Erik Johnson
I'm thinking of all the times I've been in this area and never gotten to Conneaut Lake, and I'm kicking myself hard for that. Devil's Den is A MUST. (Even thought the gum wall thing literally turns my stomach.) And, yes, Kennywood is a little corner of heaven. I honestly thought the gum wall was disgusting! The ride was pretty good. Chuck experienced a roll back before the lift hill!
cfc
^Yay for rollbacks!
Kyle Coleman
Great tr. You kind of have me thinking about doing a kennywood, waldameer, holiday world trip of my own for next year. Kennywood also looks great at night with all of the neon.
Erik Johnson
Cedar Point! I will do this section in several updates. There is simply too much to post at once. I have not been to Cedar Point since 2007 (When Maverick first opened), so I felt it was time to finally make a return trip back to the park. It also does not hurt that a big brand new coaster just opened up a few weeks ago as well. This was Chuck's first visit to the park, so it was fun to be along to help him earn all of those credits. We stayed at Hotel Breakers which for me is certainly worth the extra money for being right next to the park. We were in the 2nd closest hotel room to the side entrance! The extra hour of early entry is also a nice perk. It is always good to have a minimum of two days, especially if you travel far, to visit the park. The weather can be so unpredictable. Lucky for us, the weather was beyond perfect. We ended up getting in advance the new Fast Lane Plus. It was worth every penny. We got on multiple rides on Maverick (90 minute wait reduced to 5), Dragster, MF., Raptor and GateKeeper (90 minute wait reduced to 5). Chuck was able to easily earn all his credits, which included multiple rides, on the first day. (Well except Wicked Twister, but we got that the following day). Cedar Point does have some of my favorite coasters. Maverick still is my favorite in the park. I was able to ride Gatekeeper twice though I have to admit that was disappointed with it. I somewhat like Wing Rider coasters. I have ridden both Wild Eagle and X-Flight before riding Gatekeeper and I would have to rate Gatekeeper behind both of those. ( X-Flight would be my favorite in case you wanted to know). Our first ride was in row two on the right side. I was pretty surprised how much the train rattled on the outside seat. I never felt any rattle on either Eagle or Flight. Our second with was in the back row left-hand side. I only noticed very little rattle on that row. Overall, I guess I really did not care a whole lot about the layout of the ride. Sure the keyhole section is fun, but the rest of the ride kind of felt flat to me. It just had too many zero-G type maneuvers. By no means is it a bad ride, just it is not one of my favorites. Anyways, let us head on to the first batches of photos. Hope you enjoy them! Made it back to Cedar Point. I have not been here since 2007. This is a big perk for staying at a Cedar Point hotel. Good morning little Gate Keepers. Chuck has visited most of the major parks in the entire world. This is proof he finally made it to Cedar Point. Well...I would agree that it is the best park in Ohio. You had to start the day with the best coaster in the park, right? Maverick is still awesome. We were able to get a few rides in that morning. The lift sure is fast. You do get some nice air time here. Right into the tunnel. The tunnel launch is really great. I honestly think it is pretty much the most perfectly paced ride I have ridden. I think that the front row is my favorite. We now present to you.... Nobody has this picture. It really goes up there....far. The ride is very camera friendly. Weeeeee! There are two places of airtime in the ride. The first drop is really great. The park was pretty crowded for a Monday. Our 90 minute wait for GateKeeper became 5 with this. Oh yeah, this is here too. I was happy to get multiple rides on this during our visit. Zoooom! 420 feet is a long way up. 17 seconds later, you are finished. This is a close up of 120mph. New for 2013! Station photo! Fast Lane Plus avoids all of this! Gatekeeper Train! Wing Rider trains really do look neat. Up they go! Gatekeeper slowly turns upside down at this point. You really do get a lot of hang time in the front rows. Not much airtime here. Keyholing! This is where the train reverses direction to head back to the station. Another near miss! Raptor is a LOT taller than I remembered. It really is one of the best B&M inverts in my opinion. We will finish off part one with a water tower photo. beatle11
I'm definitely looking forward to returning to Cedar Point in August! Maverick is just so awesome!
cfc
Gatekeeper maybe be newer, and MF is bigger, but Maverick is the star ride at Cedar Point.
