Part 12 - Buffalo Bill's

Thu Jul 17, 2014 8:37 am

New state credit! Yup, this leg of our trip brought us to Nevada! We had a few days in Vegas to look forward to but had to get a stop in Primm out of the way first. What a dive this place was! The best thing about Primm and everything in ot is that it makes you appreciate Las Vegas a hell of a lot more!
It's a long drive from Anaheim to Vegas and there' not a lot to look at except for this!

George Mason RIP.

New state credit!

This Double Western Bacon Cheeseburger was by far the highlight of my visit to Primm. Seriously.
image004.jpg (354.76 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Of course, this place is the real reason any coaster fan stops in Primm.

There's a bit of a "Blackpool Coral Island but more depressing" vibe inside Buffalo Bill's.
image006.jpg (333.7 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Speaking of Blackpool, there's Desperado! The Arrow hyper that took The Big One's spot as the tallest coaster in the world back in the 90s.
image007.jpg (313.2 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
We had to wait a while to get on this as the hotel won't run the coaster unless they ahve at least six people there to ride it.
image008.jpg (307.88 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
This was about as excited Michael got during our whole visit to Buffalo Bill's.
image009.jpg (233.04 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
At least we got on the coaster, I guess! It was pish! But I guess that keeps with the theme of the place!

Onto Vegas next!

Part 13 - Las Vegas!

Thu Jul 17, 2014 8:37 am

The next few days of our trip were spent in Las Vegas! It's certainly a unique place that everyone needs to visit. Great food, boozy drinks, awesome hotels, cool shows, crappy rollercoasters.. There really is something for everyone.

Here's a look back at our few days in Vegas...
Welcome to New Yo... I mean, Vegas! Where we stayed in New York!
image001.jpg (286.17 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
This place looks a little more elegant than Buffalo Bill's.
image002.jpg (430.02 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
This was the view from our window. Always great to hear screams of pain from riders as you try to sleep at night. ;)
image003.jpg (398.7 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
We started our tour of Vegas hotels in the Bellagio where we foudn this huge WPT poker tournament ongoing.
image004.jpg (422.62 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Daniel Negreanu! As an avid viewer and small time player of poker over the years it was really exciting to meet this guy and get a photo with him. If only I could play poker like he does!

More Vegas hotel stuff!

Eat this World of Color!

I think this means I've got all my fountain credits for this trip. I hope so.
image008.jpg (252.37 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
It's the little things you see in Vegas like spiral escalators that help make all those hotels really cool.
image009.jpg (289.95 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Our first show of our visit was Blue Man Group!
image010.jpg (253.47 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
It was quite similar to the show I saw in Orlando in 2008 but this show had something that one didn't. Balls.
image011.jpg (280.48 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
As cool as the strip looks during the day it looks super awesome at night!
image012.jpg (345.54 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Neon sexiness.
image013.jpg (282.05 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Bubba Gump! This was my first visit here.
image014.jpg (281.53 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
And oh man, it was awesome, though I was a bit perplexed that our drinks were more expensive than our food at this place!
image015.jpg (376.48 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Memories of Primm are well on their way to being vanquished in Begas! (Check out that sunburn!)
image016.jpg (273.73 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
We also checked out the "old strip" up at Freemont Street. It's a little sadder and more depressing up here but it's interesting to see at least.
image017.jpg (325.55 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Of course, there was the little matter of Circus Circus to attend to while we were in town.
image018.jpg (253.41 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Ch-ching! This was before El Loco was built so it was really one and done in the pink tinged greenhouse.
image019.jpg (339.89 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
No credit for grown ups on this one. Would you expect anything less from a Pepsi park?
image020.jpg (315.74 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Our second evening took us to Paris...
image021.jpg (294.68 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Where we saw Jersey Boys! I LOVED this show. It's just a shame the Vegas audience doesn't get into it the same way a London or Broadway audience might. But it's still great show.
image022.jpg (335.68 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
These guys seemed to enjoy it too.
image023.jpg (291.38 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Night fountains! Now I TRULY have all teh fountain credits!
image024.jpg (331.84 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Manhattan Express doesn't look any more appetising at night.

