cfc
I was more interested in Takebisha, the Haunted Hospital, and the Thomas Town area (I missed the last two back in 2007). The Hospital certainly had atmosphere to burn, but it did need more scareactors.
Nrthwnd
^ My "Fuji To do-List" consisted of Haunted Hospital (did it), the Thomas Land Dark Ride (did it), the "coffin attraction" (nope - removed and replaced with kids' fun/playhouse), Takabisha (done), and the rapids ride (not done - still too big a queue for it, at the time). Â And we did whatever David wanted to do in the park, which included The Hospital. Having gone through it now, it makes me wonder... If there were more scare actors in it, and the crowds going through it were bigger, might there be Total Japanese Chaos in there? The couple behind us, kept catching up bit by bit, and they sounded totally freeked out by it all, even without actors around. So we picked up our pace to lose them, lol. Â Maybe the Japanese don't need a lot of scare actors around to make them feel.... scared. I mean, there are all those "sound attractions" we kept running into. They definitely love their "atmosphere", heh heh. Â ^^ And thanks, Neil! Â (EDIT to add: I included a pic here of our own local Haunted Mansion at Playland {upcharge - $5}, which also includes only a couple of scare actors, and is a fairly long walk through. And it's just as intense for myself, as The Hospital was, even with no actors around us. It's a good one, IMhO even with the upcharge. Definitely worth a group visit. And before it turned into this, it was our original Laff In The Dark ride building!) I will only go through it, with at least one other person hanging on to my... belt, LOL! Nrthwnd
Day 1 at TDLR ~ Tokyo Disneyland  So much has been reported on the Disney Resort here at TPR, it's kind of hard to up with new "stuff" to show. But, I will do my darndest...  This was also our first morning having breakfast at the Tokyo Hilton's great buffet spread (the previous morning we were way too early for breakfast there, heading to Fuji-Q; so we bag lunched it, lol). It didn't disappoint, with all it had available, including Japanese breakfast goodies. But we stuck to mostly western-style foods. Also, there was this wonderful display of marzipan food, animals and flowers at the entrance to the restaurant. Really beautiful creations.  After breakfast, we headed out to Tokyo Disneyland. We had a four day pass for the parks, but with TDLS, the first two days are specific one day for each park. So Elissa usually gets us into Disneyland first, then Disney Sea the next day's visit. The other two days, we can park hop. It all works out great.  Basicially, we started in Tomorrow Land, getting fastpasses for Monsters, Inc. "Go Hide & Seek", then up to "Pooh's Hunny Hunt"m and after that "Big Thunder Mountain". A good meal was had at the Queen of Hearts' Banquet Hall (wonderful themeing all around us, inside.) And we continued around to Adventure Land, took the "Western Railrod" attraction...  And then decided this was the time to take a short break back at the hotel, and we came back to the park a few hours later, around the dinner hour.  It was a great start to our days here at Disney Resort. Breafast first, at the Tokyo Hilton. My second trip to the buffet, I decided to get more carnivore about what I picked. And the salmon there was delicious! The marzipan display at the entrance to the hotel's restaurant. Just beautiful. A statue in front of the Wedding Chapel at the hotel. On the monorail, and almost there. It's the resort's 30th Anniversary! Looking back, into the World Bazaar. The only covered Main Street of any Disney Magic Kingdom! Besides the resort's birthday celebrations, there was a Japanese holiday being celebrated as well. And a LOT of notes were being written up and attached to and around this object/tower. Pooh's Hunny Hunt - still an awesome and fun ride. And one of the group, Erwin, managed to get a pretty good photo of the two of us in Huny Hunt's queue. Thanks Erwin! Photo at Big Thunder Railroad. (DbM) Ending this posting with a look at the footprint that Big Thunder occupies. It's amazing how they fit it all in, there. Taken by "someone else" and kept in a folder on TDLR I had. Thanks Someone Else!