Taylor Finn
I live in Pittsburgh and was originally planning to do Waldameer and presque isle state park in one day during the week which would obviously be no problem. But I forgot about Conneaut until now. I take it they are only open Friday Saturday Sunday and they only sell ride all day passes? I guess I could try to do the beach until like 11, 11:30, grab lunch and do Waldameer till 6, and then get to Conneaut until close on a Friday. I've already done Waldameer twice but my friend hasn't. Erik Johnson
Conneaut also sells individual tickets as well. I knew that I wanted to ride Blue Streak several times, so the $20 all day wrist band was worth it for me. On our visit we discovered that while Waldameer opened at 12, most of the rides did not actually open until 1. cfc
^We did get our $20 worth with re-rides on Blue Streak and Devil's Den--plus the Flying Scooters, Carousel (which was a very nice one), and Bumper Cars (not great ones, but there was fun group driving them that day). Taylor Finn
Yeah, my plan was Blue Streak, Devils Den, Flyers, and Train. I'll probably decide then and there on tickets or wrist band. Thanks for the help!
Defcon62
If you end up at Conneaut on a friday, take two cans of non perishable food per person with you. Its good for a $5 discount on each ride wristband.
Taylor Finn
If I get there at 7 and do an all day wristband, I could probably ride most of the adult stuff there, right?
Erik Johnson
Should be fine. I bet Blue Streak will be an amazing ride at night.
VegasCoasterGirl
Definitely would like to check out both places out in the future.
Erik Johnson
I guess I should finish this thread eh? Cedar Point Part 2 This is new for me. Hardly anyone was riding it because there was a bit of a chill in the air. Splash Down! Mantis is my least favorite coaster in the park. I think Chuck agrees! Lots of smart riders on that one! This one is not very good either. It certainly could benefit from a RMC upgrade! It does take a nice photo though. Elephant ears are super yummy! Which do you think is the better choice? I have never ridden the train here before. Oh, cool. 50th Anniversary. Here it comes! You sort of get a backstage look at MF from the train. Another angle of the station. Coaster trains come out of that hole from time to time. Yellow train zooming by! Here is a train exclusive photo of Maverick. You get a lot of nice airtime on this part of the ride. All of this was totally unexpected. Say hello to the skeletons. It may be clunky, but you sure get some airtime on this one. First coaster to go over 200 feet. I think it is supposed to be a space rocket. Front of the train. Want to take a ride on the skyride? Engage! Lots of bands were in the park today. The front of the park really looks different now. Raptor is still fantastic. Pink's was an unexpected new addition. The building certainly has a retro flair to it. This would be my second Windseeker credit. I really do like Maxair. It really looks much more intimidating than it is. You should give it a try, This would be the second Blue Streak on this trip. It is fun. Try the front row sometime. All about Blue Streak. Lots of Blue!! This would be the first time for me to experience the Ceder Downs ride. Not too many of these left. I have been able to experience the one at Rye Playland as well. Very retro pinball collection. I can not think of the last time I have seen a wide body table. Random corkscrew photo! Skyhawk was down for the count. While the food was pretty good, I honestly think that it is way over priced...even for a themepark. I am pretty sure we rode every single Antique Car/Hot Rod ride in the park. I think there were 3 or 4 different ones. Antique Cars. The area around Fort Sandusky really does have a Dollywood feel to it. Another MF train heading off into the sun. The sign of quality. You can get some good photos from this thing. Gatekeeper at dusk. The sun is setting quickly. Maxair....from the air! Windseeker at dusk. Raptor...from the air! I really do like this photo of Dragster. Have a good night!
jray21
Great ending to your report! I totally think you made the right decision by riding the train instead of Mean Streak.
cfc
Mantis is my least favorite coaster in the park. I think Chuck agrees! Mean Streak gives it a run for its money, though.
Jew
This TR makes me want to get back to Cedar Point. My visit where I joined the TPR midwest trip was extremely rushed thanks to their horrible rain policies!
Erik Johnson
^ Yeah that visit was really odd due to the rain and no power. The combination of having a fast pass system and perfect weather really enhanced my visit this time.
