bert goes to Texas Theme Parks (mega thread)

Recommended Posts

I think they're the exact same. I have no issue getting the lap bar down, but I run into issues where to put my feet. On a few rides, I've had the bottom part of the lap bar staple my feet which isn't the most comfortable position.

you need to sit in front row, not back. Front gives you space to allow for crossing of legs a bit more than the 2nd row, where the bucket seats really lock you in.

but yeah, the bottom of the lap bar does have that "foam" that comes down on top of one's legs.

^^Interesting, JJ has those side seatbelts too, though I've never seen anyone have an issue with them. Perhaps our seatbelts are longer or configured differently? Or perhaps I've just been blind, and there actually are walks of shame on JJ.

I think the lap bar is slightly different, with JJ having a more modern one. . but yeah, very similar design.

Gives me an excuse to post one of my favorite pics from the TPR 2018 USA tour:

we were only in the park for a handful of hours, and the only ride with a line was the spinning mouse (Rajun Cajun?). . so the Flash Pass was worth it just to skip that long line.

had fun there, as it was a new park to me -- but wouldn't have gone out of my way to stop there if hand't been with the group

^That's actually an awesome photo

I wonder when that video will go up

Are there ever people at Six Flags America?

The dry park can get moderately busy during parts of the year (I actually had a handful of visits where almost all rides ran two trains!)

The waterpark, however...

This is just one example of the insane crowds Hurricane Harbor can get. It's actually a fun waterpark when you're not in danger of getting trampled. Luckily that day I was only in HH to grab pics of the new Wahoo River

umm. . that's not really crowded (at least not for the Texas parks I've been to). see a lot of space there in your pics

I tend not to do the Waterpark, but the one at Fiesta gets PACKED. The Texas shaped wave pool full to capacity.

go back in this thread to the Labor Day trip to SFOT to read how crowded it was that day?

or this pic from late December at Fiesta Tx. . that's the Superman Queue. .it almost NEVER has a line past the stairs up to the station (a 10-15 minute wait)..this day? most all the switchbacks were full.

I was surprised how dead SFA was on our stop there (other than the aforementioned mouse).. tho some of the folks did go to the water park and said it was busier than the dry side.

IMG_6288.thumb.JPG.2ffe867a9a971bed39518645ad577062.JPG

this Superman queue was NUTS.. but I was there, and what else was i gonna do? so got in line and waited to ride it.

went back today, with the spouse.

more crowded than last time I was there, but not too slammed.

enjoyed the food, and the music.

and Pirates again which only had about a 10 minute wait - I think a LOT of folks don't know it's open!

While waiting for Pandemonium, which had about a 35 minute wait, as they are only cycling *FOUR* cars now (operators told me the 5th was out for repairs), we chatted with folks around us and mentioned we had just gotten off Pirates, and none of them knew what I was talking about. . .despite being right next door to the ride.

Even with the pirate characters still running about the boardwalk.

yeah. . they need to promote this better.

anyways, short TR up tomorrow with some pics. but overall? we had a really nice time, Pandemonium was the longest wait, and the food was delicious. (the Hurricane, while not bad, had what I'll refer to as "Applebee's Level Alcohol Content". . but hey, I got to keep the plastic glass)

till full pic report:

Pics from our trip to Fiesta Texas yesterday.

not the usual, full report, from me - since was just there ~2 weeks ago for Mardi Gras, so just a few bullet points and the pics.

-- Spouse went with me this time, so didn't intend to ride anything "big" sticking to things he'd go on with me.

Park wasn't packed tho more crowded than it was when I went the other week. Most things had 15-30 minute lines (even Rattler was only 1/2 way up the ramps to the station, and Roadrunner was actually almost a walk on, and was back to running 2 trains) . . longest line was Wonder Woman which looked to be ~an hour.

-- we were there about 3 hours and rode 5 things: Carousel, Pirates of Deep Sea, WaveRunner (Scrambler. . which was running a super long, and intense program!), Pandemonium, and Roadrunner Express.

We would have ridden the train too, but it was closed. We also ate lunch at the Mardi Gras food stands, listened to the zydeco band in Rockville, and met/took pics with a bunch of park actors. and yes, I counted 10 separate stilt walkers, but also a few actors & photo ops that hadn't been out my prior visit.

(If I had been alone, yeah, I would have simply waited for the bigger coasters, but he was willing to go, so was happy just eating, walking, and riding a few things).

-- I noticed it several visits ago on Goliath, but it seems to have spread to queues thruout the park now: SFFT is "holding" the line prior to the Flash Pass merge. So, for example, Pirates appeared to have a good 40 minute wait, as the line was in the outdoor queue, but that was only because the Flash Pass operator was holding the line there. When he eventually allowed 30 or so people in the outside line to go, we found no line at all in the indoor portion of the queue, and walked right onto the ride.

