P. 119: Test Track closure announced, new concept art released!

Recommended Posts

Comment From Pixie Vac Steve: Melissa, I am very excited about an update to Test Trak. The concepts seem a little Tron like. Was Tron an influence? - Pixie Vac Steve

Melissa Jeselnick: I think the new attraction and the artwork represent the digital age, and when people think about what the inside of a computer looks like, that's what you think of.

Yeah, that's pretty much the plot of Tron.

The "design your own car" stuff sounds a bit like the paint-and-tire-shop scenes of Radiator Springs Racers--that is, I guess they'll be using similar tecnhology.

LOL, I swear that's a direct quote from one of the movies.

I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Ships? Motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then one day, I got in.

Test Track was never my favorite, and I think there's other attractions in the park that needed help before it.

It's grown on me over the years, but I'm still waiting on Russia for World Showcase. Tequila, wine, and beer are all represented fairly well, but it's time for a world class Vodka bar.

Schnapps. We need a schnapps bar in Germany.

Wine bar in Italy. Champagne in France. Whiskey in Great Britain..errr Ireland.

^It's pretty much what Jeff Bridges says before they roll the opening credits of Tron Legacy.

This plus the black on neon blue you see in the marquee and show scenes concept art just scream TRON to me.. If the Shanghai Tron Cycle rumors ring true, I see this refurb as the BETA ( ) Tron ride.

I love how one person mentions liquor and suddenly the Test Track redesign is a distant memory, hahaha!

That's a good measure of how excited we all are about this "redesign". If only they changed the cars to "experimental light cycles" I'd be getting very excited but as it stands, after seeing all the artwork, I think I'm actually going to prefer the old Test Track. This seems like a more in-your-face advert for GM/Chevy and I wouldn't be surprised if that fancy Aveo you get to design in the line is available for order once you disembark with an affordable finance plan

Also on Thursday, I had the time to stop by Epcot for the first time in a while.

Inside of the ride, new vehicle shells are slowly being installed on the old ride vehicles.

Blue is new versus the old red/purple.

Not much more visible progress outside of Test Track yet.

It was a really slow day...

No, really. This place was empty!

Over in World Showcase, a ton of the International Food & Wine Festival Booths have been installed.

It looks like the locations might have been switched up this year for some booths. The popular Australia booth is normally closer to Germany.

I normally skip the South Africa booth, but maybe this year there'll be something I'm interested in trying.

More work going on over by Germany.

Over near the American Adventure several random characters like Bolt have appeared for guest photos.

Wendell from the Country Bear Jamboree was also out to meet guests.

The Hops & Barley Market (one of my more recent favorites) has moved to the side of the American Adventure.

Here's another fun shirt I hadn't seen before!

New for this year is the Fresh from Florida booth. I'm hoping it is as good as the old Florida booths from the past used to be, because those shrimp and citrus items are some of my all-time favorites!

Singapore also moved from its previous location.

Morocco on the other hand is exactly where it always is.

The plot used for the Belgium booth is currently being prepped.

France looks like it is almost ready to go!

DSC08768.JPG.afd474d79789c975d68ec39373e5514d.JPG

Construction work continues on what is rumored to be a more permanent DVC booth at the Canada pavilion... But I'm really hoping that this ends up being a quick service location that serves the cheese soup and chicken sausage with polenta... I'd eat there all day!

DSC08770.JPG.0d30add0765de4735dd4b7ee3e123eb4.JPG

I can't wait for this to return!

Same here!
