Onto carowinds park.

Our next park is carowinds park right on the boarder of north and south Carolina. As a matter of fact, half the park is in one state, and the other half in another. We spent 2 days at this park and really did enjoy both of the days. For both days, we bought the all day dinning plan and it was worth every penny. We ate most of our meals in the new Harmony hall. They have a great selection of food and some great tasting ribs fresh out of the smoker.

I also have to say that fury is in my top 5 now. I would rate it slightly better than millennium force due to the forces and different elements of the ride. The rest of the park was very nice as well. I was able to score a thunder road farewell pin that they were handing out at the exit of the ride. The other rides I was impressed with were afterburner and Intimidator. The rest of the coasters(besides hurler) were fun but cookie cutter.

The landscaping in the park is very nice, and has plenty of shaded areas. What is it with the frogs all over the place in this park?

Onto the pictures....

Our drive to the park was beautiful.
Summertrip2015 003.JPG
We took the tunnel!
Summertrip2015 006.JPG
After that great drive, we have finally arrived at our destination.
Summertrip2015 008.JPG
Pick a lane
Summertrip2015 014.JPG
The new entrance area reminds me of cedar points.
Summertrip2015 015.JPG
The park reside in 2 states

Noted....

Our first stop

Summertrip2015 030.JPG
Lots of fury swag to be had

B&M is on a roll
Summertrip2015 144.JPG
Summertrip2015 019.JPG
The new Harmony hall was a great addition to the park. I was talking with a manager, and she was telling me that this was a prototype for the other parks. I would love to see one of these at cedar point.
Summertrip2015 020.JPG
Lots of air conditiond seating inside
Summertrip2015 022.JPG
There are lots of food selections inside
Summertrip2015 156.JPG
Here are a few of the choices
Summertrip2015 157.JPG
This place had some great ribs
Summertrip2015 158.JPG
Summertrip2015 159.JPG
You can even make your own salad.
Summertrip2015 023.JPG
In the mood for an adult beverage? They have that covered as well.
Summertrip2015 057.JPG
You see...this is the problem with the world today.
Summertrip2015 045.JPG
One last look inside Harmony hall brings us to this scale model of the parks old entrance
Summertrip2015 048.JPG
Summertrip2015 047.JPG
Never knew the park had a train ride.
Summertrip2015 034.JPG
This old school arrow coaster was not too bad.
Summertrip2015 035.JPG
It goes right over the midway like cedar points
Summertrip2015 032.JPG
Seemed like a popular ride
Summertrip2015 039.JPG
Believe it of not, this boomerang had no headbanging due to differant harnesses. How come more parks can't go with this type?
Summertrip2015 041.JPG
Summertrip2015 231.JPG
Summertrip2015 230.JPG
Decent ride, but VERY slow crew
Summertrip2015 066.JPG

Summertrip2015 073.JPG
Summertrip2015 081.JPG
They had a tribute out near the coaster
Summertrip2015 082.JPG
Summertrip2015 089.JPG
The park has a fun, but short mine ride coaster
Summertrip2015 096.JPG
Summertrip2015 097.JPG
Most of this ride is underground
Summertrip2015 105.JPG
Summertrip2015 116.JPG
This stand up coaster was next on the list.
Summertrip2015 118.JPG
Vortex had a short layout
Summertrip2015 119.JPG
They were only running 1 train today
Summertrip2015 135.JPG
Summertrip2015 079.JPG
Nothing going on here. Looks like a good spot for a dark ride.
Summertrip2015 136.JPG
I love this shot of the drop tower and sunset
Summertrip2015 088.JPG
Sigh.....
Summertrip2015 017.JPG