We saw the same thing happen on Roadrunner Express too..LOOKED like there was a line, but really was a walk on, just being held at Flash Pass merge. Not a biggie, I guess they want to make the pass a better value. .but just mentioning it for awareness.

-- as noted in the post above, the Mardi Gras drinks were't super strong - a bit too sweet. . .but the alcohol content was bout "Applebee's Level" and got to keep the themed plastic glass. .so that was neat.

-- Six Flags no longer offers bottled water 2/$7 in the stores -- something they have done for *years*.

the water is now 2/$10, and they add tax, so was almost $11 for the two waters. No, they have no pricing signs up, so a bit of sticker shock when I went to get the water for our lunch.

-- on related note, the Bottled Water (and Sodas) from the machines are now $6 each. (so still cheaper to get at a store and get 2 at once).

-- they have fixed the camera on Bug's White Water Rapids. We didn't ride it, but saw other's pics when getting the professional pics loaded onto my card at the Photopass booth, and commented that the flume pics were now crystal clear (and the guy at the booth said they had fixed the camera last week).

-- Panda Express has been removed from the park (it was in Crackaxle area), and signs are up that a "new" restaurant will be in that location called "Chop Stix" - that will be on the dining plan.

on to the pics:

IMG_6572.thumb.JPG.8169685461992e7917e4229cf97d8e38.JPG

first thing we see upon entering the central plaza? the baton twirler from the other week. .and she was still having a blast.

told her I posted a pic of her and that "Baton Twirler who DGaF is my hero". . she loved it and we posed for this pic.

IMG_6573.thumb.JPG.71cc606ac9c2d489583a6438e766b528.JPG

Then Nick posed with her partner.

we never did figure out why she was carrying the fake rifle. She wasn't twirling it or marching with it. . but it was so "odd". . we loved it.

IMG_6574.thumb.JPG.2ab0696327674f607c1688018408db17.JPG

Don't think I've ever taken a picture of this clock in Spassburg. . . and it nicely has Batman and Scream behind it (and was clear enough was able to get a nice pic). . so here's my hubby and the clock!

IMG_6575.thumb.JPG.b33804f3e68654c853b300bf5a8278ce.JPG

and then we met Lola and Bugs in Mardi Gras outfits.

no line for them, which was a surprise

IMG_6578.thumb.JPG.9cfeb710f4a3c56cadce797d9602404f.JPG

of course.

like we aren't gonna stop to ride this?? LOL

IMG_6580.thumb.JPG.732157980837810b411520eb9c156bbb.JPG

IMG_6581.thumb.JPG.2446b0355ead725d8814fca6bb2cf9bf.JPG

My lunch from the Mardi Gras food stands -- Jambalaya with corn bread.

it was good, but a bit dry. my solution was to ask for some "boom boom" sauce from the Boudin balls to be put on top (they were happy to do it when I asked), and it made what was 'good but dry" pretty dang amazing.

i was impressed.

IMG_6582.thumb.JPG.1aa7813c3ac4a269f669dd58a0f97cbd.JPG

Nick doesn't like spicy food, but they have these Roast Beef Sliders on the Mardi Gras menu too, and they were really good too (I had a bite). the Zapps chips (only in Voodoo flavor) come with any of the sandwich options (Cajun chicken po-boy, cajun shrimp po-boy, or the roast beef)

IMG_6583.thumb.JPG.6b3fdafd9aaab6ffee9bcfb3c08a0c89.JPG

My Hurricane. . a bit too sweet, but it did have some alcohol in it.

IMG_6584.thumb.JPG.eb47f1da6331faef36ef0bcc7d2a9179.JPG

and I liked the mardi gras theming on the "glass" I got to keep.

it was ~$10.50

IMG_6585.thumb.JPG.882ba622d26965cd78daa73f23781421.JPG

some characters that hadn't been out the other week.

"King" turned my hat that way just before the picture was taken, so I posed appropriately douchey :)

IMG_6588.thumb.JPG.4737ce7c08b746f214a597d4d49d6b66.JPG

and a new Photo Op set up

the throne is back out too!

IMG_6594.thumb.JPG.6b289fdc5bfd7a06d0afeda87b6884b0.JPG

got a nice pic of heading into Fiesta Bay Boardwalk. . can't see Wave Runner, but behind the palm trees is the Pirates of the Deep See, and the park's Ferris Wheel.