Nrthwnd
Tokyo Disneyland, cont. Â Like I said previously, after we'd eaten in the park, and toured around some more, we decided that a mid-afternoon break was needed. And it took us less than 20 minutes (!) to get back to the hotel, put our feet up, have a cocktail (or three) and rest up, before heading back into the park. Â And after we did... well for some reason or other, I didn't take any more photos that day! I think I just wanted to enjoy the evening at the park without constantly snapping photos, etc. So I gave the camera a rest, and that was that. Â Here's the rest of the photos taken that day, before we monorail-ed back to the Hilton... Starting with where I left off last post, the mineral pools around Big Thunder Mountain, (DbM) All in it's 30th Anniversary balloon glory! In line at the Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall, this couple was outfitted for plunder and treasure-ing. Arrrrrrrrr. Then there was this Fabulous Princess with some stroller "support" for the dress. Our meal at the Banquet Hall. A few of the meals we had in both parks, were big enough (for us) to share. And save some $. The all-important castle shot. Do we look alike? I don't think so. My hair (and beard) is much fuller than Davids, lol! (o; But that was okay. We got attention and some 'fan photos' taken, here and there. What to do with uneaten popcorn... Speaking of Fan Photos. This group cornered me to to take their pic. Then the ringleader of the group (on the left, there) wanted her photo with me. by herself. And she was pushy! So, I agreed. Then I saw the pic... ("_____________________") Make up your own caption. And at the monorail station, to head to the hotel, I snapped a pic of David, in front of the Only Purple Trimmed Section of the Disneyland Hotel. Don't know why I like it. I just like it. Edited September 4, 2013 by Nrthwnd
Nrthwnd
Next week, I'll be posting about our second day at TDLR...  Tokyo Disney Sea  And here's a photo taken from that day....er....evening we were there. Not the usual Mt.Prometheus shot, hmmm? This is taken of the 1940s American Waterfront "land" of Disney Sea.
Nrthwnd
Day 2 at TDLR ~ Tokyo DIsney Sea  My absolute favourite of the two Tokyo Disney parks, Disney Sea, is one of those one-of-a-kind Disney theme parks, that throws out the castle ( ! ) and starts from scratch to create a unique and totally different theme park experience. That fact they spent a billion bucks or more on this one is clear to see, from the second you enter into it. With Mt.Promethus in the middle of it all, lol.  Unfortunately, but only for a few hours, it looked like we were going to be "in theme" at this park - rain had started early in the morning, so we picked up a couple of those cheap plastic rain coats (ugh, the heat in those things) and took them along. But we never needed them, so that was a blessing. (And they fit rather 'tight' too.)  I took my time with getting to everything, as this was David's first time there, my third. So I didn't want to rush him through anything that might catch his eye, etc. We started at "Toy Story Mania" - closed for maintenance - did Hightower hotel (of Terror), and then took the great (and often overlooked) overhead trolley ride to Port Discovery, trekked into the mountain for a ride on Journey to The Centre of The Earth, and then headed to the back for some Indiana Jones & Crystal Skull fun.  While David was snapping photos, I did the single riders line for Raging Spirits coaster.... and it - was - a - mazing! So smooth as glass, I couldn't believe a coaster could actually feel like this! And the OTSR were like being hugged by a puffy sofa chair. So after we got back together, I convinced David to try another inversion (Disney Paris' Indy coaster did him in, several years back - no inversions since)...and he loved it! So that was a success I wasn't expecting, for him.  A late lunch at the Yucatan Base Camp Grill for BBQ (was good, but not as good as other places we ate at in the park), then we worked our way back to the front of the park, and exited (with re-entry stamped on us) for our little 2 hour+ rest at the hotel... Ah....oh dear... oh my..... precipitation. Did not look good for us. So after breakfast, we bought the rain coats...and then didn't need them, lol! Breakfast was still as awesome as always, at the Tokyo Hilton. On the way out, to the monorail, I took a pic of this aarangement in the other restaurant used for breakfast. Uh.....ok. "Monorails Around the World" at our Bayside Station. And Vancouver's EXPO 86 monorail was in the photos too! (its's now running at Alton Towers). Very cool to look at. And I can see you in the distance there, I can. Almost there. Disney Sea is actually the first stop from Bayside Stn. Woo hoo! We're in! And because there is something closed at Disney, I have to show my "dis-approval" of it, hee hee. (Same went for Mark Twain Riverboat and Space Mtn.) Some say, that this is one of The Most Beautiful Bathrooms ever created for a theme park! Did look lovely from the outside. Didn't need it though... I had a second thought, and decided to get us both in a "closed for now" photo, heh. And it does look great. From the outside of it. Next visit (I hope). Our tour awaited. And the tour did not disappoint. See? After our tour, we headed up stairs to the overhead trolley station, to get a ride to Port Discovery, and the back of the park. cfc
Tokyo's Big Thunder always looks so huge to me when I ride it that I had no idea they had crammed it into such a small space.