Here are some more from Carowinds park.....
Summertrip2015 051.JPG
One of the better inverted coasters out there.
Summertrip2015 054.JPG
Afterburn doing it's thing thru the trees
Summertrip2015 055.JPG
The cardinal train. The other train is a shark.
Summertrip2015 080.JPG
This ride has some pretty intense moments.
Summertrip2015 269.JPG
One last look at the rides station.
Summertrip2015 272.JPG
The park also has a dino walk thru. We did not see a single person doing the attraction while there.
Summertrip2015 062.JPG
Spinny ship ride. Fun ride, but not very cumfy
Summertrip2015 112.JPG
My least favorate ride in the park
Summertrip2015 113.JPG
Summertrip2015 128.JPG
First drop
Summertrip2015 133.JPG
Summertrip2015 132.JPG
Station shot. I believe that there used to be waynes world props in this area when Paramount owned the park.
Summertrip2015 161.JPG
The hawk of the night
Summertrip2015 124.JPG
Summertrip2015 170.JPG
This ride is another sloooow loading ride
Summertrip2015 260.JPG
I guess as far as vekoma flyers go, this one is the best. It has a double corkscrew at the end opposed to the inline twist.
Summertrip2015 107.JPG
Summertrip2015 259.JPG
Sigh.....I am such a credit horror
Summertrip2015 043.JPG
Fun attraction, but another line that crawls.
Summertrip2015 203.JPG
This ride had no name
Summertrip2015 206.JPG
Old school.
Summertrip2015 209.JPG
Looks like they need to grease the ride up a little
Summertrip2015 213.JPG
Mouse coaster time
Summertrip2015 036.JPG
Maybe later, line was too long
Summertrip2015 229.JPG
Typical mouse coaster with a few drops added in

My daughter had a dragonfly land on her finger while waiting for the ride.

Summertrip2015 220.JPG
Dueling lift hills.
Summertrip2015 263.JPG
Windsleeper doing it's thing
Summertrip2015 240.JPG
One of the shows that the park has to offer
Summertrip2015 265.JPG
A park staple. This one had a cool light show.
Summertrip2015 212.JPG
I like the decor in this area of the park.
Summertrip2015 279.JPG
Furys lift hill at night.
Summertrip2015 173.JPG
Summertrip2015 181.JPG
This ride looks amazing at night
Summertrip2015 282.JPG
Not the best picture, but the park has a nightime show near the entrance.
Summertrip2015 277.JPG
As far as I know, they are the last park with the snoopy night time spectacular.

Sidewinder (the Boomerang at Hershey Park) has the same restraints as the Carowinds Boomerang and they are awesome. I wish all the Boomerangs would change to these restraints as they are very comfortable and they completely eliminate the head banging.
Coaster Count: 228 Last Coaster: Iron Rattler
Top Ten: 1) Superman The Ride 2) Millennium Force 3) X2 4) Skyrush 5) El Toro 6) Twisted Colossus 7) Maverick 8) Shambhala 9) Lightning Rod 10) Mako

I didn't know that. We passed on the boomerang at Hershey last time we were there.

Here are a few shots from our day in the mountains on the way to kings Dominium. We spent the day traveling down the blue ridge parkway, and were even able to eat breakfast in a restaurant with a great view of the mountains.
Summertrip2015 285.JPG
Coming into the mountains.
Summertrip2015 286.JPG
I would highly recommend driving down this parkway if you get the chance. The views are awsome.
Summertrip2015 288.JPG
It was a bit hazy the day we were able to visit.
Summertrip2015 287.JPG
Lot's of cool tunnels on the road.
Summertrip2015 290.JPG
This was our view from our table at the restaurant. Again, it was quite hazy
Summertrip2015 292.JPG
They had some killer blueberry pancakes

Here is our clan
Summertrip2015 322.JPG
There were lots of pull offs on the parkway to see things like this.

Here is our next stop.

This is a really nice report thus far. The I-81/Blue Ridge Parkway corridor is one of the two or three nicest drives in the entire US in my opinion. Everyone who might be traveling in the area should really strive to take a portion of their trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway and/or Skyline drive.

Where was the restaurant where you had the blueberry pancakes?
