So many sad and heart breaking incidents. Though after visiting this park and seeing some of the less then steller habitats these animals call home, I'm not too surprised there are issues.

I'd be more than willing to bet that none of the accounts were "over-exagerrated." The one thing about most trainers in zoos and aquariums is that they're animal lovers first and foremost. They treat the facility's animals as if they're family, and it really does effect them emotionally when the animals are neglected. You'd probably hear MANY more stories like this from other facilities if employees weren't so afraid of whistle-blowing.

Also, keep in mind we're talking about a nation that still legally allows up to 400,00 harp seals to be clubbed to death each year. And yet some "enthusiasts" are more concerned about boycotting "fastlane" procedures instead. :|

Reports like this make you really appreciate Sea World.

A real shame if all is true.

This is genuinely heartbreaking, it actually almost brought me to tears. There's one thing to say for an animal that can run from its poor conditions, but marine animals are just stuck there to suffer.

What happens now? I have to imagine that this sort of negligence is punishable if taken to court, no?

^ Possibly, and I would surely hope so, but the article did say that Canada doesn't have any regulations on sea animals in captivity. I see this incident changing that real fast.

Wow, well I suppose I should re-do my Marineland TR now as some of the comedy I used may no longer be fitting when I finalize it.

I do have to agree with Elissa, if it is/was happening, you couldn't tell it. The only complaint I had was you couldn't find a place to get a drink at 10am in the back of the park. It is older and the tanks are smaller compared to Sea World but the animals seemed happy.

The only thing I noticed on the trip was that some of the deer didn't look all that healthy.

Someone one told me on the TPR trip, and I don't remember who, that the orca came from Seaworld with the understanding that they were to build a larger performing stadium and breed them. Since none of that came about Seaworld wants the orca back but they refuse. Probably don't want to lose one of their star attractions. Take that rumor with a grain of salt.

^^I think I told you that, and I'm pretty sure it's fact and not a rumor at all.
