Thanks for the suggestions! As a non-native Floridians, we haven't heard of a surprising number of places that we'd probably love.

The Miami area is a bit of a trek from Orlando, but we definitely plan on checking it all out, eventually.

Might I suggest the Brevard Zoo? It's gone through a lot of renovations in the past few years, and it's a really nice little park. (Plus it's got a train, so... there's that.)

The next Oddventure should be the Water Ski Museum and Fantasy of Flight in scenic Polk County, off exit 44 on I-4. I think cheesiness will be had in the museum!

^^Frankly, most zoos seem to be copies of each other, these days. They all have trains, gardens, children's play areas, etc. The Jacksonville Zoo is nice, and all, but not terribly interesting, in an Oddventure sort of way. I'm bored to death, every time we get dragged there for field trips. :?r

We've been to the Tampa Lowry Zoo twice now, and quite liked it. I just haven't gotten around to doing an update yet. How it survives right down the road from Busch Gardens Tampa, I'll never know. But I'm glad it has. I agree, though, that most zoos feel quite similar to one another.

We had a zoo membership, when we first moved here, and really enjoyed it. It just got old, after a while. ;)

Might a suggest an exciting trip to Ocala for Jai Alai and the Museum of Drag Racing.

While in the Ocala area, be sure to drop by Cafe Risque. :)

The Florida Aquarium in Tampa has quite a few interesting and unique aspects to it. And yet, it seems to lack a true signature attraction (like the Georgia Aquarium's Whale Sharks, or the world's longest shark tunnel at Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies). Still, it's an aquarium, and a big one, and we like aquariums.
