Lagoon Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

As someone mentioned earlier, the Utah Olympic Park in Park City is a must do if you have an extra day. They have an all day pass which gives you unlimited access to all of the summer activities like zip lines, alpine slides, ropes courses, drop tower, and tubing down the ski jump hills (my personal favorite). There’s even a bobsled experience that I’ve great things about but haven’t tried yet. You may want to check the schedule and make sure the summer activities are still open when you visit.

We try to hit up the Olympic Park every summer along with a Lagoon trip as it’s not a bad drive from Vegas. Lagoon is a funky little park with some fun coasters and classic flats. Cannibal was a real game changer for them and I’d love to see the park add another ride of that caliber.

You can bring a cooler of your own food/drink into the park and leave it in one of many unreserved picnic pavilions, saving your spot at a picnic table. There will be a whole bunch of other coolers there too and nobody messes with them. You can bring in beer and drink it wherever but not in glass bottles.

There's a public trail called the Lagoon trail that runs around the outside of the park, part of which used to be the tracks for one of Lagoon's train rides. It's kinda weird and it shows some views of the park that most people never see. The trail starts in the campground.

Oh, and the Utah Olympic park with its zip line, slope tubing, alpine slides, etc is a different place than the Park City Mountain Resort with its zip line, alpine coaster, alpine slides, etc. It seems like people were confusing the two maybe. There's another alpine coaster, zip line and alpine slide at Snowbird too if you're really into it.

Only the two bridges from the PVRR were used on the Lagoon Trail. The North entrance of the trail is off of Lagoon Lane.

I mean that it partially follows the path of the old PVRR, like past the zoo and such.

Utah is also where 'The Void' originated, and there's one here. https://www.thevoid.com/ The Void was originally intended to be part of Evermore theme park, which is apparently opening this year, though it doesn't seem they'll actually have rides (yet?). https://www.facebook.com/evermorepark/

The Lagoon Trail uses none of the PVRR ROW.

The trail goes right past the Zoo exhibit that was on the PVRR. There is no other reason for that exhibit to exist. 18 years ago you told me the PVRR never existed and that my very clear memory of it was mistaken so I probably won't take what you say about its layout as fact.

The Lagoon Trail was built around the outside perimeter of the Park, not within it.

I never told you 18 years ago the PVRR never existed, as the trains were my favorite rides in the park as a kid. lol Old Iron Sides on the other hand is another issue altogether, especially when I'd been told in no uncertain terms that the PVRR and the Bamburger Miniature Railroad were the only train rides in PV by the one who would know the most about it.

Also, Braden has an article on the PVRR on the Lagoon History Project that I heavily contributed to, as well as the LIF Wiki.

I went to the park for a few hours today. Roller Coaster is running both trains (and is a real people-eater, might I add). Cannibal and Wicked were both using their two load stations and running several cars so lines were very manageable. Samurai was also running very consistently despite a minor delay while I was in line. The only downside was that Colossus was running one train, and the line was almost to the entrance (which I have never seen on this ride). At first I thought it was because of the rain, but even once it cleared up and got sunny, they never brought out a second train.

The enterprise is also fully assembled (from what I can tell) next to the bathrooms by Cannibal. I'm glad they relocated it rather than removed it like so many parks are doing with theirs.

If Fire Dragon's line was only to the entrance, that's only a 15 minute wait, or at least should be. Maybe the second train wasn't signed off this morning due to the inclement weather. Sounds like the bugs from last Sunday were worked out on Coaster, so that's good. Too bad Coaster won't be as much of a people eater now.

We're headed to Lagoon in early September (it looks like the last weekend before their haunt event) and I'm wondering if there's anything else worth doing in the Salt lake City area.

I realized there's one more thing that may be of interest, so I'm going to consolidate all the suggestions here to make me feel like I don't live in a theme park wasteland:

Lagoon (Amusement park)

http://lagoonpark.com/

Evermore (Heavily themed experience park with no rides - opening soon)

https://www.evermore.com/

The Void (Unique VR adventure)

https://www.thevoid.com/

Park City Mountain Resort (Ski area with alpine coaster, zip lines, etc)

https://www.parkcitymountain.com/explore-the-resort/activities/summer-activities.aspx

Snowbird (Ski area with alpine coaster, zip lines, etc)

https://www.snowbird.com/summer-activities/

Utah Olympic Park (Extreme tubing, bobsledding, zip lines)

https://utaholympiclegacy.org/location/utah-olympic-park/

Ricochet Canyon (Unique Train-themed FEC with two small dark rides)

If you come during the week before Lagoon's haunt opens, some haunts in the state would be open during that time. Here's the top of those that should be open when you come down if you're interested in any of them.

Castle of Chaos

Fear Factory

Nightmare on 13th

At the park right now. Power just went out but so far I've managed to ride Cannibal, Roller Coaster, Colossus the Fire Dragon (twice), Wicked, and Wild Mouse.

Hopefully power gets back on soon so we can hit Jet Star and maybe some flats (plus maybe more rides on Cannibal depending on line).

Cannibal, Roller Coaster, BomBora, and Jet Star 2 all have Co-Gens and can/do operate in the event 1 or more legs of power have been lost. Not sure if Roller Coaster's Co-Gen is back online after they moved it to the other side of Reduction or not. Most other rides at Lagoon have Generators, or other means, to power the rides or lower/move them to a home position, resulting in ride evacs in only extreme cases.

Hey! Just a shot in the dark: Does anyone happen to know what times of day that Lagoon-A-Beach will be most crowded? I'm primarily coming for the coasters and thrill rides, but I'd like to get on some slides too. Haven't been in a long time.
The hottest part of the day, so from noon to probably 4pm on weekdays, or open to 4pm.

I went a few weeks ago on Saturday. I thought it was pretty busy, but I heard some locals saying the rainy forecast (which never happened) kept people away. The longest ride line was Terroride and Wild Mouse at 30 minutes. Lagoon's queue lengths are comically short (their queues can't hold more than 15-20 minutes worth of people) and you have the single rider lines at Wicked and Cannibal.

If you want to do the haunts, get the Time Warp pass and don't look back. It was $15-17 and I didn't wait more than 5 minites for every haunt. I heard others say the haunt lines were around a half hour.

Since nobody has done so yet, thought I might post this update I found from Coaster Studios on the supposed new coaster at Lagoon - massive land clearing and stuff being stuck into the ground. Thoughts? Personally this is quite intriguing, I didn't know until today that Lagoon's apparently planning a new coaster. Very exciting!

Interesting. I'm pretty new to this whole speculation thing but I looked up the trademark and https://trademarks.justia.com/875/53/primordial-87553502.html boom

I found a thing.

For those that don't follow the link, this is listed under "Statements"

"Entertainment in the nature of an amusement park ride; Entertainment services, namely, providing an amusement park ride in the nature of a roller coaster"

So I guess they really are building a roller coaster called Primordial.

I'm excited for anything new at Lagoon, but the fact that Primordial is on a much bigger plot of land than Cannibal is exciting. Personally I'd love to see another really big coaster. I feel like Cannibal is kinda a black sheep in Lagoon's lineup since it's so much bigger than everything else (except Rocket). I'm not sure that's where this is going, but I'd like it to! It would really balance things out.

The current construction area is more than double the size Cannibal takes up, and there's a huge hole in the middle of it. It's exciting to see! I hope Primordial becomes the dark ride/roller coaster hybrid it's been rumored.

If there is a just and loving god then this will be a clone of Karnan from Hansa Park. That thing is life changing.
