Shanghai Disney Resort Discussion Thread

p. 45: New Zootopia details!

The more I keep seeing about this park the more insanely awesome I think it looks...

...l just only wish it wasn't going to be built in China. Call me totally skeptical, but of what I've seen of the mainland China parks, I don't think this park will ever be kept up like it's US, Japan, or even Hong Kong counterparts. I see this going the way of Disneyland Paris, which is a REALLY REALLY REALLY nice park...just too bad it's in France and hasn't been as well taken care of as you would like a Disney park to be.

I hope I'm wrong. Because this park looks amazing!

PS. TPR China 2016 tour. Happening. Mark it on your calendars!

This makes me insanely happy.

Those glass mosaic look stunning, I just hope the new Pooh ride is based on the TDL resort version. With Robb on this every time I see something about this park the more brilliant it looks.

I share your concern--but hope to be pleasantly surprised.

At least we don't need to worry about it too much if we visit in 2016

Sign me up for this tour! Hopefully it would not be as credit whorish as the previous China tours, some really nice coasters are under construction right now. Finger crossed that Lewa Happy World will open on time.

  • 2 weeks later...

Something I didn't notice before, until now.

On the scale model of the castle and area in front of it,

you can barely make out the "Partners" statue, there.

Walt and Mickey. In Shanghai. Cool!

Here's the original model. And there down near the bottom, in the middle there...

...Is (probably) the "Partners" statue! Very nice location, at least in the model. (o:

^ Not from me. I keep searching and searching online, for any photos I can find of construction. And the only thing so far, that I've found, is the "Official Vertical Construction Ceremony" pix a few pages back. Disney is being (to me) somewhat successful in keeping hush-hush with this, on actual photos being released. And I suppose getting out to the actual site itself, isn't easy. The public transit station(s) hasn't been built and opened yet, so that doesn't help.

Hopefully, somebody over there will be able to post something.

Or Disney will finally release some on-site photos, soon.

In the mean time...patience.

(Or maybe we'll be given a nice Chinese New Year's gift of photos! )

News from Disney & More about current construction at the park...

Chinese medias announced that major structural work on the first building of Shanghai Disneyland, the part outside the park to be named "Disney Town" and which will house the resort's retail, dining and entertainment area was completed on Monday:

"Concrete was poured into the last section of the roof structure of the building near the central lake of the resort in the Pudong New Area that is scheduled to open to the public by the end of 2015. "The building will host a variety of dining and entertainment options for guests while offering stunning views of both the lake and Shanghai Disneyland's Enchanted Storybook Castle," an official with the resort said.

The retail, dining and entertainment area will initially be comprised of a 46,000-square-meter pedestrian-access area and will be located next to Shanghai Disneyland, Shanghai Disney Resort's Magic Kingdom-style park. The area will offer guests unique opportunities to enjoy Chinese and international dining, shop for special Shanghai Disney Resort souvenirs and see world-class entertainment.

"With something for everyone, this festive venue will be a "must-visit" for anyone living in or traveling to Shanghai," the official added".

First building onsite, topped out.

What it will eventually be turned into. The area is located to the left of the

grand promenade that leads to the main park's entrance, and beyond to the castle.
