Dorney Park plans to update this longtime attraction

A popular attraction at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom will be getting a makeover for the 2020 season.

The multilevel Island Water Works, a featured fun spot at the summertime recreational destination since 1998, will be replaced this winter with an updated version, Vice President/General Manager Mike Fehnel said during the Board of Commissioners meeting Wednesday in South Whitehall Township.

“It is time to renew it,” he said.

Commissioners granted the amusement park’s request to waive land development review requirements for replacing the attraction, which takes up 0.3 acres of the property at 3830 Dorney Park Road.

The project will result in a net decrease in stormwater flow because that intake will be utilized by the attraction upon hitting the wet deck and won’t enter the storm sewers, according to a project narrative submitted to the township.

The three-level activity area features misters, jet sprays and target shooting with water guns.

This is definitely good news for Wildwater Kingdom fans.

MIA got a new one in 2011 that I was pretty impressed with. I will assume this one would be just as impressive if not more
After riding Lightning Run I can not understand why parks are not lining up to buy some Hyper GTX models. That little ride rocks

Island Water Works wasn't in the best condition. A lot of the faucets and other features no longer work. I'm guessing the new version will probably have some slides attached.

I’ve never been to Dorsey before, and I’ll be going next week... any suggested plan of attack for the order of the coasters?

Wild Mouse first because of the slow loading and the rule of no more than 2 adults per car. Then it doesn't matter, everything else should be a walk on or station wait.

According to queue-times, Dorney is among the most crowded CF parks other than the Point. Seems I usually hear it's noncrowded. Which is it?

Queue Times is either glitched or Dorney's app is wrong. I frequently see 60 - 90 minute waits for the coasters on Queue Times and even Talon at 120 minutes which I am guessing never has really happened. I average 10 - 12 visits to the park a year since 2006 and have seen 30+ minute waits for the coasters maybe 3 or 4 times. Last Tuesday, Steel Force was sending out trains with less than 10 riders.

I saw on snapchat that the park was parking cars down in gravewalkers, which usually means they are expecting huge crowds

Here's some info on the current capital plan:

2020
- WhiteWater will provide the new water fortress and the entire "island" will receive upgrades
- Winterfest coming
- Thunderhawk will get its tunnel back (originally planned for 2019 and cut due to budget constraints)

2021
- modernization of Lollipop Lagoon and path connecting center of WWK
- Greek mythology visits the old Stinger site.
