Photo Trip Report:Little America, the dells, sfga

we were able to hit up 3 parks this past holiday weekend. We started at little America, then we were off to the dells, and ended up at six flags great America for 2.5 days.

I'm not the best at writing out a long trip report, so I will let the pictures do most of the talking. I will do the report in several parts because there are so many pictures to share.

First park of the trip....Little America.

Our first park

The first coaster we hit was the mad mouse. And this mouse was not just mad....He was pissed!

This is where the beatings will take place.

The coaster is just a bunch of scalfiling(sp) with track on it. Very safe I'm sure.

I can not begin to describe the pain that is brought upon you on the last few hills of this ride.

Next up was the meteor

The meteor is a classic little coaster that still uses manual brakes. The ride has a single train.

This is a great little coaster.

Wait....whats this? A missing piece? Why would the coaster be missing a piece you ask?

Well....it's so the salt and pepper shaker ride does not hit it.

I had to ride this, as I have not been on one since I was a young teenager.

The park has a handfull of other rides as well.

The kiddie coaster

The ride has a basic oval layout.

There it is...it taunts me. It's the coaster of death.

It's a classic chance tobbogan coaster.

The spiral down the tower is a piece of cake. It's what awaits you at the bottom that is the problem. Brutal would be a good way to describe it.

The park has a train ride as well. I kept missing the train, so I was not able to get a picture.

There is also an arcade, gift shop, and snack bar inside.

Did I mention that the park is right next to a grave yard?

On our way out of the park.....it still taunts me.

On our way to the next park, we stopped for some tacos and bubble gum.

Can anybody guess what state the next park is in? You will find out soon in the next part of the trip report.

Were the tacos "convenient"?

I agree with you about Chance Toboggans. The spiral part is OK, but those little dips at the can make you cough up your spine.

I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would pay their hard earned cash to ride anything at LA, except maybe the "salt and pepper shaker." Their coasters suck, their flats suck, and their ops are creepy. Not to mention the six laps we had to make on Meteor because they couldn't get the station brakes to grab.

Please tell me you did the Haunted House. Biggest WTF I've done at a park! Just awful, and the farthest thing from ADA.

To get the credits, as well as some rarities (tobaggan, wild mouse with no restraints). But why someone would ever go back, is beyond me.

No there wasn't much positive about the place...

Little Amerricka is a great park, but it's clearly not meant for people who are only looking for big thrills. It's a small family park that serves a small town in the middle of nowhere. Sure the rides aren't anything amazing, but they're fun for what they are. The train ride is one of the best anywhere and the mini golf is pretty good as well. I'm not sure what you were expecting that left you so disappointed, but people should go to the park with the mindset that it's a very small park in a very small town. Even if its nothing more than a credit stop for some people, it's important to support smaller parks like this to keep them alive.

Even though the coasters were not the greatest, we thought it was a fun little park. So did a lot of other people, as the line to get into the park was crazy long.

Our next stop was in the Dells.

We were able to hit 2 parks while there. We started at timber falls adventure park, and ended at Mt Olympus.

Timber falls adventure park was location in a strip mall parking lot and was very compact. The hellcat coaster was by far my favorite wooden coaster of this trip. Dare I say that it would be in my top 10 woodies. The hellcat and log flume were both over $6 to ride, and the hellcat was worth every penny.

The reason for us to go there was the hellcat coaster.

It was hard to get a good shot of the coaster, as much of it was close to the ground.

The park has a few other attractions like a log flume and mini golf course.We almost did the log flume, but it was over $6 a person so we passed. The hellcat was a great coaster, and worth every penny. It was crazy insane fast.

Our next park was Mt olympus. I will have the pictures of this park on thrs eve.

Thanks for the TR. I visited the Dells two weekends ago. It was very hot, but overall, a great time. We stopped at Mount Olympus, Timber Falls (for Hellcat/Avalanche and some hardcore miniature golf), Knuckleheads (which actually has a small, indoor children's coaster), etc.

I obviously know the park is not meant for me, but when I go to a park and spend my good money I at least expect enjoyable rides, a clean park, and a ride op to be there to take a ticket at each open ride. We walked up to the Haunted House and waited for a ride op to appear while we were watched by the Scrambler operators. God forbid one of the three ops running that ride could have helped us out.

Now though I didn't have the best experience at the park I still happily paid my money, rode their coasters and went on my way. I don't ever plan on being in that area again so I probably won't have any reason. I'm not mad at the park by any means, I just can't understand why locals would pay their money to ride any of the parks roller coasters. None of them are thrilling, and 3/4 were more than uncomfortable. Just offering my two cents on the park and at the same time wondering how they manage to draw in a crowd.

