Operation ended on March 31, 2019. Thank you for your many years of patronage.

Kind of a bummer though as it really was the last remaining boat chute rides that many US parks used to have back in the 1900's. It wasn't an intense ride, but was something that had to be ridden because of the history behind it. It wouldn't surprise me if it closed due to popularity as it never had a line when I visited and only ran one side.

From my 2017 visit. You had to walk up to the top of the stairs and board the boat between the two ramps.

Riders would board the boat, tighten their seatbelt, then a roulette board is spun to determined how wet you would get from the water cannons that would shoot off when you splash at the bottom.

An attendant would stand on the front of the boat during the drop and then guide the boat to a separate unloading dock with a pole at the bottom. They would then hook the boat up to a towing system and take it back up to the top of the ramp.

I don't believe I even knew about this (which almost made me question if I've really been to Sea Paradise, but I remember only caring about a couple rides there). Sounds like a neat little water ride; your write-up in particular makes it seem like it was pretty cool!

Made me feel sad. I haven't even tried to ride it. Too bad it closed so soon. It seemed like a pretty fun ride though. Good read.

Second bummer for many of us.

First was when they stopped the 'boat jumpers', and now fully closing the ride.

Look how high he goes!!!!

And of course they would then bow to their boat of guests and guide them back to the shore.

Keep in mind this is not the first time they've "closed" this ride. I guess if we see the attraction actually being torn out, then it's gone for good. But this is at least the second, maybe third time it's been closed!

  • 1 year later...

^ I loved Blue Fall. And in 2013 (TPR Japan Tour),

I got David to ride it with me... and he loved it, too!

Hope it's not closing for good.

And, of the three years I visited Sea Paradise (w/TPR in

2007 '11 '13), I believe the SplashChute only operated in 2007.

Yep, it was THIS TALL! (TPR 2007 Japan Tour)

It was confirmed closed a while ago. The park had a lot of bad press last year from a red panda dying in the new exhibit, the whale shark dying and Surf Coaster having a collision in the station in August 2019. I had assumed Surf Coaster would get the axesince even small collisions are a big deal in Japan but on February 20th Sea Paradise put out a statement about it reopening: http://www.seaparadise.co.jp/file/202002surfcoaster.pdf

Yeah I didn't realize that we didn't confirm this on the forum but I had been following the Blue Fall and Surf Coaster issues for a while now. Blue Fall is totally done for and by some miracle Surf Coaster isn't!!! Japan is a weird country in many ways and this is just one of them.

^So many of the Japanese amusement parks are closing up/losing rides/in danger of closing and this virus is not going to help. I really hope they have some kind of renaissance in the next ten years or so.

This park is kind of falling apart, it would seem. There wasn't a TON on offer before from the rides side and now there's even less. Blue fall was a pretty fun ride, for sure!

The aquarium areas are still nice. Honestly, I always felt the main draw was the aquarium and the rides were just a little extra to make it stand out from some of the aquariums in Tokyo. With 3 aquarium areas to visit, I saw a ton of crowds watching the shows and trying to touch the belugas and dolphins in the open area but not really that many people on the rides.

I know it's got a great roller-coaster with it's mega-lite but I kind of feel Tobu Zoo is kind of the same. Less than Sea Paradise since Tobu Zoo also has a water park to make it feel more of a complete day out but with Regina now closed and they removed their Intamin drop tower a while ago, it feels like they're winding down their theme park to smaller, less expensive to run/maintain rides too. I remember getting off the subway and the exit towards the zoo had a timeline of rides and they had removed and replaced a ton of rides over the years looking at the pictures and dates.