IMG_6595.thumb.JPG.ba6d43c9a7377d510285f8bd9d36ed71.JPG

in line for Pirates of the Deep Sea, showing some of the outdoor queue theming.

we didn't know this was really the only part of the queue that had a wait. we were on the ride less than 10 minutes from this as indoor queue was empty.

IMG_6596.thumb.JPG.54b69ed5dc690c6713805664a225000f.JPG

a rare pic I took of Poltergeist -- it actually has the train in it (LOL).

from the wave runner queue.

Nick thought he was photobombing - he didn't realize I was waiting for him to lean in to take the pic.

that's why the weird face he's making. . LOL

IMG_6599.thumb.JPG.ccac3dc3ce2d1b51eec215b5794a414b.JPG

More characters out. . we snagged a pic with them while listening to the zydeco band on the stage directly behind us.

no real progress on the update to "Gotham City Crime Wave" since my last visit. looks like really nothing has moved.

but from the far end looking over, some of the machinery seems to be in place.. so maybe they are about to start working on it.

IMG_6608.thumb.JPG.1d085c28ffb6ff57e003acb7c28afa14.JPG

Didn't ride this trip, but did notice this bright, shiny sign. With a much younger Superman on it.

not sure if they got a new sign, or just cleaned the old one :)

IMG_6609.thumb.JPG.dbde23230b19f3c2da27737fba45c911.JPG

buh bye Panda Express. . . I guess the employees won't be spending the day telling folks they aren't on the dining plan any longer.

IMG_6610.thumb.JPG.e3b6365fb99883eae1c80294ea12cbbf.JPG

how very Six Flags. . . heading out in the afternoon, what do I spot across the parking lot while walking to the car?

the giant ornament from Holiday in the Park. Just hanging out off to the side of the parking lot. . . LOL. . guess they didn't have the proper screwdriver to dismantle? :p

official pic from Park Photographer. . but I'll point out that I had to ask him to come over to here to take the picture (and then several folks lined up to get a similar pic).

you'd think the official photogs would hang out here?

tho the original pic is much better :)

because we sat in the front row of the back train, we had a fantastic ride (the smoothest I think I've ever had on Roadrunner).

but it made it impossible to get both of us in the photo frame! kept cutting Nick off, unless I made us bigger (too big for the train) and moved over.

but eh. . it's cute I guess

Nice report! Too bad about the construction, hoping that starts soon.

thanks, tho wasn't really expecting much/anything to be done since i was there just about 2 weeks ago.

what was interesting is how quickly they pulled down the Panda Express signage to start change over to the Six Flags branded restaurant. . it was up and operational just the other week!

  • 1 month later...

Went to the park yesterday, 3/24/19 and had a wonderful time.

figured it would be either slammed or dead, as it was the last day of "Spring Break" (they had been open daily the whole week).

started out overcast, and turned into a gorgeous day by about 3pm, but by then folks were already in the park or not. Ended up not being too crowded.

mostly will be photos this report, since I found a new spot to take pics from (under the flume near Lone Star Lil's exit), so got some interesting angles I'd not seen before.

I also made sure to get pics of the still nearly empty Bugs Whitewater Rapids queue, when walking thru. SO ODD that this, and Roadrunner Express are missing most of the Looney Tunes characters (that the rides are named after), tho the LT characters (including Pepe Le Pew, and Marvin Martian) were out and about in the park. so it's not a case of them phasing the characters out.

but here's what I posted yesterday in the SFFT thread:

took a visit to Fiesta today, and had a great time (Pepe LePew, and Marvin Martian were both out and about!).

I'll have a report up in the next couple of days, but some take-aways:

-- the fingerprint scanners are not being utilized at the front gates. they are now covered up with tarp, and they scan your Pass/membership with what looked like an iPad, then took a picture to tie face to the card.

I asked the staffer if they are no longer going to use fingerprints at all, and she said she thinks the scanners are going to be removed in the next few weeks. I asked if it was due to that "Mother didn't give consent for her child's fingerprint" lawsuit, and she said if she had to guess? that's the likely reason.

-- Chop Six is not open yet, but it looks like it's getting close. I suspect it will be open in the next week or so.

- apparently a change for 2019, but I JUST noticed it on this visit: Icees are now considered an option for "snack"

(so won't be standing in long A$$ lines at Johnny Rockets for shakes any more).

- they soft opened both the Train & Gully Washer, neither was planned to be back up until April from the maintenance

(I'm wondering if they opened those because Superman was down - was talking to a "Super"visor (LOL) at the ride entrance and he told me that it went down yesterday and they had fixed it but it was not opening today because they had to wait for an inspection. I told *him* Gully Washer was open, and he was surprised, but I showed him a pic I took of folks on it). Hurricane Force 5 was also down for some reason. With Hustler down for refurb, Whirlygig still in pieces for the retheme, and Joker not built yet?. . guess they needed to get more rides open ASAP)

everything else was operating.

