rest of the park.

Merlin Entertainments has announced that "The World of David Walliams" is coming to Alton Towers in the Spring of 2020. This new land will replace the existing Cloud Cuckoo Land.

https://www.merlinentertainments.biz/newsroom/news-releases/2019/the-world-of-david-walliams/

Alton Towers Resort today announced a unique partnership with comedian, actor and best-selling author David Walliams OBE that will see some of his best-loved characters brought to life across the Resort from Spring 2020.

The project, centring around the existing Cloud Cuckoo Land area of the Resort, is shrouded in secrecy. But the theme park has confirmed that its ‘Merlin Magic Making’ creative team has been working with Walliams and HarperCollins Children’s Books for the past two years to develop a ground-breaking, unique headline attraction as well as bringing a number of other attractions and characters to life across the theme park and within the Resort’s hotels.

Construction work at the theme park began earlier this year and it’s also been revealed that nearly 100 specialists, from Alton Towers’ creative team and external experts in the latest theme-park technology, are working flat-out to meet the 2020 opening date.

David Walliams first shot to fame in the early 2000s with Matt Lucas in the comedy sketch show, Little Britain. He began writing children’s books in 2008 and has since published 12 children’s novels as well as short story collections and picture books. To date, David’s book sales exceed 33 million copies worldwide and he ended 2018 as the UK’s biggest selling author for the second year running.

“It’s a huge thrill for some of my favourite characters to be getting their own attractions at Alton Towers.” said David Walliams. “I can’t wait to experience them for myself, and from all the work that has gone in I think people are going to love it. All will be revealed next year.” DAVID WALLIAMS

“We are delighted to be able to announce our partnership with David Walliams on what promises to be a hugely exciting addition to Alton Towers Resort in 2020. David’s books have really captured the imagination of Britain’s children and their families. So it’s a huge honour to be working with David on this fabulous collaboration for 2020, the year in which we celebrate our 40th birthday as the nation’s favourite theme park.” JAMES WALKER, MARKETING DIRECTOR AT ALTON TOWERS RESORT

Alton Towers Resort has announced that Gangsta Granny: The Ride will open at the park in Spring 2020, as a part of the new area of the park,'The World of David Walliams." The Alton Towers Hotel will also debut four new Gangsta Granny themed bedrooms.

From ‘The World of David Walliams’, Alton Towers Resort today reveals the arrival of Gangsta Granny: The Ride in Spring 2020, a ground-breaking brand new family attraction that brings to life David Walliams’ most popular children’s novel. Published by HarperCollins Children’s Books, Gangsta Granny tells the story of Ben who discovers that his Granny is secretly an international jewel thief.

The thrilling new 4D ride experience will see guests join the main characters as they attempt the greatest heist in the history of the world: to steal the Crown Jewels. On-board a Royal Carriage, guests will set off on a Crown Jewels tour only to be caught up in Ben and Granny’s audacious adventure. The ride will whizz, twist and spin passengers 360° through a series of scenes where they will see, feel, hear and even smell an electrifying and unique re-telling of the Gangsta Granny story. Using state-of-the-art special effects, 3D projection-mapping and animation inspired by the artwork of Tony Ross, guests will descend with Ben and Granny into the sewers, be chased through the streets of London and even come face to face with the Queen: but will the madcap scheme succeed?

The fun doesn’t stop there: a whole area of the theme park will be transformed, inspired by ‘The World of David Walliams’. As well as Gangsta Granny: The Ride, the themed area will feature a host of other rides and attractions where guests can:

  • Pick up a crazy bargain in Raj’s Shop
  • Race on a regal thoroughbred on the Royal Carousel
  • Giggle with delight on Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp
  • Encounter other surprises and twists along the way

Not only that, fans of David’s books can also enjoy the ultimate sleepover with an overnight stay in one of four Gangsta Granny themed bedrooms in the Alton Towers Hotel.

“I’m absolutely thrilled that Gangsta Granny is becoming a ride at Alton Towers.” comments comedian, actor and best-selling author David Walliams. “I never imagined it would happen so it’s a real delight to see my characters brought to life in a ride. “I’ve worked really closely with the team at Alton Towers to make sure the ride is just as funny and exciting as the book. I think children and their parents … and even their grandparents! … are going to love it!”

John Burton, Creative Lead for Alton Towers Resort, said: “David’s stories are full of witty characters, intrigue and exhilaration so it’s been a fantastic challenge to build all that into a new ride experience. It’s the first time we’ve attempted such a complex combination of a physical ride experience, high-tech special effects and brilliant story-telling to ensure guests feel they are with Granny and Ben on every step of their adventure.”

To celebrate the announcement of Gangsta Granny: The Ride, and to acknowledge the amazing adventures that children can enjoy with their grandparents (who aren’t always as boring as they think), Alton Towers is also inviting children to bring their Granny (or Grandpa) for free in 2020. Full details and T & Cs below.

‘The World of David Walliams’ and Gangsta Granny: The Ride arrive at Alton Towers as the Resort celebrates 40 years as the UK’s favourite theme park. Throughout 2020, Alton Towers will be inviting guests to celebrate four decades of the ‘Power of the Towers’ to thrill, delight and create millions of happy memories for visitors. More details will follow soon.

A member called TYX on TowersStreet has taken a screenshot from a promo video that showed the layout for a second, and labelled the different sections.

It's not great, it's going in the old Wobble World building so they're limited in space and Merlin are not focusing on the theme parks at all right now, so the budget is basically zero too! As with everything these days I'm pessimistic but open to pleasant surprises

Does anyone have any experience with the availability of Uber to and from the park from Stoke-on-Trent? We're planning a trip and were initially planning to stay at the park but they close at 4:00 on Saturdays in late May for some reason so we'll probably just go back to London that same night.

God those hours are brutal...

I was able to find an Uber from the Stoke-on-Trent train station to Alton Towers. There weren't many Ubers available, but there were plenty of taxis.

To get back to Stoke-on-Trent, I recommend reserving a taxi in advance. There may not be any by Alton Towers. I stayed onsite at Alton Towers and the hotel booked a taxi for me that was waiting for me a half hour after park closing.
