Photo TR: Coaster Palooza 2008 - UPDATE P. 23

Recommended Posts

I know it has been a while since I posted a trip report. I will need to finish off Coaster Palooza 2007 when I get a chance, but here is the beginning of a new year!

Sorry it took so long to post a West Coast Bash Trip Report, but here it goes. As always, you can just scan down and look at the pics.

Coaster Palooza 2008 has started with a trip to SoCal. We flew down to Ontario, CA on Saturday. My friend had mentioned that he made some changes with his house. I haven’t seen him in a few years and we thought it would be a good idea to hang out on Saturday. He had to work until 3pm though. Because of this, we decided to go to Knott’s’ Berry Farm to ride Sierra Sidewinder until he got done working.

The Winter Coaster Solace was going on, but we didn’t go to it. The park wasn’t that crowded either. We waited around 30 minutes to ride Sidewinder. The ride is okay. I don’t think I would wait that long to ride it again. We also went up in the Sky Tower.

We got back to my friend’s (Mark) work around 3pm. The plan was to go race go-karts at K1. These aren’t your normal go-karts. They have a bit more power behind them. I wasn’t all that great at it. I came in fifth place out of 9 people, oh well. Gyendolynne did a good job, but the other people racing weren’t very respectful. I had similar problems and actually ended up T-Boning the guy that bumped Gyendolynne. You aren’t supposed to bump or rub, but these guys were doing it. He was actually driving so erratic that he blew out his left rear tire! How do you do that in a go-kart? Mark came in second place. He did a great job.

After the go-karts, we went to this huge Bass Pro Shop. They have a restaurant in there with a giant aquarium. We had a couple of drinks and then went to the grocery store to buy some food for dinner.

Mark’s house has a putting green in the back yard and a big BBQ along with a huge pool and Jacuzzi. We BBQ’d, drank, putted and sat in the Jacuzzi for the night. The next morning came really quick, especially with the 1-hour time change! The alarm was set for 4am (actually 3am). The plan was to be on the road by 6am to get to Valencia by 7:30. We didn’t leave until 6:30, but I was surprised at how fast we got there. It only took us an hour.

West Coast Bash was a great time. I am sure you have all read the many things that were posted. I don’t want to bore you because the Trip Report is already long enough. I will highlight a couple of things we liked: It was great hanging out with Chris, Natalee, and Caroline Godsey. Heather, great meeting you and talking to you too! We also met the newest member of the Alvey clan this year. We were down there last year when she was born, but we didn’t have the time to stop off at the hospital to see her. The museum at the top of the skyride is a must see. All the ERT was absolutely incredible. The walk-back tours (Jahan you’re a great guide!) and Magic Moments Theater were really outstanding. We appreciated everything everyone did. Magic Mountain is making a lot of changes for the better.

I hope you like the pictures.

I'm taking a page from my hero Big Mike. I will post below where we were and on what dates. I will also post what page the park is on.

Thanks for sharing your photos. Brought back some not so distant memories from my trip to California last March. It was a good visit to Knott's when we went. Beautiful weather and not crowded at all. Silver Bullet was the highlight for since we got to ride countless times with minimal wait.

Time to continue the report. Next stop, West Coast Bash!!! I won't go into any long detail about this because it is posted up above and there are so many great reports out there already. This was an absolute blast though. Thanks R&E, Chris, and Natalee.

I thought I would add CGA's opening day photos to the same thread.

We went to CGA Sunday (3/16) for opening day. We arrived around 4pm because we just wanted to process our passes. There weren’t any problems for us in processing our passes. I guess all the glitches were worked out before we got there.

The only issue I had was getting our Cedar Fair windbreakers. We had to go outside to Guest Relations, get a receipt and come back inside to the CGA merchandise place. I don’t know why there is the run-around, but that would be my only complaint here.

Yes, they weren’t allowing anyone on Flight Deck. The coaster actually brokedown the day before during a private event. They kept working on it all day long. I have no idea what the issue was. Firefall is still being constructed. I didn’t see anywhere that it would be operating in March. I believe it should be open by May. Drop Tower (formerly Drop Zone) was running while we were there. I think the reason why it wasn’t operating earlier was because of the massive winds we had on Sunday. It was still pretty windy when we were there, but they were running Drop Tower and the Sky Ride. I didn’t see any other rides down.

We rode Drop Tower. I rode Invertigo and Demon. We had beer and nachos. A new/old face has also returned to CGA. It is good to see him there.

Where to next? Palooza continues next weekend, stay tuned!

I hope you enjoy the photos.

Here is Al, he used to be with SFDK, but just got back to CGA. Nice talking to you today. Sorry about the problems with Flight Deck. We are looking forward to the new rollercoaster next year. Construction should start in May.