Nrthwnd
^ Yes, I came across the "over view" photo several years ago, and was really surprised how the foot print worked, with the rest of the layout of the surrounding area. Â And then I saw the track of the Western Railroad, winding around it into... the building. (no spoilers) Â I know it wasn't one of my own photos. But I thought it was still cool enough to share in my trip report, especially with those who did the tour with me, this past summer. Â (EDit to add: To actually compare the two parks there, I find that Disneyland is the "Blackpool of Tokyo", that is, they find the space to accommodate everything possible in the park like Pooh, and Monsters and ..... Disney Sea still has lots of space to expand, and the initial park feels so relaxed, and laid out awesome, and easy to go through. And then all the original themeing - definitely adult-in-mind.) Nrthwnd
Disney Sea, cont... Â At the back of the park, we rode Indy, Raging Spirits, Jasmine's Flying Carpets (beautiful setting; way better that Disney Paris' version), Sindbad's Storybook Voyage (my all time fave IASM-like attraction). Lunch at the Pilots Grill, and then covered as much as we could, before heading back to the hotel for a break. Â And of course, one more ride(s) on Journey and The Tower of Terror, before the hand-stamp and exit... On the overhead trolley, heading to Port Discovery, there's this beautiful view from it. We're in the huge entrance building queue of "Indiana Jones and The Crystal Skull" attraction. It's really something to see. The themeing is amazing here. (DbM) We liked this. (DbM) After Indy, we split up for awhile. David on his own, liked taking shots of the lush landscaping in the park. (DbM) We loves our purples! (DbM) David headed into Mermaid Lagoon and took a few photos inside, "under the sea." (DbM) Gift Shop! While David was doing that, I was outside strolling around, enjoy all the views of the park. Mt.Prometheus. The rockwork is amazing, up close. Under this (or the gift shop) seemed to be the best place to meet back up with David. Before heading back to the hotel, I found one of the several '53's found in both parks. It's my birth year AND the year "Disneyland" (the ABC sponsored TV show) debuted, to help spread the word of Walt's "new park" opening a couple of years later. Cool! World shot, before exiting. Back at the hotel - the souvenir haul is growing, thanks to (mostly) Disney!
Nrthwnd
~ Tokyo Disney Sea at Night ~ Â After we came back from out hotel break, David wanted do "Storm Rider" . I had done it on two previous visits, so I let him do that and I visited other parts of the park, and single rider on 'Raging Spirits" ("I tell ya, smooth as glass!"), before meeting up for something to eat and more night time touring. Â The "Fantasmic" show that was done every evening in the park's front harbor was being scaled down for showing. Meaning the winds were up, so the fireworks used in the production weren't used. We didn't want to see it until it could all be seen, so we skipped it this night, hoping our next two nights would be better, with calmer skies - and no rain, of course, lol! That seems to affect these "water shows" too, believe it or not. Â Here's the night photos we took... David's visit to Storm Rider produced this pre-show shot. (DbM) The is was my shot of Raging Spirits. Always loved this use of water and fire. Then later on, David took his shot, Hmmm, he's getting good with this camera of his... (DbM) I did a distance shot of one of the many lovely blue minarets in Arabian Coast. And David took his shot of one of the largest minarets, covering the two level carousel. (DbM) For our evening meal we headed into Casbah Food Court, for some curry. And it was great! We had a two-curry plate between us,and we had to get extra naan bread it was all so good. We also decided the meat curry trumped the chicken, lol! (Note David's new light-up Mickey.) A "busy shot" of the Port Discovery area. Storm Rider was to the right; the overhead trolly station was ahead of us. Of course, we had to do Aquatopia at night. Cool lighting effects on and in the water. There was a lot of blue in there. This is the right side of it. A more clear and un-fuzzy shot of the attraction. Looking over to American Waterfront, circa 1940s. Big ship (the Columbia) in back, there. My fave big band show, the signs all lit up. A typical night lights table in this park and Disneyland. So many pretty lights to choose from.... A lit up reminder of what we're celebrating at the Resort. (DbM) And a last Disney Sea World shot of the evening, before getting back to the hotel, and calling it a night. Nrthwnd