(and the repaint on the Hustler "pool table" looks fantastic. no pool balls in sight, but the table, looked great.

anyways, on to pics:

IMG_6701.thumb.JPG.a1df08b05d38ae654385e1ffdd753f5b.JPG

day is starting off a little overcast, but it seems to be keeping the crowds away

IMG_6760.thumb.JPG.e9d86479cef94005aac857a0d15ab02f.JPG

new front gate operations - no fingerprint scanners anymore

9cadb0deab5a46619b46272bc359c7b9.thumb.jpg.420015685beecd740b85ecc88e062dbd.jpg

but hey. . they finally got picture frames for IR! Not sure what the heck that tower thing is, as it's nothing liek the design of the ride. . but hey, a picture frame. (this is back row)

GBMH3140.thumb.JPG.5b93891823c9ad5eefd0c54d8124337c.JPG

my 2nd time thru. . still was only station wait, but the design of the station is simply so bad, I don't understand why the Six Flags staff isn't THERE directing people, instead of two ramps down, holding the line prior to Flash Pass.

if you've not been in this station, the queue dumps out in the MIDDLE of the station. so anyone who wants to wait for Front or Back rows (which have extended queue you can get into once you're in the main station), tends to then block at this choke point, backing the line up, when there is plenty of space in any row.

Seriously, less than 2 minutes after this picture? I was on the coaster in row 2 (granted, sharing an open seat with someone, but still. .less than 2 minutes for front car).

IMG_6702.thumb.JPG.0c728e90193075c9851b6214d74a9365.JPG

when it's this light crowd wise? Head to iron Rattler first, even if Goliath looked like it had almost no wait.

IMG_6703.thumb.JPG.5efdeeea12b5df76aef422c5045c39bc.JPG

yep. . pretty much a walk on.

"Six Flags Professional Pic". . and it came out. . not as good as the pics from my iPhone 8

too funny . .and he had a "real" camera.

TWO PICTURE FRAME options! (so did one for each ride, this is 2nd row)

At least this frame looks like the actual ride.

still. .pretty good, from zero options to two options.

holding camera over the fences for a peek at "Chop Six"

looks like it's just about ready, wont' surprise me if it opens next weekend.

Gully Washer was up and running, which was a pleasant surprise, as the website noted it was down for maintenance and wasn't supposed to be up until April.

Not many takers when I walked by (I didn't want to ride it either), but by mid afternoon? it was pulling a healthy line.

IMG_6707.thumb.JPG.f69fcadac2f5e5d23c4e1586f30a7416.JPG

such a pretty park.

hey there

IMG_6710.thumb.JPG.3e10194b657540cf453f180548f406bc.JPG

the Train was up and running too (yet another ride noted on the website as down for maintenance until April, but was up and running).

they were also running the little castaways teacups ride across from the Carousel. First time I've seen it staffed and running in a long, long time. (maybe because Hustler is down for refurb?)

IR doing it's thing, with that upcharge launched thing.

they were only charging $10 a person for both this, and $10 for the zipline over (the closed) Superman. Both of them had lines of customers when I passed by.

I actually rode Zoom Jets. . LOL. . all the times I've been in this park, and I've never gotten on it.

it's fun, but it's Dumbo/Batwing/Jasmine's Carpets.

I also considered for a moment, riding the park's Roller Skater, as I've never been on it, and there was no line. But ultimately decided I'm not enough of a credit whore to care about it, so even tho it's neat in that it's built over water? I didn't bother.

Was getting hungry, but on the way, swung into Bug's White Water Rapids, to see if the Looney Tunes figures were back in the queue.

nope.

and the TVs weren't playing the Singing Sword cartoon either :( (in fact, they were all turned off)

used to be a Yosemite Sam as knight figure in this 1st room.

of course, after eating, had to ride the Carousel

surprisingly, some of the paint seems to be chipping already. . .still looks beautiful tho!

Construction seems to have started full tilt on the Joker: Carnival of Chaos.

wasn't planning to ride, but on the way out, peeked over to see the line - and it was non-existent around 6pm.

Great shots of your afternoon, Bert! Wishing Playland(PNE) was like THIS as a home park, heh.

it looks like i'm photoshopped in, in the pics at the end.

^ This, and I would like to add Six Flags:Mexico, too. Whatta great SF park, that was.

HA! Just realized the Mexico park and this one (and the other SF:Texas park) would make

a great (pardon) Six Flags:Tex-Mex Tour?

