Roller Coasters in the RAW on Blu-Ray

Hey everyone!

As you know TPR likes to get input from our members before we launch anything new.

At the moment we are considering putting our Roller Coasters in the RAW series on Blu-Ray. Please take the poll above and answer based on the following details:

  • All footage with be in true HD. (1920x1080) This is NOT standard definition footage up-converted to HD.
  • The Blu-Ray disc would contain at least 30 different coasters
  • About 1/2 of the coasters would be HD versions from the DVD RAW series, but obviously in MUCH higher quality.
  • About 1/2 would be brand new, never before released footage.
  • The Blu-Ray would be about 2 hours long.
  • It would come in a standard Blu-Ray case.
  • We would sell the Blu-Ray for $24.99.
  • Club TPR members would be allowed to use their $10 off Coupon.

The current list of coasters includes: Intimidator 305, Rampage, Jetline, Fireball, Afterburn, Prowler, Cannonball, Piraten, Manta, Flight Deck (CGA), Tranan, Scorcher, Xcelerator, Silver Bullet, Giant Dipper (Belmont), Vortex (CGA), Thunderbird, Thunder Coaster, Vuoristorata, Balder, Insane, Rustusu Ultra Twister, Daemonen, Dive Coaster (Happy Valley Shanghai), Tornado (Sarkanniemi), Rutchebanen (Bakken), Nessie, Revenge of the Mummy (USH), Flight of the Phoenix, Loop The Loop (Sendai Highland)

Click the Intimidator 305 link and watch the HD version to get an *idea* of picture quality.

Please note - We are looking to get information about people who are interested in the Blu-Ray disc. We are well aware of other distribution options for HD and this thread is not about discussing those. This is about getting information if you are interested in a Blu-Ray version of Roller Coasters in the RAW. FYI - A downloadable version of this disc is NOT an option right now.

Answer the poll question and then please post any comments or questions you might have!

Thank you very much for your input!

So Rollercoasters in the Raw is definitely not my thing. I enjoy the Coaster Expedition DVD's exponentially more. That being said, watching a TPR produced On-Ride video in true 1080p is the next level for all you coaster porn lovers. The Rollercoaster in the Raw fans (and I've read there are many of you out there) are looking to vicariously ride the coaster even if they aren't able. Blu-Ray will bring you one step closer.. ... With all respect to the six million dollar man; We have the technology, we can watch it better.

Rollercoasters on BLU-RAY!! Crap thats awesome. When i bought coaster expedition i plugged it into my ps3 and i was amazed. If a standard DVD was that good i cant imagine how great blu-ray would be!! I would definitely buy one.

This is a great idea! I own a PS3, and our family will probably get an HD TV in Italy, so I think the Roller Coasters in the RAW series on Blu-Ray would work great for me. I don't own any of the RAW DVDs, so I can probably enjoy them better if I get them in Blu-Ray instead.

This is a great idea, and something I'm really glad to see you guys doing. I voted for the last choice, however, simply because of what I wrote in the previous DVD thread, hoping that someday there will be a way to purchase an HD file over the internet much like the .mp4 downloads now. I don't own a Blu-Ray player, and don't really have the money to buy one, but the HDTV is hooked up to a computer that can play HD files/games/other stuff that way.

Still, despite my different answer, I really think this is a great idea and I hope it turns out to be really successful for you guys. The RAW series is perfect for HD viewing, and I can just imagine riding some of my favorite coasters on a big-screen HDTV. Keep making these awesome movies and doing what you guys do for the coaster community!

Oh heck yeah! I love Blu-Ray and I've always wanted to watch roller coasters in full awesome HD (not just Youtube compression crap) so it would be like a dream come true!

I think Intamin should make a donkey!

Yes I would definitely be interested. I currently own a PS3 and a HDTV so I would buy a TPR Blu-ray practically as soon as it comes out. Although I think I would enjoy a Coaster Expedition Blu-ray more, having HD pov's of roller coasters all on one disc is very enticing. That said, I will definitely use my Club TPR towards this when it comes out.

The technology exists currently to sell uncompressed 1080p movies over the internet, but the files size would be cost prohibitive to host and time prohibitive for most to download. Also ,if your computer monitor is at least 1920x1080 (the minimum resolution for true hd) you probably own a blu-ray player as well.

This should be the holy grail to all you Coaster in the Raw fans.

We are still a ways off from being able to do a CE disc on Blu-Ray mainly due to the source material. The source for the next CE disc is all in Standard Def and then the one after that is kind of "mixed"

Maybe, so I didn't answer the poll. At that price point I'd be selective. I'd definitely be looking for more than 60 minutes of content.

It would also depend on the image quality. If the cameras you shoot with can dish out the quality, it would be a much more worthwhile investment.

There you go, an honest unvarnished answer.