Before I start with our first Park Hopper Day at TDLR this coming week, I wanted to share a photo of an area of Tokyo Disney Sea, you may not know. Â Or you may know exactly where it is. But here are your choices, lol.... Â A) Exit stairs from The Terrace second floor restaurant, with balcony views of the park. B) Exit stairs from Jasmine's Magic Carpet Ride. C) Exit stairs from Sindbad's Fairytale Voyage. D) None of the above, damnit! It's ________________. Â Worth a guess, hmm? For a second I had to think what it was, that David had taken a photo of, heh heh.. So? Any ideas? I'll tell in next week's posting. (DbM)
Nrthwnd
Day 3 at TDLR - Disneyland in the Morning... Â So today we finally had our park options opened, being able to combine both parks into a day's visit, or lopside it and do it like we did: the morning spent at Tokyo Disneyland. And the rest of the day.... Â We actually left a good number of the main attractions on the "left side" of Disneyland, all of Adventure Land, and got all of them done before we headed over to Disney Sea. Â Pirates of the Caribbean still had Jack Sparrow hiding here and there in the ransacked town. And it was still as it always was and is: a really great attraction, after all these years! Â I always enjoy the Western Railroad, and as many of you know, it's not actually a full park circuit train. Seems the Japanese Gov't would tax the park if the train had more than one station, making it (sort of) public transport. Which is taxable. That's why the monorail is a separated ticketed thing - it's transportation with more than one station. Anyway, the Japanese still wanted a train ride, so Disney made it an attraction unto itself. With some really nice scenic spots, including an overview of Splash Mountain, completely around the Rivers of America and then...... (no spoilers) It was great to ride it again. Always a fave with me. Â Below the train station (it's elevated) is the loading dock for the Jungle Cruise, we then did that with an absolutely IN-SANE GUIDE who pretty much bantered non-stop, and about as Speedy Gonzales as humanly possible! I taped a minute of his banter as we came back into the dock area. Will post later. But this was IMhO as fun and crazy as the Jaws attraction at Universal Japan. Lots of Japanese - much drams - overcooked reactions. Really silly and fun. He was great. Â We didn't do the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse (remember them?), as it was way too much (at the time in the building heat and humidity) to walk up and down for us. Seems the locals didn't visit it much either. Rarely a crowd in it, and no line up ever seen. So that was an easy pass. Â And finally took in the newly (to us) created attraction of the Tiki Birds....and Stitch. Now it wasn't really a bad show, with this Major Change. Buts till, I did miss the original program, in Japanese too. I mean, the original all built up to awakening the gods and causing lightning, wind, rain Big Weather. Not, its' just to 9eventually) reveal Stitch in the middle... and it's practically done. Eh. Will be passed next visit. Â So all of that done, a turkey leg on the go, and we headed over to that other park..... Breakfast done, and Mickey to wish us well on our 1st Park Hopper Day. Back-of-the-Castle view. Bet you don't see this shot too often... Look! Another 53! Sweet. On the train engine of the Western Railroad attraction. And - our jungle cruise vessel arrives. Hi Val! And this was our ever bantering, non-stop over-acting guide. Awesome! (DbM) Group meal. (DbM) Open air shower, with a great view! (DbM) I think this is where Stitch was hiding out. "In The Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room". (DbM) Side-view-of-the-Castle. There it is. As we were leaving TDL we ran into The Alveys! So we did a group shot with Robb being as.... 'animated' as he always is. And Elissa being sweet, as usual. I love everywhere Disney puts flowers. And shade, lol! And this was taken just after we arrived at TDS. More to come... CoasterFEV
I always enjoy the Western Railroad, and as many of you know, it's not actually a full park circuit train. Seems the Japanese Gov't would tax the park if the train had more than one station, making it (sort of) public transport. Which is taxable. That's why the monorail is a separated ticketed thing - it's transportation with more than one station. Â Quick question if anyone knows the answer - because I was trying to figure this out when we were all in Japan this Summer and no one seemed to know the answer: Â I'm familiar with the age-old legal requirements in Japan that had (forced?) Disney to design the railroad with only one station and to charge for the monorail. Â But.... Â If the "any train/transport with more than 1 station must be charged/taxed" rule is applicable - then why does the Tokyo DisneySea Electric Railway have 2 stations and why is it free? Â It's an honest question that I really don't know the answer to and hoping that someone here can assist with. Â Thanks!