EDIT: Start in Arlington, fly to Mexico(City), then fly back to San Antonio.

I have nothing to do, in 2020 or 2021.

Looks like you had a great time! Still bummed that I missed out on Wonder Woman by about a week, but just an excuse to come back at some point. Just got to come up with some other excuse to travel for work!

you'll have Joker, Pirates, Refurbed Carousel, re-painted Hustler, and re-themed Swings as a reason to come back too

Great report! Fiesta Texas is the shining example of what a Six Flags park can be.

even with multiple rides out (and Superman closed all day), it was still a great visit.

they even have started putting in some of the live shows, before the "summer" daily openings.

I stopped in Los Festivales to watch part of the 80's "icons" band. They were pretty good, tho for someone performing Madonna, I was surprised to hear a song that was from the 2000's ("Hung Up") since she was dressed as 80's "boy toy" Madonna. . but I guess as long as she stayed in character. . .LOL

Yeah, I don't really expect any Six Flags park to be at 100% this early in the season. And lol at Madonna.... Six Flags always seems to treat shows as an afterthought anyway, so I'm just impressed they got that much right.

two points to keep in mind tho:

1) SFFT is a year round park now. so they've been open since Jan - and yes, that means that ride refurbs have to happen while the park is open (that's why Gully Washer and the Train have been down -- tho both reopened early. . and why Hustler is in pieces). Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed at how much was up and operating. If Supes hadn't shat the bed on Sat, it would have been open too. No idea what was up with the Disc-O (Hurricane Force 5) tho.

2) SFFT is well known as a "show park". I think it's the premier show park in the SF chain.

So it was a loss that they haven't been running shows thus far in 2019 (not after Christmas, even tho Holiday in the Park decorations were still up. . after 12/25 shows were down). Mardi Gras had live bands (on temporary stages), and parade, but no shows.

So I'm glad to see some of the live shows are slowly coming back. As we hit April/May, and they begin to open daily, I fully expect they'll be using all 6 theaters (2 indoor full theaters (Zaragosa & Rockville), 3 outdoor (Los Festivales, Crackaxle, Kidzopolis), and 1 indoor (Sangerfest Hall) stages.. not counting the large outdoor they only use for special occastions/concerts (Diamond Lil's amphitheater))

Bert where did you get the ride photo frames? Are they from the ride photo website and you can select them when downloading the on-ride pics? The photo of you taken by the staff member with the real camera is so unbelievably awful, clearly they had the wrong settings selected LOL! That little path you found sure looks pretty and definitely provides some nice views of the rides. I had no idea the train went through a tunnel flanked by waterfalls - how pretty!

heya Liz. .good to see you back posting again! hope all is going well (and belated Happy Birthday).

yep, the photo frames for the rides are on the website - I have them scan onto my card at each ride, and then the next day "download" the pics. once they are visible, the ride specific pics, have frame options (generic, no frame, six flags frame, character frames, and a themed to that specific ride frame). You can also add "Stickers" or "logos" to any picture before saving to your own computer.

Wonder Woman and Bug's Rapids have just one option, but Iron Rattler, Goliath, and Roadrunner Express seem to have two

I purchased the 2019 season photo pass, back in 2018 when they kept dropping the price. it was so cheap, it was nuts not to pick it up. . tho as we can all see, not all of the "professional" pics are what would be considered "Professional".

but I did get my fave pic in years out of it during our mid Feb visit. . and with the ride pics I get every time? yeah, was a great deal.

Hey, thanks for the bday wishes! Unfortunately things have been a little hectic to say the least. Now ski season is officially over so it’s back to coastering and chatting with my friends at TPR

We went to Utah to ski in Feb and I’m still sorting thru the 500+ photos and over 20 hours of GoPro footage but will have an album on FB soon. Ok this is your thread - enough about me!

I also have the photo passes for CF and SF parks since overall it’s a steal of a deal. However, I always have my SO download the pics and he never mentioned the frame options to me. I’ll have to take over that task! Thanks for mentioning it.

The photo of you and Nick is a framer for sure and more than makes up for that cracked out overexposed one from your last visit LOL. I never actually thought about the professional (erm, “professional”) photogs at the park entrances and such and their pics going on the photo pass. Ought to take advantage of that this year! You’re full of good info!!

  • 4 weeks later...

As noted in the SFFT thread. . Nick and I went to Fiesta yesterday (he was willing to go with me, since he forgot that Thurs was my Birthday and scheduled a Dentist appt. that morning - meaning we couldn't go out to eat that night after he had a procedure, and so we had to do my Bday dinner on Wednesday. So he felt bad, and was able to 'guilt' him into going with me for the first nice weekend in several weeks.

