Review: "How The Grinch Stole Christmas The Musical"

Recommended Posts

Tonight Theme Park Review was invited to experience "How The Grinch Stole Christmas: The Musical" at the Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts. The new (year old) venue hosts world class entertainment throughout the year including traveling Broadway shows and more.

Fans of Dr. Seuss' stories, enthusiasts of the classic animated feature, viewers of the live action Jim Carrey-starring film and even the annual Universal Studios' Grinchmas visitors will all enjoy this familiar but unique take on the timeless story. The Grinch shines as the star's main lead (as he should) and the young Cindy Loo-Who charms as well with an extraordinary voice an a great on-stage relationship with the title character. The audience particularly loved the occasional breaking of the fourth wall--the cast never hesitates to talk directly to the audience without a subtle wink. A great surprise along the same lines was the inclusion of a sing along to the tune of "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch, which had no problem assuming that everyone in the audience knew the words. The soundtrack for the show relies almost entirely on new content rather than drawing from the existing songs of previous adaptations, which allows for even the most well-versed Grinch fan to be pleasantly surprised when they see the show.

This show has great heart, a holiday message, fantastic music and hilarious audience interaction that when added together makes for an unforgettable experience worth seeing! With a resident Grinch-fan at my side, the show received positive marks from her as well!

How The Grinch Stole Christmas: The Musical continues its run at the Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts through Sunday, December 13th, 2015 so grab your tickets and check out the show as soon as possible!

The look of The Grinch is familiar but not exactly what you'd expect if you've seen the movie or Grinchmas at Universal.

One unique element of the show is the use of an older Max the Dog as the narrator of the story.

More familiar is the inclusion of a younger Max the Dog, who has a voice in the show.
