The animal looks like a skinny Tanuki. Sometimes they are called a raccoon-dog. Play Animal Crossing DS sometime and see that the animal that owns the shop is a Tanuki. (Nook)

Thanks for posting all of the awesome pictures of Japan!

Reading the TR's and looking at the pictures is making me want to go to Japan.
