Erik Johnson
While I have to wait to get some WDW retro park photos from my folks later this week I thought I could post this retro photo TR of Orlando's Splendid China. This trip to S.C. was taken in 1996 right after I returned from my first trip to China, so it was fun to see many of the full sized buildings I saw on my trip shrunk down into miniature size. The park has since closed in 2003. Here is a link for some for information about the park. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/FLKISchina.html Ok onto pictures. Hooray! we are going to Splendid China. This is Daisy, she taught me a few naughty words in Chinese such as..."Wang ba dan!" Lit translation: "King Turtle Egg" or "King Eight Egg" but its the worst thing you can call someone in China. Daisy is teaching her old boyfriend Chinese. "Zhong Guo", which means "middle kingdom", is mandarin chinese for "China." Daisy is now teaching us how the tiger attacks in China. "Lao-Hu" is mandarin chinese for Tiger. "Lao hu xi huan chi ren ruo." Means: "Tigers like to eat human flesh." "Peek-a-boo! I see you." Anyone ever seen Gremlins? In the movie Gizmo is called a "mo gwai" which is cantonese for devil ghost/demon. It would have been fun to find a bowling ball for this area. Daisy, "Wo kan Di Tu Ni Kuai Yuan!" (Lit translation: I see Disney Happy Gardens!!!) This fool is missing Leanne, because she was in Greece when this picture is taken. Well, its time for us to go. "Wo de hao peng you, zai jian! I forget this person's name, but he sure looks like he is picking his butt in China." It really would have been fun to play Godzilla here. Though Godzilla is found in Japan, not China. "Feed us candy!" Well the fake lake is certainly more clean than the real summer palace's lake in Bei Jing....(northern capital). This has to be the laziest Lion, it had plenty of "snack" opportunities. All this little girl wanted was a drink of apple juice.
robbalvey
Someone had some photos of this park about a year after it closed. And it was really sad to see those. Even though this place didn't have any major "attrations" it's still sad to see a dilapitated amusement park. Thanks for posting! --Robb
Nrthwnd
Miniatures attractions are always cool to check out. There's a permanent indoor display over on Vancouver Island I should remember to check out. I think it even has a (gasp) mini-MIDWAY display that actually work. Thanks for the Retro-TR, Erik!