IMG_2326.JPG.3a0e8db72cfc7ec1efdee75b3e2bf7e9.JPG

Larry, didn't I say I wouldn't ride it again after I rode it with you last year?

IMG_2325.JPG.0437333e53f38d89e32fea4f678fd773.JPG

Man, this hurts!

Ouch! OW,

IMG_2321.JPG.b71cc316bed8717979ade477be40084a.JPG

I don't know why...

I went to ride Invertigo

Beer and Nachos, always a great snack pleaser.

Some cool dirt/construction photos coming up.

IMG_2313.JPG.8c2fcb857e1e0503a1b199dc54177a6f.JPG

Yep, Firefall isn't operating yet. I don't think there was a plan to have it open at this point.

IMG_2311.JPG.8db6921770013c229f6e90b23125d612.JPG

Here we are at Top Gun...errr, I mean Flight Deck. Notice the empty train?

IMG_2310.JPG.e053ac448a6aceac99190c6e68d116c1.JPG

Maybe all the signs haven't been changed yet, but it looks like they are really working on it.

Oooooh...New Sign!

^^Scott, I have no idea if the station is still there. Maybe Ryan (Bush985) can answer that question better.

^RIP, my wife actually loves the rollercoasters and themeparks. She just knows what rides beat her up though. There are some that she will ride once, but never again.

At CGA, she likes Flight Deck (formerly Top Gun), Psycho Mouse, Delirium, bumper cars, and the swings. She can be talked into riding Grizzly, sometimes. Demon, Invertigo, and Vortex all have the OTSRs and they beat her up pretty good. I know she will ride X2 when it opens up too. If it beats her up, she won't get on it again.

^So, when it comes to some rides, Gewn is smarter than you, Rick? Well, I have ridden Vekoma Boomerangs, so I'm hardly one to talk.

Looks like y'all had a great time.

Is the Tidal Wave boarding station still sitting back there one of the pictures makes it look that way but i'm not sure

Station's sitting there, with a bunch of blue/green paint chips below it as well as the giant footers behind the restrooms (that was for the loop). If I'm not mistaken, there's a GL exit sign laying around down there as well. This is all visible from Vortex's turn around before going up the lift.

Coaster Palooza 2008 takes its next step! Another local park.

We took our first trip to SFDK yesterday (3/23). Easter usually isn’t that crowded and we were right! We arrived just after they opened at 10:30am. There was somewhat of a morning crowd at the tram, but it really wasn’t all that bad. All the rides were operating while we were there. The characters were walking around and they also had animals out and about. Their youngest camel was on display in the front when we first got in. They had a penguin out later.

It was a really great day at the park. They even had ERT on one of their coasters for season pass holders only! I’ll let the pics show that.

IMG_2414.JPG.943e8654bdf6f947876fb5bfcc033fd6.JPG

We rode the elephant a few years back. It is a good ride if you have the time.

IMG_2413.JPG.f6a5e22e9e92758502919d40d723ea2e.JPG

We liked how they spruced up this area.

IMG_2412.JPG.25e2b043157810ac00ffc150dee65d46.JPG

mmmm, don't you want a taco now?

IMG_2411.JPG.e8ea06f34d63fd7f06b2f4cd291628e5.JPG

I have to say that this is the best place to eat at SFDK. Their tacos are authentic.

In case you forgot where we were.

We're waiting Germany.

Hey, that looks familiar.

IMG_2394.JPG.adec5f3a488168a38ea0c9048a74eb75.JPG

Gyendolynne didn't ride alone, but I have the bag.

IMG_2393.JPG.e20652c687447ed3388d14e265167307.JPG

Hey, nice retro Epcot shirt.

IMG_2392.JPG.495d65da9e0ba987dbc41c32f3ffa26d.JPG

Woohoo!

IMG_2391.JPG.0cea9ce2a2625afb48aff87f54991056.JPG

Yes, I do fit!

IMG_2389.JPG.94970481a02f9a0929d5431137cdb213.JPG

We called this the bag incident. Apparently these guests didn't take the locker policy seriously enough.

IMG_2387.JPG.1d18ac4e7c6fa0bae492182bf3b1bb92.JPG

Yep, riding alone because of the bag policy.

IMG_2386.JPG.ad6aa774486dbdd9cf1f9ec47c7c573a.JPG

Is that where Zonga used to be and Tony Hawk's new coaster will be?

IMG_2385.JPG.c5d0aa6a6d3527f189484cb9b5e51933.JPG

The next bag/locker policy coaster. Luckily they only had it on Medusa and Roar. We didn't experience it on any other ride.

IMG_2384.JPG.db9584a153166b5e1d8add267e61e884.JPG

The dolphins were being fed too.