Just in case you felt that there weren't enough McDonald's logos in this trip report.
image026.jpg (274.19 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Steak'n'Shake in Vegas? I'll go for some of that!
image027.jpg (281.42 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
m&m shake awesomeness!
image028.jpg (325.1 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
As burgers on this trip went this certainly wasn't the best (Five Guys and In-N-Out were way better) but it's still a decent effort and it's cool that Steak'n'Shake is an option here!
image029.jpg (311.6 KiB) Viewed 6241 times
Michael's a huge fan of Pawn Stars. I know nothing about it but apparently this place is a big deal.

Pawn shop porn....

So that's Vegas! A fun place to spend a couple of days that I can only imagine would be an absolutely riot with a big group of friends. We need to engineer a Brit Crew visit to this place...

Nice report! I think if the Brit Crew did vegas a couple of us might not make it back to the UK :P

Part 14 - Sea World San Diego and More!

Fri Jul 18, 2014 8:17 am

Our trip ended with a few relaxing days in Carlsbad - it was a nice change of pace after running around like crazy hitting stuff in LA and Vegas. Of course we still took out a little time to visit a park or two...
Final big park of the trip - Sea World San Diego!

The theming in the Sesame Street land is very cool!

But Manta is even more cool!

Such a fun ride - have Mack even made a bad ride in the last five years??

Don't give me any of your Blackpish. Show me some whales!
image006.jpg (369.41 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
The shark exhibits are always my favourite parts of Sea World parks.
image007.jpg (237.61 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
image008.jpg (265.63 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
This wasn't a long visit to Sea World, there isn't a whole lot there that interests me but the coasters and Shamu show were fun. Just need to get that San Antonio park credit now!
image009.jpg (292.54 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
Seeing as we were in the vicinity we also stopped by Belmont Park!
image010.jpg (284.29 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
Last credit of the trip - Giant Dipper!
image011.jpg (258.83 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
It's not gonna win any awards but I do love a seaside wooden coaster!
image012.jpg (263.89 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
We spent our last evening in San Diego in one of my favourite places there - Old Town!
image013.jpg (266.12 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
I almost bought one of these luchadore masks before realising I would have absolutely no use for it whatsoever.
image014.jpg (323.94 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
Looks like this guy's having a great time!
image015.jpg (278.23 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
This place might be my favourite restaurant in San Diego - Rockin' Baja!
image016.jpg (304.96 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
It's great - you got all the authenticity of amazing Mexican food without having to be in Mexico!
image017.jpg (346.91 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
Michael managed to seamlessly blend in with the Old Town locals.
SD048.jpg (380.38 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
Our last morning was spent wandering around Downtown San Diego. Like most cities, it has buildings.

One last photo of Michael and I as I bring this trip report to a close!
image019.jpg (151.31 KiB) Viewed 6137 times
And that's it for Divv California Adventure! Writing this TR has reminded me of what a ffun couple of weeks it was - I really need to get back over there in the next couple of years!

Thanks for reading along, everyone!

I don't know how I missed all these updates! It looks like you had a great trip. And yes, Nevada is pretty much that ugly through the entire state! I'm still lacking the Desperado credit. Maybe one day I'll finally get it.

Cool end to the report! And if you think 'authentic' Mexican food in California is good, wait till you try it IN Mexico!!! It's a million times better literally right on the other side of the border....and improves as you move south!

Maybe because I attended SFMM during West Coast Bash my opinion is skewed, but I actually thought the park was fine except for horrible train dispatches.

Re: Photo TR: Divv California Adventure

I didn't think the dispatches were that bad on wcb day. I also really need to get back to sea world san diego and check manta out. Don't think I've been there in about twenty years.