Nrthwnd
Hmmm. ^ I have no idea about that, Dan. And you are right about it being a two station transport. Â Maybe they found a loophole? I know this sounds silly, but maybe because it's a back-and-forth kind oftransportation, and not a circular route...? Â Anybody know the reason for non-taxation? I'd be curious to know, myself. Â EDIT to add: And then there's the dock-to-dock route of the water transit boats, between Mediterranean Harbour and the Lost River Delta. I guess they'd be also subject to taxing, but don't seem to be.
Nrthwnd
Day 3 at TDLR ....Disney Sea in the Afternoon. Â And back to Disney Sea we went, after getting all of our Disneyland attraction-riding done! Â Spent most of the afternoon strolling around, took the steamer transit from the Mediterranean dock, which is a 1/2 circuit ride, unloading at the Lost River Delta dock. The dock at Cape Cod affords a "full circle tour" of the park. Really a wonderful way to see the entire park from the water, without stopping. Â Eventually, we made it to one of the afternoon showings of Mystic Rhythms, a really great show with water...and FIRE! This will be in my next posting..... So now we're back... where do we head first? But there's always time for a good photo, with someone you know. (o; David loved this ship. I always have, too. (DbM) Goofy doesn't get enough fan love. )o: Met this young Duffy Fan in line for beverages at the Base Camp Grill. Man, that's a lot of bears! This is the entrance to the Grill...and cocktails! We finally took a turn on the Flying Carpets. Really beautifully set and themed all around it. Kitty, kitty, kitty.... (DbM) Of course we couldn't miss another round with Sindbad. It's really a beautifully put together story and attraction....with banana smells! (DbM) Happy genie, out of jail, jamming with Sindbad. (DbM) Then there's this lovely scene, that leads into... (DbM) Happy Whale meet-up. (DbM) Part of the Finale. Loved how they did the fireworks, here. (DbM) And for those who wanted to know... The answer is C). These were the exit stairs from the Sindbad attraction. (DbM) Nice landscaping here. Now, you'd think with some of the money they make here, that this 'leak' would FINALLY be taken care of? (o; That's the back of Storm Rider show building, too. View From a Bridge - Lost River Delta Dock. And beyond! Nrthwnd
"Mystic Rhythms" at Disney Sea  I had seen this show before, in the previous TPR visit (2011). But back then, we were just in time to grab seats, and ended up waaaay on the left of the stage, half way between the front and back rows. Needless to say, we missed a lot of things that went on on the left of the stage. So this time, David and I got great seats practically at the back of the theatre, but in the middle section, with a full view of the stage, the lighting, the musicians - everything LOL! Great seats, we felt.  I also asked the cast members working there, if it was alright to take any photos of the production? The answer was "Yes, but please no LED light." So, I parked myself in the absolute back row, no one behind me at all, and used a kerchief I had to 'drape' over the view screen, kept the camera in a fixed position and snapped away when I felt like it. Most of the shots are blurry it's true, but other turned out not too bad.  The story is one of nature working together. Earth, water, wind, fire. Reminds me of a rock band. Hmmm.... Some nice mini-Cirque du Soleil acrobatics through-out the show, and some great effects, including a diving pool under the main stage, that kept appearing and disappearing when not needed. David in the back of the theatre, Overhead lighting. Lots of stuff to climb, onstage. The musicians are housed in two raised "huts," one of which you can see on the left of the stage. The band was awesome! It begins.... Best - Final - Curtain - Ever! Cast bows. And acknowledging the musicians for the awesome soundscape.
gisco
I haven't seen that show yet. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there the last time I was in the park. I'll have to make a point to check it out the next time I'm there.