IMG_2383.JPG.5e5943188be270b8ea76d792d799891f.JPG

We didn't feed them.

IMG_2382.JPG.c81c5af301e1b73089e6c24174f6e690.JPG

Right next to Seal Cove is Sting Ray Bay.

IMG_2381.JPG.6395fff7aeea387fec2d3155481e5e1c.JPG

Do you find it funny that we pay money to feed them?

IMG_2378.JPG.4fed8d18d12563eabbaf6c99af86e13b.JPG

They always know when it's feeding time.

IMG_2375.JPG.a9982f29a3087d053d652f5a577dd73b.JPG

We went to Seal Cove next.

IMG_2374.JPG.b98b3f1b64d9c323d6f98204c63b36bc.JPG

Hey penguin dude! Nice tuxedo.

IMG_2373.JPG.e4c0a3bf879d4a55376f66d9bec5e7af.JPG

Could this be a new flat ride? What could it be? We were told this is going to be a new bathroom! LOL

IMG_2372.JPG.cff51571427a076f00df8badf559eb82.JPG

OOOOH...What's this? What did we stumble upon? What are they building?

IMG_2371.JPG.454b63a9028020fac330ce29814a4398.JPG

This is the season pass processing area. What's with the capes this year? It's better than the basketballs, but I don't get it.

IMG_2369.JPG.e1305da95ec43ac6212b618135987e84.JPG

That's her arm in the back.

IMG_2368.thumb.JPG.15a5edfd7d2606543be52da6c0c4eec6.JPG

Hi Gyendolynne. Enjoy your smooth ride on Medusa.

IMG_2367.JPG.36dbbf2bf1c9106c5a4ea7c0b2356914.JPG

Here's another head banger, known as KONG.

IMG_2365.JPG.b93a7eb4e068e287956cf319e6f48f43.JPG

Gyendolynne can ride.

IMG_2362.JPG.86bf9f08894a382199801d16ccdc5a4f.JPG

I will ride and then I will hold the bag so....

IMG_2361.JPG.51332191e898d00d5e089342ec57c626.JPG

The new bag policy is in effect.

IMG_2360.JPG.f967180fd949fe9b75d0be14156a5e83.JPG

Oh my gosh! Do we get ERT on Medusa too?

IMG_2359.JPG.2aa11dd0f7e8314749fc41fa8bd56543.JPG

I found this interesting. They have the TV screens working with new video. Kit Hoover talks about how Six Flags is operating. SFDK has these TV screens throughout the park.

IMG_2358.JPG.24b96eb1155a90bd4cbfdad065b1bd5b.JPG

This is the camel from the front. They told me that the camel is just over a year old.

IMG_2357.JPG.5aa542d2ab13dae9e51db0ebd3c51ff2.JPG

We always need a pic of Aligator Isle.

IMG_2356.JPG.32d56011077fcedc60ddb0224ac7a1d8.JPG

I wanted to show the new shirts at SFDK. I think they stand out quite a bit.

IMG_2353.JPG.a917a6eb0c28367a00392f5c9d214fe2.JPG

Oh yeah, it's the extra head banging.

IMG_2352.JPG.2176d158229b23ae8187ecde41a90ce0.JPG

I think I wasn't supposed to ride this for some reason.

IMG_2351.JPG.344d16eeef52cd597f16d569fe3b1d22.JPG

I rode it anyway, even though Gyendolynne wanted nothing to do with it.

IMG_2350.JPG.6ffc2f46352185600a5b250d8e5e400f.JPG

I didn't care.

IMG_2348.JPG.538b7c3f2110e8fd81c9a583dbd6d140.JPG

Yep, it's on Boomerang....

IMG_2349.JPG.570a55748b22aae9e21a01f4affde5dd.JPG

Now, it's time for the ERT! Can you see what the ERT is on?

IMG_2347.JPG.854b2593f57c8c5f7534dd1f0a38c3ba.JPG

Hi Gyendolynne!

IMG_2346.JPG.274d7dd2abd4f052f0cf13db18dde477.JPG

This is the youngest camel at SFDK.

IMG_2345.JPG.691c07c5790ab7ca2eae9b98b1c12f30.JPG

Front entrance, not crowded

IMG_2344.JPG.76aa18d17f88e7166eebb33c65020806.JPG

I really liked all the painting they did last year.

IMG_2343.JPG.a3a961b53416e9aad8e294e2a9d05ab9.JPG

This is where the new Tony Hawk roller coaster will be.

IMG_2342.JPG.be3b7270fc493580585e578b277c418c.JPG

We see Medusa on the way and it is running!

IMG_2341.JPG.503e74633d9c7d27aeed130f3b047b95.JPG

The all important tram ride from the parking lot.

This was the line for it.
