HowieP Posted June 27, 2011 Share Posted June 27, 2011 I figured I'd start my coaster season and take a day trip down to Indiana Beach and check out Steel Hawg for the first time. It was exciting! I tried to get one of my sisters to go, but she had to work, so I took a solo flight. And here are the pics! On the way to Indiana Beach. Noting but corn fields as far as the eye can see! Tried to get a picture of the new sign, but the sun had other plans! The familiar view from the bridge. Here's the Hawg! S&S Ride in all its glory! In the words of the great Robb Alvey, "NINETY DEGREES!!!" The logo. Yeah. Some Cornball Express. Still a great ride and much better with single buzz bars. Hoosier or Rapids? Pick your poison... Time for some Hot Schwarzkopf Action on Tig'rr! These turns are excellent! Galaxi. Still holding up and still has some of the best floater air on any coaster. I literally rose up half a foot out of my seat on the big drops! "Entrance" to Galaxi. Noted! Only got to ride Lost Coaster once. They shut it down later. On the plus side, they were running both trains. Last time I was there, they only ran one, which made for extremely low rider capacity. Somewhere in that mess of waterslides, Galaxi sits. The famous Shafer Queen. Wasn't running that day, as noted by the closed sign. There were a few rides that were shut down, including Music Express, which moved closer to Steel Hawg. It is still under maintenance. Also The Artist Formerly Known As Water Swings is in that area and fully operational. Looks like they turned the old Superstition Mountain cars into a bitchin' motorcycle! A big change happened to Tig'rr since I was there last time... ... and here it is! SEAT BELTS!! Guess it's a necessary evil. Alright, back to the Hawg! Here's that world-famous drop! Here's the first of the two inversions. The other is a barrel roll/corkscrew element. Nerd shot. See that white thing behind the car? That rises up from between the tracks and releases the shoulder harness with compressed air. Here's where the Falling Star is supposed to go, eventually. Still the cheesiest attraction I've ever been on, yet, I'm always entertained! Splash Battle was also down. Dan, you're safe! New for 2011, Adventure Point! Some of the Rope Course. Here's where the Water Swings were before being moved to its current location near Steel Hawg. Now an Air Jump sits here as part of the Adventure Point expansion. Some more of the Rope Course. Here's where the Mini Golf under the Hoosier Hurricane turn used to be. They are adding to the Adventure Point area a Zip Line that starts by the suspension bridge parking lot and goes towards the old mini golf area. The other Mini Golf was also demolished to make room for the cabana's at the waterpark. More of the former Mini Golf. As I was leaving, I was lucky enough to get a photo of Hoosier going under the bridge. Hoosier is also pretty good due in part to having the classic buzz bars on their PTC's as opposed to individual lap bars. Here's one of the new ticket booths by the free parking at the bridge.