Nrthwnd
^ We actually lucked out with seeing "Mystic Rhythms", because it had been down for maintenance, up to the Friday of the tour. Our staying an extra couple of nights at Disney, made it possible to see the show on it's return, that Saturday. So, it worked out for us, and it was a great show to see again. IMhO, I have found all of the shows in Disney Sea much preferable to repeat viewings than the shows at TDL. This one, Big Band Beat, even the Little Mermaid Show. All good enough to see again...and again, lol.
Hilltopper39
Every single time I look at a trip report from Disney Sea I found a new attraction of some sort that I had no idea existed and this show has filled that void. Nrthwnd
^ That's why I love repeating the visits to this particular resort, and especially Disney Sea. After the attractions, there is all this atmosphere to enjoy...and no Fast Passes needed, lol! Â I got to do that, a lot on this visit, through David's eyes as a first-timer, and myself looking for new stuff to enjoy. Â And I still haven't gone onto and explored that (*%^# GI-nornous ship docked right beside the American Waterfront! And then there's Magellan's Fortress and all that's in there... Â Next visits... Nrthwnd
~ After the MR show - and back to the hotel ~ Â So after we saw this great live show, we just meandered back and forth through the park, got on a couple of attractions we wanted to re-ride...and then, eventually, picking up valued Fast Passes for attractions after we came back to the park, after our couple of hours' break at the hotel room. So after "Mystic Rhythms" is over, it's just natural to explore around the Lost River Delta. Trekking back through Port Discovery, I got a day time shot of the outside of the Storm Riders attraction. It's quite the use of a "mass simulator", honest! And the wing-ding itself, gets my attention. I love the "airiness" of PD. Harnessing water and wind. Very cool. A Disney Sea Dude. One legged too! So one last look, for now.... The Globe with The Themeing... It's a BFF KIMONO Con! Really,so many colours & patterns squished together, lol. On the monorail back to the hotel, we passed by this lovely sculpture... Which is opposite where the amazing CIRQUE DE SOLEIL show, ZED happened. Sadly, it only lasted less than two years. The bldg.is empty now. (I saw the production in 2011) Back to where our tour began - the Room 653 View. And the parking lot IS filling up. Eep. But we come back with future treasures, ARRRRRR! (Too early for "Talk like A Pirate Day"?) The soundtrack is still amazing. Worth finding and buying. After a while, I sent David down to the lobby level to check out a wonderful Disney Artists' Gallery. This was in one of it's windows. Nrthwnd
Back from The Hotel Break - To TDS At Night  Some parks look even more fantastic at night. Even carnival type set ups, like my little home park of Playland (asphalt and all), when the sun goes down and the lights come on - its just awesome to see.  Tokyo DIsney Sea just ups the beauty of the themeing when the sun goes down, and it's lighting comes on. We went back to a fave dinner spot, for more of the same, lol.  We also found out the showing of Fantasmic! that night would be "altered" and be a "toned down version" of itself. Meaning = winds were up, and the fireworks would be down. So we took a chance, skipped this night's showing, and hoped the weather would be better for tomorrow night. Back to the ball... er, The World Globe at TDS' entrance plaza. I see you, Mr.Nautilus, through the archway and at your little dock, inside Mysterious Island. And we took another 'tour' of Hightower Hotel, of course. (DbM) Another discovery! I totally forgot about this magnificent statue, behind the Broadway theatre marquee. Very nice. Yeah, we loved it. So much so, I believe we took two more "tours". A total of ....7 times? Yay! Our travelator deep within the mountain's center is #3! I like 3's. The ride's not too bad, either. (o; Getting dark now. Indiana Jones' temple looks nice in this darkness. And we head back to the Arabian Coast, for more of.... Beef Curry! With Extra Naan! We were blissed out with this awesome food. My take on Mermaid Lagoon. And The Mountain. We decided to take a night flight, on Jasmine's Flying Carpets. Just before take off... Lots of blues in the lighting, once you get going on it.
