Walt Disney World Epcot Discussion Thread

p. 118 - EPCOT Destination D23 news roundup!

^ I have no issues at all about the removal of Malstrom. It ran it's course and is going to be replaced with a ride that will draw in the GP like flies to sugar.

As for me, I can wait. I'm suffering from a touch of the Frozen burn out. I love the film, but i need a break from everything Frozen related right now.

My issue isn't with Maelstrom getting replaced, because lets be honest, that ride never had a long wait time... My issue is something as big as Frozen may be getting shortchanged with this ride. For instance, I see the "Let it Go" scene being much grander and more epic than what's pictured. It seems way too enclosed.. Again, just my opinion. I understand that Disney didn't expect the movie to be a huge as it is, so they're quickly trying to get ahead of it, but I just saw a much grander attraction for this IP. This also may set a record for longest wait times.

For me the biggest thing that wasn't great about Maelstrom was that it was a super duper short log flume. Because of that it had no real story. So this ride will have the same ride track and length, and also won't really be telling a story but just showcasing the characters. I hope the effects are really cool, but color me more excited for Kong, Mako, and Cobra's curse...and the world's tallest rollercoaster, and maybe star wars and toy story attractions if they're actually happening...and that potential water-coaster at Volcano Bay...and even Avatar-land.

Even though it's just concept art it looks like the boats are the same as before with no added capacity, eh, I'll guess we'll just have to make sure we get a fastpass for this one! I wonder how Epcot will incorperate this into their Fastpass+ program, maybe it would be great if this were a tier B attraction so that you could have a fastpass for Soarin/Test Track and this in the same day but I got a feelign the demand for this thing might say otherwise.

Before it closed, Maelstrom was actually in Tier 1 IIRC. No reason to think it won't go right back there when Frozen opens.

"EPCOT is not about cartoon characters"...

People who have a thing against animation probably shouldn't be visiting anything with the name "Disney" on it.

My guess is that there will be a grander version of any Frozen attraction at Tokyo DisneySea--which is par for the course. That being said, I'm looking forward to seeing what Disney does with the old Malestrom space.

^ Maybe they could/would add that as part of the Meet & Greet building, being built beside Maelstrom?

It's (apparently) such a huge building they're putting up, it wouldn't surprise me, that if there was more than

just the Greeting Area for Anna, Elsa et al, they could fit in something like this.

Tokyo DisneySea already confirmed that they're building a whole section themed to Frozen/Scandinavia. They haven't announced a new ride yet but I have no doubt it will blow a Maelstrom redo out of the water. Especially if the concept art is even somewhat accurate.

Still can't wait to see this new ride!

I am also curious whether they are keeping the reverse flume part of the ride?

And if so, by the sound of the ride description, it should happen when the other

trolls are met - like before, but not so angry, heh.

Or will they rebuild it, turning it into a completely forward traveling flume?

I heard a rumor that the entire load and unload area is being totally reworked. What I hope is that they condense the load/unload area into the space that was the old unload area. Like every modern ride, keep them in the same spot. That would free up everything past that for new scenes and story telling.

Taste Track, a new food and beverage location at Epcot, is serving up a few new twists on the favorite sandwich. These specialty grilled cheese sandwiches are as creative as the cars you can design at nearby Test Track.

For a deliciously grown-up version of the grilled cheese sandwich, try the Gruyere and Applewood smoked bacon. Elevate your sandwich with the Fontina and tomato basil version. For a sweet take on the classic sandwich, try the Canadian cheddar and apples grilled cheese sandwich on cinnamon raisin bread. The crisp apple slices perfectly complement the melty cheese.

Each sandwich comes with your choice of tomato bisque soup or a side salad. Other menu items include roasted chicken salad and a kid’s grilled cheese sandwich.

Which grilled cheese sandwich are you excited to try? Let us know in the comments below!

Those do look great! Love a good gourmet grilled cheese! I like using Hawaiian sweet bread, pesto butter, applewood smoked bacon myself. Needless to say, appreciate the food coverage side of TPR.
