Nice to see someone finally do something with that site. It's been a big ugly eyesore for years. Also to anyone interested, they have started to work on the site of the former sahara to transform it into sls las vegas. They have a big banner in front saying coming fall 2014.
Going to be a big couple of years on the north end of the Strip, with SLS opening next year and Resorts World in 2016. Makes me wonder if something will happen with the Fountainbleu site soon, since that one is so far along. This could also be some encouragement to MGM to remodel or just fix up Circus Circus over the next 10 years... it could happen.
I wonder how structurally sound that place still is? I'm not an engineer, so I have no idea if the structure sitting there exposed to the elements for 3 years would mean they will have to start from scratch again or not?
Genting Senior Vice President of Development Christian Goode said the unfinished Echelon buildings, including hotel towers, foundations and a parking structure, would be incorporated into Resorts World, which could expedite construction time.
The weather is not that harsh in Vegas. Shane stored Lighting Bolt out in the open for years before selling it.
If they are basically just restarting where they left off, the construction should seem really quick since the ground work and utilities are basically done, its just a matter of installing the structures now (which is obviously not a small task but gives them a one up). It said that the last company already spent over a billion on construction so they have obviously done a lot.