Knew it would be busy, but it was SLAMMED.

Combo of GORGEOUS Day (High 80's and sunny, after a bunch of nasty weekends in a row), School Choir Performances (so TONS of groups of bands/choirs in the park), and Opening Day of the Whitewater Bay Land (preview for Members from 12-3, then general entry from 3-7) meant for a packed, packed day.

we got there around 12:30 and stayed until about 5.

Didn't ride any coasters, and instead wandered around, people watched and stuck to things with short waits (which did NOT include food lines).

rode:

Train

Zoom Jets

Up Up and Away

Hustler

Pirates of the Deep Sea (me, while Nick sat. . this had no line at all, still. . think folks just don't know it's there, despite the park creating a photo op now near Rockville High)

and the Carousel.

it was enough and we had a great day.

Also checked out the new ChopSix food place, the bar, the progress on Joker: Carnival of Chaos!, the refreshed Hustler, and I took a stroll thru Whitewater Bay on opening day.

weird in that NO characters were out. maybe just too crowded for them today.

on to pics.. adding more specific comments beneath them.

IMG_6838.thumb.JPG.4a0f438bf49575f664f0ac47c4003010.JPG

yep.. lot is full.

They tried to direct us to the section way back on the right, behind the waterpark, but as we know better, instead told them we wanted to park closer to the exit, and parked near the security booth.

(still far back in the lot, but at least on the side near the exit making less walking for Nick, and easier to get out later).

IMG_6839.thumb.JPG.8d6e68a3b1f88b4caf4860409645f869.JPG

a peek at preferred parking near waterpark - this lot was completely full too

(Park had opened at 10:30, and this was 12:30 or so).

IMG_6840.thumb.JPG.3716a6234e2ff1da0b9a8f54a5c2af0f.JPG

we noticed a LOT of busses in the parking area when we pulled in, and there were large groups of kids in matching shirts milling around the entrance.

Turned out it was a Choir/Band performance - rewards trips. . so we saw groups from all over the Country here in the park. They looked like were having a great time, and for the most part were pretty well behaved (lots of chaperones, and had nice conversations with a few at different points thruout the day while waiting in food or drink lines)

IMG_6841.thumb.JPG.567cd4a10edcecaf0ace456f3954b8de.JPG

First stop? food.

Nick wanted Chicken Strips, so I told him to get in the line as we passed it, and I went on to see if ChopSix was open yet - and it was.

IMG_6842.thumb.JPG.e9eca676420aef72d116e649071242f7.JPG

REALLY nice job with the sign. love the dragon holding the lanterns, and bet it looks great at night.

we didnt' stick around until dark today, so didn't get to see it.

is this signage copied at other SF parks for the ChopSix restaurant?

It's a good location for it (near the train station in Crackaxle), and there was an abundance of seating (a large chunk of it covered by a big barn structure). they did a good job here, as easily found a spot to sit and eat, despite how crowded the park was.

IMG_6843.thumb.JPG.78bb301f0d1699ec767f446a3e534ddb.JPG

speaking of crowded:

about a 40 minute wait for food due to the crowds of kids, all with vouchers. which was only slightly longer than the wait Nick had at Totally Kickin Chicken (which was about 25 minutes). He got his food and met me by ChopSix. . and must admit, tho I had the salad (which was prepackaged), the food was pretty good. The fresh food others were getting around me, looked really good too.

Small menu with only 4 hot options (3 of them versions of chicken, and a beef with broccoli). which came with a choice of Fried or White rice or Lo Mein (tho everyone I saw getting the plate had both rice AND lo mein. . so either the menu is just a little misleading and the choice is only on rice? or they were doing it wrong.

only other option is a cold salad (which I got), that had sesame chicken on it and a teriyaki dressing.

Sides were basically: Egg Rolls.

but as noted, what I had was good, and it was on meal plan. MUCH better than Panda Express ever was.

IMG_6844.thumb.JPG.67a9ba8cad0551d963cd9a071ee69a81.JPG

we sat on a bench in the shade across from ChopSix with a nice view of Rattler's drop.

IMG_6845.thumb.JPG.5be128bc48278b07310ed1e9159cd08f.JPG

IMG_6847.thumb.JPG.664d0d8d608b875cb6935cc628d13f06.JPG

post eating, was time to let the food settle, so joined the large crowd at the train, and took a lap of the park.

IMG_6849.thumb.JPG.454cd60056f6df16a947a7bc723d059e.JPG

such a pretty park, and a gorgeous day. not a cloud in the sky.

IMG_6851.thumb.JPG.5003a2b145fc3ac791574924490a1650.JPG

what's this I see coming up behind Superman? any work done on Joker: Carnival of Chaos?

