Kentucky Kingdom (SFKK, KK) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I have never been to the area so sorry if I seem slow. Do I have to buy admission to the fair to get to KK?

Yes you will need to pay, 10.00 admission, to get in the Fair. You can buy tickets at Local Kroger stores for 9.95 for KK, 19.95 at the fair. Be prepared for a BUSY day, the first weekend of the Fair is CRAZY. In the past KK was free admission, you used tickets for the rides and the park was usually busy on the weekends. Don't know how it will be this year with separate admission, hope you have a great time, at least you'll have plenty to do with the Fair going on.

So I have some family in Louisville, and they posted a link to the following this morning:

My 8 year old son was assaulted while attending UPS day at Kentucky Kingdom today! While standing in line waiting for the ride Lightening Run, him and his step mother were attacked after she asked a woman not to cut in front of them in line. My 8 year old was punched in the side of his head and his step mom was hit from behind and knocked to the grown where she continued to be hit. When security arrived, all they did was escort the group out of line and let them walk away. They did not do any documentation or get the names of the people to attacked my family. When police showed up, they informed us that there was nothing they could do as far as filing charges or a report because Kentucky Kingdom did not do what they were suppose to do by getting the names of the individuals! So now my family has no way of pressing charges for the assault on my child by an adult. I would like to think that a park that is suppose to provide a fun and safe environment for families should be able to do just that! I am beyond let down by this park! I am contacting you in hopes that you can help spread the word about this incident and make sure it doesn't happen to another child or family! Thanks

The comments section below the posting is full of other people describing the less than friendly nature of many of the park's patrons and the lack of response by park staff or security. If KK can't get a handle on park security, they aren't going to last very long this time around.

Several people pointed out that this sort of thing was why they went to Holiday World and loved it.

^^ sadly ever park has these issues especially when you are near a major city like Louisville. However I do agree that security should of handed that better and at least held them till police arrived.

First of all, whoever the person was who attacked that woman and her child is an idiot. People like this need to be locked up immediately.

Second of all, Lol, the guy spelled 'Lightning Run' wrong. But seriously, I can understand line cuttiing (I don't accept it, but I can tolerate it), but hitting someone just because you don't want to stand in line is just stupid. Some people are just so self-entitled.

Is there a Kroger within walking distance to the fair?

Never mind have to get tickets by the 13th.

There is a Kroger across Cardinal Blvd, walking distance from gate 4 of the fair. You can get tickets to KK everyday of the fair at Kroger, discounted tickets for admission to the fair are only available til the 13th. I have been thinking about going Saturday, I'll know for sure tomorrow, if I do I'll send you a message. I could pick you up at your Hotel and run you by Kroger, because they are offering free parking with shuttle by Kroger.

I went to the park today and had a good time. I was pleasantly surprised with Thunder Run and thought Lightning Run was a great little coaster. My thighs do have slight bruising. I just don't understand single train operations when two are available especially on a Saturday. I can't wait to see how the park progresses over the next couple of years.

They started up the second train later that day, and crowds dropped a little once it started raining. I'm convinced that a lap on Thunder Run and Lightning Run (or most other coasters anywhere else) in light rain can never be matched to a normal lap! T'was awesome!

  • 2 weeks later...

It's a fairly fun show, and something I'd recommend catching to get your full-day's worth out of the park.

I went by the park yesterday and spotted Travel Channel filming with their hosts at the base of Deep Water Dive for Xtreme Waterparks. It was pretty interesting to see, and I was a bit surprised to see how small the crew was. Can't wait to catch that episode!

Since a lot of parks are gearing up for 2015 announcements, what are everyones thoughts about what were going to see/want to see with the park next year?

I would like a new show or two instead of the seals (just to mix it up; the seals were awesome!) and a new 5D movie. Maybe they could have a daily show in the amphitheater, since they're supposed to bring that back. Enterprise *should* come back next year (fingers crossed because its one of the best flat rides around). The river rapids ride was good from what I remember. I know I got VERY wet on it, and the sewer theme was cool. IDK if they're going in a different direction with it, but the loading station is obviously a water works building, so I don't really get how they're going to change it to a river ride.

T3 will obviously be the big star. I hope they give it a cool two tone paint job (black with red rails would look great IMO). It was a pretty rough ride, but I've heard good things about the new trains, so I've got hopes. I think Vekoma SLCs have a cool layout.

What else could they have up their sleeves? Maybe a new flat? Something eventually has to replace the drag racers. I'd love to see one of those Delirium rides that makes a full circle, or maybe a new midway with some new games, food and a smaller flat ride or two (wishful thinking I know!)

They are selling their 2015 Season Passes for $ 59.00 until the end of September and it states they will have 6 new attractions next year. We already know of 3 things for next year T3, Raging Rapids and the Amphitheater, wonder what the other 3 will be? They said the Sea Lions will be back for next year.

I assume the fourth one will be the enterprise. The fifth and sixth attractions are still up in the air - it could be anything from two new flat rides to a new movie in the 5D Theater and something else.
