Photo TR: Garbels and Friends! North East Trip with TPR

Postby Jakizle » Mon Aug 08, 2011 2:09 pm

Holy cow...lets just say the 2011 TPR North East Trip was AMAZING! I joined at the last minute (after doing 4 official TPR trips the last 3 years, I could not miss a trip this summer) and I'm so incredibly glad I got too. The North East was one of those areas I really wanted to actually conquer (leaving only the NW left...)so joining was a no brainer. In addition Piers was doing the trip so it was a great chance to hang out before Halloween in October! And besides, Robb and Elissa put together an incredible itinerary filled with special perks (loads of ERT, photo walkbacks, etc) and included lots of good food. There really is no better way to travel around the world riding coasters.

Anyways theres so much I want to say about how great this trip was but I just don't have the words to do so ;). It was great meeting everyone on the trip that was touring with TPR for the first time and to see great friends from previous trips. I love you guys!

I'll just let the photos tell the story :)

First thing's first...step 1 to a TPR trip is to fly to your destination!
IMG_0004.JPG
Better yet, on my flight I was able to watch Baggage! It's like I was on the TPR bus already...so exciting!
IMG_0005.JPG
Engine eat clouds.
IMG_0008.JPG
As soon as we entered Jersey the weather was crappy!!!
IMG_0009.JPG
Engine eat Jersey.
IMG_0014.JPG
For all of you fellow sports fans out there, we flew right over the Meadowlands, home to the football Giant and NY Jets.
IMG_0016.JPG
And landing in Newark means flying parallel to New York city!!!
IMG_0018.JPG
One more look :)
IMG_0025.JPG
...and then I landed in Newark. Let the TPR North East trip begin!
DSC_0002.JPG
on Friday morning we embarked on our first bus ride to Quassy from Newark. Hi Piers!
DSC_0006.JPG
A few hours later, we found Quassy in the middle of nowhere Connecticut ;) (Literally, Middlebury :P)
DSC_0015.JPG
The park walked our group right on up to the station of the Wooden Warrior for special double rides!
DSC_0019.JPG
This was my seat of choice! Oh yeah, hello sexy new Timberliners!
DSC_0022.JPG
The park was very happy to have us! They even had multiple news crews there to cover the story of us geeks traveling from all over the world to ride Wooden Warrior
DSC_0024.JPG
David and Spears are excited for their first ride...including rider cam! Gotta love the Go Pros :)
DSC_0031.JPG
The first train of TPR arrives...I think they liked it!!!
DSC_0041.JPG
Ride op panel for the geeks interested in this type of stuff ;)
DSC_0045.JPG
Anyways after my first ride I was shocked about how much airtime this ride has! It kicks all sorts of butt for its small stature. It just flings you over hills right from the start!
DSC_0055.JPG
Gotta love the station fly by! How they fit this ride in was really cool.
DSC_0059.JPG
Garbels with the coaster :)
DSC_0063.JPG
My absolute favorite part of the ride was coming out of the tunnel in the back seat! Sustained airtime heaven!
DSC_0075.JPG
Erik and Patrick also most definitely approve of their ride in the rear!!!
DSC_0077.JPG
We seee you Piers and Soupy...
DSC_0085.JPG
What is Piers doing to Soupy???
DSC_0087.JPG
Anyways back to Wooden Warrior. This thing hauls butt through the circuit!
DSC_0089.JPG
Aww how cute! Kidtums will be tall enough to ride next time!
DSC_0090.JPG
Excitement!!! Everyone loved the Wooden Warrior.
DSC_0093.JPG
Just in case you were wondering what the ride entrance looks like.
DSC_0098.JPG
I'm not even sure.....
DSC_0100.JPG
Oh yeah, they totally have another credit here. Soupy made me ride it again.
DSC_0102.JPG
These things are pretty fun for a childs ride. And we see you Skycoastin' Steve!
DSC_0105.JPG
It was already time for lunch...gotta love when parks put together stuff like this for the group!
DSC_0108.JPG
They even gave us all a piece of wood from the ride with the logo and everything! How incredibly cool. It even made it through security (carry on) no problem :)
DSC_0110.JPG
piers knows how to handle his beer.
DSC_0112.JPG
Domo loves roller coaster and beer (more on this in the next update ;) )
DSC_0114.JPG
I don't even know what to say here either :P
DSC_0121.JPG
The train ride gives a great view of the overall Wooden Warrior site
DSC_0125.JPG
The first drop may look really small and cute...but it will totally kick your ass in the back seat! Love it!
DSC_0139.JPG
New for the train ride in 2011..scary smoking guy in the woods!
DSC_0148.JPG
All I see is AIRTIME!
DSC_0151.JPG
I felt so bad for taking a flash photo of the shooting gallery...oops! Totally scared a girl on the midway :P
DSC_0152.JPG
Must get more free beer from the our Birthday Party room!
DSC_0156.JPG
Ok, time for one more round of Wooden Warrior porn, I promise!
DSC_0167.JPG
Just an incredible layout design really, Gravity Group definitely outdid themselves with what they had to work with!
DSC_0170.JPG
Another train of TPR riders climbs the lift hill! Most of us spent our time here riding WW over and over again :)
DSC_0171.JPG
First drop through the lift!
DSC_0174.JPG
Take the tunnel! The placement of the tunnel works really well on this ride, great touch!
DSC_0185.JPG
How about a few shots from the air?
DSC_0188.JPG
A look down on the station and the queue...I just like this shot for some reason
DSC_0195.JPG
DSC_0197.JPG
It's almost as if the ride launches down the first drop!
DSC_0203.JPG
..and the train is still flying around the last bend!
DSC_0206.JPG
Nerd shot.
DSC_0209.JPG
How about one last back row ride??? (I did right in the front at some point, but it just had good quick pops while the back had great sustained airtime)
DSC_0215.JPG
Soupy! You can't take your wood on the woodie!
DSC_0223.JPG
Another picture of Garbels with Wooden Warrior. Whoosh!
DSC_0227.JPG
In case you didn't notice, the ride actually uses the terrain VERY well. That is a triple up after the tunneled turnaround!
DSC_0231.JPG
Oh yeah, they have other rides here too...
DSC_0238.JPG
We rode the classic slide at some point...always fun!
DSC_0242.JPG
Domo + Park entrance! Forgot they actually have this now. The park has improved SO much since 2008, great to see!
DSC_0243.JPG
Domo + Coaster = WIN
DSC_0246.JPG
I love this shot.
DSC_0248.JPG
Here they come! I see more airtime!
DSC_0249.JPG
Here is your free onride photo Patrick and Chris ;)
DSC_0251.JPG
Gotta love the look of a brand new wood coaster.
DSC_0253.JPG
Group photo!!!
DSC_0255.JPG
Sadly it was time to leave Quassy...but our next stop that night was Lake Compounce!!!
DSC_0193.JPG
I wonder what the bus drivers did while we were at the park...
DSC_0257.JPG
Well we found out one thing Bryan did while we were gone...

END :)

Lake Compounce tomorrow, featuring epic meal time with Piers :)

Another priceless intro, Jake, to a great photo TR- and I can't wait to see the next pages- something really rocks about this, especially Piers vs. the Quassy sign!

One thing I always wonder is how people manage to explain things like giant wooden blocks and roller coaster wheels in their luggage after a trip. Awesome start!

They didn't even ask to look in my bag! I guess a giant wooden block didn't look too suspicious on the x-ray.

On the Deep South trip when I took home a big twisted metal strip of Rampage track they did search my bag but let me take it once I explained what it was!

Good luck to TPDave and others traveling home with big road wheels :P