IMG_6852.thumb.JPG.9cdd476ac6124b101d9b31844e08664f.JPG

Yep!

They have completed pouring the Foundation, and Footers, for Joker.

This is gonna go up FAST now.

IMG_6853.thumb.JPG.99efa8163c1f8188ac740444a7dea6b4.JPG

slightly different angle.. was attempting to point at the concrete footer.. LOL. .sorry.

But my finger is now pointing at the "funhouse" queue for the ride (will get another view of it from the front in a little bit, but here you can see the "carnival" rooftop.

IMG_6854.thumb.JPG.02ccdc6d572c075310274b54e7dc9b4d.JPG

for some strange reason, Kidzopolis was D-E-A-D.

maybe because all the kids were in the waterpark section, and the older kids who were there with the bands wanted to ride coasters?

but I noted how empty the Kidzopolis rides were .. even tho not planning on riding the Roller Skater. As noted the other week, it's a really nice setting, over water, but it's still just a basic oval ride.

IMG_6856.thumb.JPG.928a0ebf152fcf7347489ccf5d395336.JPG

Iron Rattler doing it's thing, from the Train Station exit.

IMG_6857.thumb.JPG.81e7977d0e4531ec59f86129779a1d05.JPG

it's a little warm, and for some reason (again, maybe most of the crowd here today was simply too young to drink??) it wasn't very crowded. so we went in to Fiesta's main "bar"

IMG_6858.thumb.JPG.a0843c40596e9626aa9d450e872c57a1.JPG

$12.50, which is a little (ok, a LOT) steep.

but at least you can taste the Jack in it.

IMG_6859.thumb.JPG.6528124f161589b9ab933744ff7cd967.JPG

I wanted to get a picture of the tableside drink menus, but they weren't out. Couldn't find a waitress to ask, so either they discontinued that, and everyone now has to order at the main "bar".. . or they simply don't mess with it on super crowded days as too hard to keep track so folks don't order drinks and walk out.

who knows.. . these are a nice offering tho ($5 is a bit steep, but cheaper if you do it as a floater, so noted for my next visit).

IMG_6860.thumb.JPG.155244a62201f3a4ccbdbf3e9441da59.JPG

over at the main ordering bar, they have several things available on tap.

i'm not a huge drinker, and SFFT is no BGW.. but still, nice to see some options.

IMG_6861.thumb.JPG.a30d6291d1d13314d74eba7e265cd29e.JPG

the train we had gotten off of a bit earlier. . as we are walking towards Kidzopolis/the upcoming DCUniverse section

IMG_6862.thumb.JPG.4b8f780664e6e2cbb12049e3cdb91b91.JPG

lovely, lovely park.. even when crowded

IMG_6864.thumb.JPG.2254a69c5e16eac123e983177fc2dd4b.JPG

and Gully Washer was pulling a 2 hour line (Easily). . . they were loading rafts slowly too. . .

IMG_6865.thumb.JPG.b84d4cae54ed8cdac8da74d5c2d16dc3.JPG

but the hidden "squirters" are still there.

nice to see it running so well after the refurb. people were getting off it SOAKED.

IMG_6866.thumb.JPG.f8916174f56664bf91b7434f7ce596c8.JPG

stopped to get this pic, I've never taken before.

way in the background, behind Batman, Poltergeist is running thru it's track.

(that too, was posting an easy 1 1/2 hour wait)

IMG_6868.thumb.JPG.76385da3e0fa9aea66bf7394fa687a12.JPG

but as noticed from the train, the rides in Kidsopolis were empty. Seriously, Zoom Jets were walk on.

so I got Nick to ride it with me.

IMG_6869.thumb.JPG.aa2e825fe6757ecb2cfce8caab7868b8.JPG

IMG_6870.thumb.jpg.51e74437b22df1c961814c7d7d41721c.jpg

whee! (and as usual, when taking a pic like this, there's ALWAYS a kid behind us who will stare directly into the camera. . .LOL.. cropped the pic so I'm not posting her)

IMG_6872.thumb.JPG.49fd5fbc5f453adf9dad52b72c4f44d6.JPG

these are the complicated controls for Zoom Jets.

no really.. Nick had trouble figuring it out.. LOL

(push button in and hold to go up, release button to do down. hint: the steering wheels don't really steer).

IMG_6873.thumb.JPG.44b88a784bd2d34fbe4d2be876fa1590.JPG

wheee!

oh man.. looks like Bug's is drained?

Yep, Bug's Whitewater Rapids (Flume Ride) was down - looked like for refurb, as the flume was drained.