To the OP, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but there really isn't another place to discuss the park. I'd love to hear if you had any similar thoughts.

I'm going to go out on a limb by guessing that the citizens of Marshall, WI are not theme park nerds and simply enjoy having any sort of amusement park in their community. Just a hunch.

I suppose the fact that everything was like a dollar didn't hurt, but I digress.

And knowing when you went to the park would be helpful. A full staff won't be there in the middle of the week.

Here are my pictures of Mt olympus.

The coasters at this park were all kinda bunched together, and were hard to tell one from the other. I have to admit that I was not too impressed with the coasters at this park besides hades and the mouse coaster "opa". The reason I did not like them was simple.....They were brutal.

Hades was not too bad, and the tunnel was interesting. Opa was the only mouse coaster I have ever been on where the car actually spun going up the lift hill. After watching the coaster, we noticed that not all the cars were spinning up the hill. I guess we got lucky. Has this happened to anyone else?

There are two coasters in this picture.

Zeus was the first coaster in the park. If you visit this park, be prepaired to climb lots of stairs.

There was a 1 train wait.

Right next to zeus, was hades. I was excited to ride this coaster after seeing it on a coaster show a few weeks ago.

It was hard to get too many good shots of this coaster, as most of it was out of view. This is the end of the ride here.

This coaster had a few pops of air.

And this is the tunnel that gets you there.

The park has several really kick ass go cart tracks as well.

Our next coaster was cyclops

This coaster was not too bad.

The ride was a walk on.

Should I be worried?

The coaster used the land in a few spots.

Pegasus was the next coaster. We had a hard time finding the entrance for this coaster.

After walking the wrong way, my daughter found it.

The train. All of the coasters in this park run a single train except for opa.

Little titans was the parks kiddie coaster. I was too tall to get this credit.

The park was themed very nice.

We almost did the water park, but the lines were too long.

I wish I was big.

The first thing you see when you enter the indoor portion of the park.

There were a few other rides as well.

Bumper cars.

But the big ride was the mouse coaster.

Back outside, the park has an upcharge s&s swing ride.

There is also a small section with kiddie rides as well.

Across the street, there was a closed f.e.c. Was this the same bungie tower where there was an incident on a few years ago?

The park has other offerings like a petting farm.

On the way out, I was able to snap a shot of the cyclops lift hill.

We also took a ride on the trojan horse go carts.

This attraction was right next to Mt Olympus. any ideas what this is?

The upside down white house is a walk through attraction of...the white house upside down. I know the wonder works chain use a similar facade, but don't be fooled, it's nothing nearly as cool. You basically walk through rooms to find out why the white house is upside down and it all leads up to an incredibly anti climatic finale. It has one of the worst attraction ratings in the dells, as it should. The only way I could ever reccomend going through it is if you have a coupon, your with a fun group of people, and that you realize the most fun you will have in the place is making fun of how much it sucks.

Seems you had a typical day at Mt. O. The park looks pretty good, but definitely under delivers.

And yes, that is the SCAD Tower where the accident happened.

Lordy, Little A-Merrick-A is digging it's own grave if they haven't already contacted Lo-Q about solving that there mess.

But really, on the topic of WI- I don't think I've read anything about Zippin Pippin on here or other similar message boards. Too far out of the way?

Zippin' Pippin is a great little rebuild. I have to imagine Wooden Warrior provides a pretty similar experience. Small and short, but very sweet!

Opa was the only mouse coaster I have ever been on where the car actually spun going up the lift hill. After watching the coaster, we noticed that not all the cars were spinning up the hill. I guess we got lucky. Has this happened to anyone else?

 

I'm assuming that you just happened to had been in a car that hasn't been fixed properly. It is seriously hard for me to see Mt. Olympus TR's and not become cynical because I truly think this is the worst amusement park in the country when it comes to service and safety. I can't think of a visit I've had there where I didn't see or hear something appalling in terms of service or safety. I haven't been to the park since 2009 (and honestly have no desire to return)....and I'm shocked that there hasn't been a death or serious accident to make the news since my initial visit in 2005. Oh and I believe general admission is somewhere around $50 as well....NUTS!!!

However, despite everything I just said, I'm glad you had a positive experience

It's hard to argue that the place looks like the shining example of safety, yet the only incident I can recall involving Big Chief's/Mt. Olympus is an accidental release of excess chlorine into a wave pool last year. You would never have guessed that if you're going strictly on comments people leave on park/coaster discussion boards.

I think the opposite is true with your last statement. I've found it incredibly cheap to get in, whether or not you are staying at one of their hotels (free if you are). They just ran a special for the last two weeks for Free Waterpark Admission. If I remember right, it's only an additional $10 to add the theme park on.

The rest I can agree with though.
