RIP: Phantasialand Jet

Postby WillMontu » Sun Nov 09, 2008 5:27 pm

According to Screamscape:

Park News - (11/7/08) According to the pictures posted here the park has demolished the big fountain from Old Berlin street and has started to take apart the Phantasialand Jet monorail system that has been in operation since 1974. You can see a few older pictures of the Jet at the Monorail Society website.

A sad day for Scott, Jow, and many others. Unfortunately, it looks like it's headed for the scrap heap

I was fortunate enough to ride it earlier this year during the TPR trip

I shot a few pictures and video during its last months of operation

Had America voted for PMW, this Schwarzkopf masterpiece would probably live on!

Why do I still have a donkey title???

As much as I like Schwarzkopf and monorails, I'm not sad to see this one go. It was like riding in a cramped oven. It was also really slow and only had one station so it didn't function as transport. It did look pretty cool though.

^yes I am sad to see it go just for nostalgic sake, but have to agree it was very dated, cramped and really didn't serve any purpose other than to ride a 1970's idealistic vision of transportation.

BTW, I love that last picture, it has something for everyone. :b

At least I got to ride it this summer. I agree it wasn't really transportation, it was more of a ride since it only has one station.

I loved how interwoven the ride was with so many others, especially in the Old west/mexico area.

Are you American? Are you nice?

It's a pity that they get rid of it. It was such an unique train.

I don`t find a thread about the new ride "Wakobato" but i don`t want to open a new thread. So its not about Drakarium but about the new, very nicely themed SplashBattle. So here are two Video from the new ride if the Phantasialand in Germany:
