ThemeParkJunkie51290
Trip Report (April 9, 2016): Hola! I'm glad you took out the time to check out my trip report! Thank you so much! I've been trying to get to Kings Dominion for a very long time, and decided that 2016 was the year I make my first visit EVER! I'm glad I did because this park was beyond OUTSTANDING and SUPREME! The atmosphere was wonderful, and I truly felt welcomed at this park. The staff was FRIENDLY and everyone ENJOYED their jobs! I love to see park employees who take PRIDE in their work. It TRULY does make a difference in customer service! I heard that operations weren't too good at this park, but that must of been a joke. Rides were being dispatched QUICKLY! There's a reason for that though: IT WAS HARDLY ANYBODY THERE! But also, IT WAS COLD! It wasn't freezing cold, but it was COLD! LOL! But that's a great thing considering the weather didn't turn out as badly as it did. The weather was supposed to been in the low 40's, snow in the mix, and 30% chance of scattered rains throughout day. That doesn't sound to good, now does it? But the weather turned out GREAT! I wasn't going to go at first and wait till Sunday, but all the locals told me that's the best time to visit because it will be less crowds. True enough, THE PARK WAS DEAD! Majority of all the roller coasters and thrill rides were opened with the exception of the water rides(of course), WindSeeker, Drop Tower, Hurler(closed for the season), and Dominator. I cried just a little because I needed that major coaster credit. LOL. The only reason it was closed was because maintenance was working on it all day. Oh well, maybe in the near future. But overall the park was BEAUTIFUL, FUN, and SUPER! *Roller Coasters: Hurler: Closed for the season(I still wanted that credit). Anaconda: This roller coaster was actually tolerable! It wasn't the smoothest, but it wasn't rough either. Backlot Stunt Coaster: I really enjoyed this roller coaster! Especially the part when you go underground! Amazing! Dominator: I cry every time I think about this coaster not being opened on my visit. I'm crying now as I type. LOL. Flight of Fear: I rode this roller coaster TWICE! I've always enjoyed indoor roller coasters. They seemed to be more intense in the dark for some reason. Grizzly: Fun, entertaining, but wouldn't ride it again. I just needed the credit. Intimidator 305: Of course I had to ride this coaster TWICE! I blacked out twice and it felt great! Now that I've ridden all three giga coaster in the US, I can finally say that . . . I want say just yet. LOL. Rebel Yell: One side was running, but I still enjoyed this ride. Ricochet: It was your typical wild mouse, but it was a fun ride. Volcano: The Blast Coaster: Yes! Yes! Yes! I'm glad this coaster was opened on my visit because it was truly INTENSE, FUN, and ENJOYABLE! It literally was a BLAST! I recommend this ride to anyone visiting Kings Dominion. YOU MUST RIDE! Avalanche: Bobsleds roller coaster always provide a different ride from your typical coasters, and I must say this ride was fun. Woodstock Express: Even though this was a junior coaster, it still provided a great ride. *Thrill Rides: Berserker: The hang time on these swinging ships are beyond word description! It felt as if I was going to fall out, and that's what I like about these rides: the UNCERTAINTY of not knowing. LOL. Always thrilling! Delirium: This new attraction for 2016 was a great addition to the park! The airtime was AMAZING! Drop Tower: Closed(I wanted to ride considering it's drop is longer). The Crypt: I always skip these types of rides. Why? I don't know. WindSeeker: Closed(I wanted to ride so badly). *Family Rides: Boo Blasters on Boo Hill: The theming on this boo blaster was amazing! The ride itself was fun as well because all the targets were working! Eiffel Tower: Amazing views of the park from up top, but EXTREMELY WINDY! *Water Rides: Shenandoah Lumber Company: Closed(too cold). White Water Canyon: Closed(too cold). *Extra Attraction(s): Dinosaurs Alive!: Most people would skip this attraction, but I love them! It's a fun way to escape the park and take a nice stroll 65 millions years ago. LOL ENOUGH READING, IT'S TIME FOR SOME PICTURES! ENJOY! You can't hide from me! Yes! I've arrived! Hello there! Such a beauty! I see you back there I305! Oh . . . this isn't Six Flags! Look at me all dressed up! Lovely! Yes! It was cold! What do we have here? Amazing hang time Why are you closed!!! Curses! Love it! Well . . . look at this! So spooky! LOL! Who doesn't love Planet Snoopy? Nice ride! Snoopy! I will! Pretty, yet cold! The jungle awaits! . . . Or safari! YES! AMAZING! The show was great . . . but I skipped this though. Me again! So . . . another ride used to be here? Rightt . . . . . Good! I love it! I see you! Something's going on in there. ???????? I'm coming! Yes! Amazing view! I blacked out twice! Just pure AWESOMENESS! Yep! The sign says all! Not the smoothest, but not rough either. Amazing! Next . . . YES! Of course I had to get these guys! "I stand to protect." No water park today. Well . . . too windy. Oh . . . so that's the name of this place. Never been on a Ferris Wheel. So I make the attempt and . . . "Sorry, no single riders." Well . . . I tried. Closed as well . . . too windy. One side running . . . it was still a fun ride. Why must they close you when I come?! FUN! Such a unique entrance. "I will fight to the finish!" I love this! You're such a big guy . . . or lady. LOL. What could be through here? I see . . . Time anyone? Yes! Fresh, new ride! LOOK AT ME . . . AGAIN! Didn't eat here sadly. PRETTY! Hello there! Part 2 coming very soon!

SoCalJasonland
Awesome trip report. Its cool that it didn't look to busy. Haunted River was the partial water trough near Volcano and it was removed to build the coaster.
Henry M
Great Trip Report. Shame about all those rides being closed, maybe next time, hey?
coasterbill
TOO COLD You don't need this type of negativity in your life. It's never too cold for Shenandoah Lumber Company.
cfc
It's too bad that Dominator was closed, but you're not missing much when it comes to Hurler.
TBpony414
Nice TR! Seeing as KD is my home park, I don't typically take many pics when I'm there. It was neat to see the day through your eyes! You'd be wise to ride the log flume no matter the weather bc you barely get spritzed but more importantly, coasterbill will jump through the interweb and ban you from all parks if skipping flumes continues! Volcano is one of my favorite rides anywhere and I'm glad you took a spin on Avalanche too. Bonus points for touring Dinosaurs Alive! I love it and the setting is fantastic. Haha Great report and really good photos. Still have yet to visit what I like to refer to as King Dom.
theredskull84
Thanks for sharing this great report! And fantastic photos as always. It really is too bad that Dominator was closed for your visit. Definitely one of my favorite Beemers.
ThemeParkJunkie51290
I finally made it safely back home from Virginia! Driving 12+ hrs back to Alabama is very tiresome. LOL. I'm glad my fellow theme park junkies are enjoying my trip report! Thank you! My next trip I'm planning is Kentucky Kingdom. STORM CHASER HERE I COME! Great report, though I am sorry you missed out on Dominator as that is one of the best rides in the park.
cfc
^Yes, the top three are I305, Dominator, and Volcano (in that order--at least to me).
coasterbill
^Yes, the top three are I305, Dominator, and Volcano (in that order--at least to me). I think your autocorrect must have changed "Shenandoah Lumber Company" to "Dominator" by accident. ... weird. Those 2 phrases aren't even remotely similar. cfc
Has dominator always been located there? If you're referring to just Kings Dominion, yes--it has always been in that spot. Otherwise, see post above.

I wanted that coaster credit for Dominator badly, but of course it would be closed on my visit. As for Grizzly, I rode once, and Woodstock Express was great! I had to position my legs a certain way because they're long. LOL. This park is beautiful and I highly recommend a visit here for anyone who've never been. cfc
KD does have a pretty good set of flyers--definitely worth riding (it's even on Fast Lane).

John Peck
Being an avid "flyer' enthusiast, I felt that Kings Dominions were absolutely perfect when i went in October. I was able to snap that thing every time... coming down and going up. Not sure if there was a no snapping rule, I didn't see one and nobody said anything to me besides compliments.
