Casper
It's amazing that the coasters are open in the snow, but is it really pleasant to ride a coaster when it's that cold? I did some calculations of how it cold it would be to ride Balder here at Liseberg if it were open today and if you factor in windchill. Â It's -5C / 23F here right now. The top speed of Balder is 90kph / 56mph. With the windchill at that speed it would feel like -28C / -19F. That's pretty darn cold.
robbalvey
Day Eleven - Tokyo Disney Sea  So where did we leave off? Oh yes, the countdown party! It was a very bizarre experience hearing the countdown in Japanese. I'll post the video clip of that at some point soon!  We lasted until about 3am and then we realized that if we came back the next morning we probably would have a better time when we were actually awake. See our Countdown tickets were good for something like 26 park hours so we opted to go back to the hotel and get some sleep and then come back to DisneySea the next day.  DisneySea really is one of the best theme parks in the world. It's right up there in my opinion with IOA, Epcot, etc.  And overall the Tokyo Disney Resort is one of the best park complexes in the world. If Walt Disney World operating with the efficiency or clientele that TDL did then hands down WDW would win, but TDL just makes WDW look like a Six Flags park! And if that's the case, can you even image how it makes Paris or even DLR look?  Anyway, let me move onto a few photos..... "Yes, I know I'm not a 'hat person.' I look stupid with the hat on, and when I take it off it looks like I won the bad hair day trophy of Japan!  Tomorrow....Tokyo Disneyland!!! More people crashed out....you know what that makes them? "Smarter than us!" Of course with Elissa the "bag lady" attacking the stores it didn't help the depleating erchandise situation any! Nearing the end of the 26 hour event I saw something I thought I'd never see....Disney merchandise shelves PICKED CLEAN! Wow! We watched the show "Bravo-Seamo" or whatever the hell it's called. It's weird. Here is a giant squid thing coming out of the firey water. Looks cool, yes, but it's no Illunimations or Fantasmic. "I've got the remote control, the paddle ball, my skeleton gloves and that's ALL I NEED!" Journey To The Center Of the Earth also looks cool at night because it's got lights and steam and stuff. And that's what makes it cool! "Grrrrr! I am the Raging Spirts fire god dude. Ride me at night and I promise I won't bash your skull apart! GRRRRRRR!!!!!" There go the little boats spinning round and round making Elissa barf up her plain pasta and mustard. Back to Aquotopia because it's just SOOOOOO COOOOOL at night! Blue lights on the water....oooooohh....ahhhhhhhhhh Sun starts to set on this awesome looking park. It's so romantic I always feel like kissing Mark! :o You can see some of the detail and even if this is just the DCA version of the ride, it already craps all over that one! Mainly because it's not in California! Tower is looking pretty bad ass. Aquatopia - It moves, it turns, it spins and it's totally pointless....but for whatever reason it's REALLY COOL!!!!! "I have only had 10 boxes and popcorn and my ACE card says I need to eat at least another 6 or 7 for my daily quota!" And here's the ugly Lava monster! This dude is so scary than I need to carry "Depends" with me just in case! Here's the cool vehicles that bring you down into the earth. Screw that! It's time for Journey! For those of who who don't know "Journey" is basically Test Track, but with more laval and a really ugly monster! (no, not Robb...a different ugly monster!) Surprise!!! You get a fastpass for Sinbad! Loosely translated that means "Please come ride this....PLEASE!!! Someone! ANYONE!!!!" For Coaster Enthusiasts, that would NOT be a problem at all! Our goal was to eat as many as possible. WTF is it with all the crazy popcorn flavors in Japan?!!?? Overall we feared from the reports that this right would be rough as hell. It actually wasn't. Slightly rough at one point, but not bad at all. It's too bad the ride overall is just kind of "meh" and isn't something you'd rush to get back in line for. It goes upside down, and apparently that's a pretty big deal to people who haven't experienced Big Boom Coaster in the snow! "Raging Spirits" is basically a clone of Indiana Jones at Disneyland Paris. Before we do anything else....there is a credit here!!! Oh, yeah that's right. We're at DisneySea and this place kicks ass! We could be getting repeatedly bashed in the nuts with an ironing board and still be having a great time! (Yes, even Elissa and her huge bulge!) "What are we so happy about?!?!? It's the crack of dawn, it's zero degrees, we're all wearing 10 layers of clothes, and we're hugging a guy with a fake british accent. WTF?!?!?" "Happy New Year! How was that 4 1/2 hours of sleep?" Bright and early the next morning we make the trek to DisneySea. It's 3am and people are already starting to sleep in warm areas. We didn't see as many people sleeping as we thought, but they were there! Even It's a Small World wishes us a happy holiday and a blood curdling new year! Once again, something you would NEVER see at an American park. 100,000 people patiently waiting to see the fireworks. No pushing, no shoving, no swearing. Just good behavior and a LOT of it! It's completely mind blowing! Everyone got a free glowstick. Thank goodness is wasn't "live range chicken" night! "Ju, Ku, Hachi, Nana, Roku, Go, Yan, San, Ni, Ichi.....YAY!!!!!!" The fireworks were SO HUGE that it dwarfed the castle down to Disneyland's size!

Shockwave
Robb, I know that feeling all too well - hat hair is never good! Â Glad you had a great NYE party, and good call on catching some sleep before you got back to the park tour. Not even I could stay awake that long! Â Getting all those cool pictures while I'm at work is great entertainment when it goes quiet. I'm gonna miss these reports when you three fly home! I'm gonna miss these reports when you three fly home! Well just remember that when we get back in a couple of weeks we'll do daily "full" photo udpates. These forum updates are just a small percentage of the photos we took! I would image we'll have at least 4 to 5 pages of photos from each park once we get them all sorted. rollermonkey
Glad you guys got some sleep! DisneySea looked a like there was actually some people there! TDL was actually less crowded than my Xmas 2003 visit, so even though I didn't get there until 12 and left before 7, we got in several rides including the Haunted Mansion Nightmare Holiday Thingamabob. Â The stores were restocked, but so crowded even Mayumi didn't feel like fighting through to buy anything! Â What did you guys end up doing today while I was stuck at work? ECZenith
That's it... Â TDS is officially my must-see-before-I-die park. Is there much theming on Raging Spirits aside from the entryway? And is the ride actually two tracks or just one? Â Glad to see you are enjoying your visit.

rollermonkey
One track, but it seems like at least a dozen trains running on it! The theming continues through the station, and although my rides have been after nightfall, it seems that like the Paris ride, the theming is visible during the ride itself as well. (The ride is semi-enclosed due to all of the arches, walls, etc.) Â Chris B
Nrthwnd
Hmmmmph. Â I wish they were doing the "dry version" of Aquatopia, at DizzyParee Studios, and not the Kelp Kups (TDS) and/or Lady Bug Boogie (DCA) version that it's going to really get...doubled. For the "Cars" attraction, I mean... Â Ah, well. Â Continued good showing of what you're up to, when awake, lol. Â
