August 9th: Tivoli Gröna Lund

On the 8th of August we have visited the Vasa museum, located on the same Island as Gröna Lund, so we took the ferry onto the island and got a first great view of the park. After the Vasa museum we continued with some sightseeing through Stockholm and finished the day with some ice cream. :Pr
On August 9th it was finally time for the last park of this tour, Tivoli Gröna Lund. This day I went alone to Gröna Lund because it got a bit too much parks for my mum the last week, so she then visited some more museums in Stockholm. But since almost all museums are on the same island as Gröna Lund, we traveled together there again by ferry.
We arrived about 15mins before the park opened, so I got my admission and all-rides wristband and got in line to enter the park. When the park opened I went first to Ikaros, the new Intamin Sky Jump. A very fun ride with a breathtaking view over the bay of Stockholm and over the park. In my opinion I enjoyed Ikaros more than Falcon`s Fury at Busch Gardens Tampa, because the seats swing a lot more and the brakes are set way better, so that you fall almost into the station before you stop, unlike FF where you stop like 80ft above the station and are going down the rest very slowly. What I also want to mention is that I have ridden Ikaros A LOT this day. If I would have to guess I would say about 50 times. Why? Because it had the shortest line with 5-10mins in the day and 0 in the evening, while the other rides had around 15-45mins. Then I always could stay seated if there was a group of 7 who came, so I filled up the empty seats like a single rider. (Single rider line was closed that day) And after several times the ride ops knew me and already told me if there were 7. And the evening was just like ERT. For this I also want to say thank you to the awesome ride ops at Ikaros, they were fantastic. :lover:
I also got to talk with the ride ops, when they had to stand at the entrance to check tickets and they told me that like every minute a GP asks them if this is the entrance to the blue coaster (Jetline), but as soon as they told them it is the entrance fore Ikaros and pointed at the tower, the GP was like "OMG, no, I will never ride this in my life!" :lmao:

I also rode the other rides, not just Ikaros, so I give a feedback to some of them:
Insane: "What the hell was that" is the perfect description of this ride, or "INSANE". My first ride was compared with the others I had later nothing, but even this ride was crazy. The second ride was even crazier, as you can see in my POV below, but the most insane ride I had was in the afternoon, where I rode it together with a mother on my side, while on the other side were her two daughters (around 10 years or so), so we were hanging diagonal down on the lift, but what then happend was just sick. We were spinning like crazy just doing one flip after another on the whole trip down. And we both couldn´t stop laughing. That´s a ride I will never forget!
Twister: Fun, small and twisty woodie, but I didn´t enjoyed it as much, since it had some rattle and didn´t deliver what other people have told about it.
Jetline: good old Schwarzkopf classic, smooth, an inside a huge spaghetti bowl with Vilda Musen, Twister and Kvasten. My favourite part of Jetline is the twist down after the first MCBR, wich was very well done and some nice G´s afterwards in the valley.
Pop-Expressen: I am a big fan of Huss Break Dance like this is one, but Pop-Expressen wasn´t really good for me. It looks very cool in this hall with the fog and the lights, but if you ride it you know what I mean. First of the lapbar, which wasn´t just your standard pole like a normal Break Dance, they added a second pole under the first one, so if you are a person with a bit more than the average waist size, your stomach gets squished! And the ride program is also very slow, compared to all the Break Dances traveling around on the funfairs.

I really liked the visit at Gröna Lund and I will come back as soon as I can. I kinda felt in love with this park and was so sad when I had to leave. It really has it´s own special atmosphere, or even magic, especially when it gets dark and all the lights switch on. :lover:

And now the photos and two POV´s from this day at Gröna Lund.

Insane:

Thank you. Yes it is, especially from the lower area where the kiddie rides are, it just looks sooo massive.

Thanks. Yes Sweden is a must do for all coaster enthusiasts.

cfc wrote:Excellent report! I really enjoyed Kolmarden, and not just for Wildfire. Their animal exhibits were very well done, and I liked their "aerial safari" tram ride.

Nice to hear, yeah Kolmarden has a lot to offer, but I was just lacking on time, otherwise I ould have done the cable car as well.

Yeah it was a great trip. And it was as well our summer vacation together and we both had a good time.

What a terrific trip report! Sounds like you (and your mom) had an amazing time! Loved your description of Wildfire - reading it along with the video, I felt like I was riding it WITH you! Zero G - whoa! :b (I'll have to read more about the animals your Mom got a chance to see. I'm sure that's a great area of the park! Roller coasters versus wildlife ???? I think I'd have to make time for BOTH!

Great report! Did you ride Twister in the very back? I thought the coaster was overrated until I rode it in that seat. There was a pretty noticeable difference even between row 5 and 6. All the steep drops had great air in row 6.
Top 5 Wood- Lightning Rod, Phoenix, Boulder Dash, Wildfire, Outlaw Run
Top 5 Steel- Steel Vengeance, Twisted Colossus, Expedition GeForce, Iron Rattler, Fury 325

Thank you. Yeah wildlife is the biggest part of Kolmården for which you need a lot of time to see everything, but I didn't watch a lot at all of the animals, I was just focused on Wildfire.

Yes I rode it once in the front (morning) and once in the back (late afternoon), but it still wasn't that impressive IMO.