Wave Runner (Scrambler) was down too.. tho both are noted online as down, so maybe refurb for that too?

IMG_6874.thumb.JPG.c5e9c57c760ff1a0111a46d36fdd435a.JPG

since Nick was controlling the jet, I sat in the back seat and took pictures.

the ride does offer some nice centrifugal forces.. . so laughing while going around in a circle.. whee!

IMG_6875.thumb.JPG.1befcc856c43210631770427075c2022.JPG

and since Kidsopolis was dead, and the operators didn't care?

we went over and rode this too.

these USED to be Strawberries, if I'm not mistaken. no idea what the heck they are supposed to be now. . .they are all kinds of weird colors.

SUPER short cycle, basically up, then back down. but we giggled like loons the whole time, since it was such stupid fun.

from the pathway, can see the other side of Joker: Carnival of Chaos site.

from this angle (along with Superman), you can see them working on the "funhouse" queue for the ride.

no movement AT ALL on the re-theme of Whirlygig. . the pad is still sitting empty with only the remains of the "stalk" there, while the chassis still is over by Batman.

Hustler refurb looks fantastic, all bright colors, and running wonderfully. . tho in a typical SixFlags move, they didn't refurb the 8-ball that spins in the center of the ride. So that looks all dingy while surrounded by a vibrantly refreshed ride.

getting off Hustler, noticed this photo op now set up by Rockville high.

good to see them advertising this, but they really need someone out there pimping the ride - it had almost NO wait (once again staff is holding the line outside - for Flash Pass to cut in - but once they release to let folks in, the inside queue is empty. so in total I waited about 6 minutes for this.

Nick was starting to poop out and didn't want to ride, so he waited on a bench on the boardwalk for me and even commented on how quickly i was back.

oh..and the animatronic pirate in the queue? the mask is already starting to come off, and bunch up around the character's chin. it's really creepy looking, and wish i had taken a picture!

ACTUAL conversation from the 2 little girls (maybe 7 or 8) behind me in line:

"excuse me.. do you know if there's a ride in here? or is it just walking thru?"

me: yes, there's a shooting ride, it's right around the corner

"is there a charge for it?"

me: no, it's part of the park that's included with admission. you'll like it, it's fun.

"is it scary?"

me: no, it's not scary, it's a fun ride

"oh, because that guy back there (points to animatronic) was scary!!!"

:)

of course we had to ride the Carousel.

tho it was so crowded, I couldn't get on my rabbit :( (the group on front of us in the queue made a bee-line to that part of the carousel and hopped on the rabbit).

So instead I rode a pig.

but Nick rode with me, and the lady on the horse next to us was kind enough to snap this pic for me.

this woman.

yeah, that's how she rode the whole cycle!

and the Six Flags staff did not catch it, nor say anything to her.

never seen anything like it on a Carousel ! (she was "watching" the kid she's facing, but was on her phone the whole ride.

me on a piggo.

Nick's body was giving out (since he *refuses* to appear weak and bring his cane with him for walking long distances. . .so I sat him on a bench in the shade in Los Festivales, and I went ahead to checkout White Water Bay on opening weekend for the season and get some pics.

Fiesta really does have a fantastic water park "land" - it's HUGE, probably the biggest section of the whole park.

even tho we're not really water park people, i'm sure we'll come hang for the lazy river, or the wave pool.

not on opening weekend tho..it was packed.

IMG_6898.thumb.JPG.f005367af72f9baa47a6842d6999830a.JPG

of course, it's so big, the crowd tends to spread out, so it never LOOKS super packed, but trust me.. it is (this is right at the entrance)

looking at folks in the lazy river, from the bridge over it into the main waterpark section.

should mention if you've never been to White Water Bay - expect to do a lot of walking (as noted, it's big, and spread out), and also expect to get your steps in - LOTS of steps/bridges to move around, and that's not counting the steps to get up the platforms to the individual slides.

remember what I said about steps?

Still haven't gotten to the wave pool/tornado/water coaster area - that's still up ahead, this is the section of the waterpark to the left

in here, the food lines are even longer than out in the main park (the Tidal Wave Cafe is behind the Texas shaped wave pool)

looking out over the wave pool, to see the Water Coaster on the other shore of it.

(and a kiddo looking directly into my camera.. oh well).

the new-ish cabanas they have built overlooking the wave pool (that can, of course, be yours for a few hours if you're willing to spend some $$$)

they got me with this shirt on the way out! it was being advertised in the front of one of the stores, as a Passholder special -- and sure enough, with my pass scanned, the $18 shirt, was only $8.

I don't really have any Fiesta Texas shirts (other than Wonder Woman), and I really like the design on this, so went ahead and grabbed one.
