As you can somewhat see (I didn't take a great photo I know) You can somewhat see some rides that are going to come this season.

As confirmed: Water Mania will be replaced with a pirate ship attraction named "Coney Clipper"

Power Surge Is no longer there

Magic Bikes will now be in the back of the park

A new interactive ride will be in front of the park

And behind Endeavor will be a drop tower, the name will be "Astrotower as a homage to the original Astrotower

You can see the new park map when coming in from the boardwalk

With the $5 wristbands, the park got pretty busy today. I'll take the added crowds in exchange for unlimited Cyclone rides and saving some cash.

We arrived around 2 and only had to wait about 15 minutes for the Thunderbolt. I know the ride isn't well liked here, but I really like it. It still shuffles a bit, but it isn't rough and has a nice combination of airtime and hang time. When we returned arojnd 5:30 to reride it, the queue was full and stretched all the way back to the water.

The Scream Zone was busy. It was hard to skip the Slingshot since the ride was included, but I saw about 75-100 people in line for a ride with a capacity of 2 people. We waited about 40 minutes for Steeplechase. We skipped Soarin' Eagle but it appeared to have equally as long of a wait.

The main area was a madhouse. People were shoulder to shoulder everywhere and the line to buy tickets stretched down the boardwalk. We skipped this area.

The Cyclone was the star as usual. It was nice to be able to reride it without having to shell out cash each time. Even with the queue spilling out into the street, it didn't take more than a half hour. All but one of our rides were in the back car and the coaster was running incredibly well. There wasn't a single rough spot and the airtime was terrifyingly awesome.

The one thing I found deceptive was the lack of advertising by the Cyclone about the $5 wristband. Many people were just buying $10 Cyclone tickets instead.

I've just seen the full park map, and if the drawing is anything to go by, you guys are in for a treat. Astro Tower will be a Zamperla Flash Tower, and these things are ejector airtime machines!

Check it out guys. The advertisement for the Astrotower, it's gonna be $7 to ride and its high thrill. If you're wondering why isn't Endeavor running, it's because of the construction for the Astrotower

That makes sense. I was wondering why it was down opening weekend when everything else was open. Looking forward to trying out one of these Flash Towers someday since they look quite a bit better than that old one at the WWE Niagara.

Ok so I rode the Astrotower for the first time and I got to say it was fun, wasn't much of a drop, it was really, coney clipper was fun too, a lil high but fun, all other ride was great to, Thunderbolt was rough, and my seatbelt came undone during the air hump was I was holding on tight AF, the light was beautiful though, Zenobio was amazing as always. Even though Luna Park is great for hours of fun, I DO NOT recommend working for them

Spent some hours out at Coney yesterday, mainly to check out the aquarium's new shark exhibit in the morning. We didn't do too much in the way of rides since the weather was absolutely sweltering but the kiddo and I did get a chance to ride the new Astrotower. This ride is pretty much all about the view. You get an awesome view of the beach, boardwalk, and parks as the entire tower rotates around. As far as the drop goes... this has to be the first drop tower I've ever been on that has no "drop tower" feeling. It felt like someone had their foot on the brake the entire time. You got a couple bounces which was the only point at which you felt any g-forces whatsoever, and then the entire program repeated a second time.

If you're willing to part with 7 credits just for the view, then by all means, go for it, but if you're looking for thrills, skip this one.

Coney Island’s Luna Park expanding with log flume ride, zip lines and ropes course

image.jpeg.5b4a6265f3709d2079c8e236bb2c9dc5.jpeg

Coney Island, already known for its thrills and chills, is about to get a little more adventurous. A sprawling log flume ride, zip lines and a rope course will be constructed on vacant land between Surf Avenue and the boardwalk, between West 15th and West 16th streets, amNewYork has learned. Pedestrian plazas featuring food, arcade games and seating are set to rise on two other streets near the boardwalk.

image-2.jpeg.62f7d1ba63e474d6682a98e527c1968f.jpeg

Central Amusement International, the operator of Luna Park, was picked to develop the property under a 10-year lease agreement with the city. The adventure park is expected to open next summer, with the water ride to follow in 2020. Alessandro Zamperla, president of Central Amusement International, said developing the city-owned sites will expand Luna Park by 50 percent from 300,000 square feet to 450,000 square feet. “We are adding new and more exciting attractions, but also enhancing the atmosphere by adding more places where you can just sit and relax and enjoy some shade,” Zamperla told amNewYork.

The city’s Economic Development Corporation solicited proposals last year for the property between West 10th and West 16th streets, which totals 150,000 square feet. Three of the parcels were city-owned and two were purchased from private owners.

image-3.jpeg.1c3f4f1b4b807c1b2d8e04ff50bacb1a.jpeg

Zamperla called the custom-made log flume a “magnificent attraction” that rises 40 feet high with spectacular ocean views and colorful lights. And then there’s the 30 mph drop from the peak. “Blow it up big like the Jersey Shore, now you’re in business,” said Donnie Manetta, 35, of Staten Island, while visiting Coney Island on Wednesday. “You can’t stop — keep growing!” His eight-year-old daughter, Gianna, was excited by the rendering of the log flume. “I want to go on that!” she exclaimed. “Definitely a water ride I think is needed,” said Long Island resident Cindy Marquez, 36, who said she brings out-of-town family members to Coney Island when they come to visit.

The ropes course will be open to people with different skill levels, Zamperla said. The most ambitious can scale 34 feet and then descend on a zip line.

Alexandra Silversmith, executive director of the Alliance for Coney Island, which represents businesses including Luna Park, said the new rides could attract new visitors. “There are a lot of people who are thrill seekers,” said Silversmith. “We are missing some of the more adventurous rides and experiences here.”

Silversmith also said developing the parcels eliminates an eyesore and provides a more seamless experience for visitors. “We’re pleased they were chosen, because they were successful with Luna Park,” said Eddie Mark, district manager of Community Board 13, which includes Coney Island. “The plans look very nice and should fit into the area.”

City Councilman Mark Treyger said he was happy to see empty lots being used and that the renderings show CAI using historic Coney Island style in its designs. “As you walk through the amusement district, you see these areas of inconsistency,” Treyger said. “You see areas that are lively and then these areas that are derelict and collecting dust.” A self-described “foodie,” Treyger said both local residents and visitors have been looking for more food options in the area. “I’m a fan of pedestrian plazas and where families can walk around and enjoy the area,” he said.

Zamperla said the company is focused on honoring Coney Island’s storied past. “We want to re-create the magic of Coney Island and bring it back to its heyday,” he said.
