The Magic Springs & Crystal Falls Discussion Thread

Just do the SLC trick where you don't ride it and go buy a beer instead

Fixed

Hahaha.

And good luck finding a beer at Magic Springs. You'd think it would be in the building labeled "Biergarten," and it's certainly not in any other place, but the chance of them actually staffing said Biergarten are about as good as Hillary Clinton ever setting foot in Arkansas again.

Does anyone think that Six Flags is gonna buy this park? I've heard people talk about that for years, but I wonder if they have plans; of course they couldn't do it now cause of their financial state, but I wonder if they have it planned.

I wouldn't be surprised if Herschend instead tries to snatch it up like they recently did with Kentucky Kingdom considering KK's history with Six Flags.

Magic Springs is planning to reopen on June 1st, pending government approval.

That's rich. Arkansas isn't going to tell them to stay closed, lol. The Gov pretty much ended all restrictions on Friday except the mask policy and it's on it's last leg. Restaurants were packed out all weekend.

I actually think that would be pretty cool. I heard talk about Frontier City going to HFE, but I think Magic Springs would probably work better.

Hot Springs has tons of potential but has seemingly failed to truly capitalize on it. Historic downtown renovation of hotels and such should  be tied to gaming permits to help fund it with stipulations  for historic accuracy. Instead Oaklawn has a monopoly on gaming in town. The trade off should be allowing Oaklawn to host fall horse meets so that it can become part of the Breeder's Cup. If I could get a hold of Magic Springs, I would attach a hotel with an indoor Waterpark on it in a heartbeat and expand the operating season of the dry park to where it is open on the last three weekends of Oaklawn's early meet. You would be shocked at the families that go down there for the races.  It is set up as a perfect cabin fever getaway location to the Metroplex and places like Memphis and Northwest Arkansas. It needs some investment that's for sure

Oaklawn aint hosting the Breeders Cup anytime soon but I know what you mean. Kentucky is kind of the same way where there's so much potential for growth but the horse racing industry won't relinquish control of any type of gaming to anyone else. Meanwhile sportsbooks right across the rice in Indiana are absolutely raking it in, oh well.

Has anyone visited this park in the last couple years? How is it? Any experiences to share?

My friend and I are doing a theme park road trip this July and we will be starting in Dallas and ending in Chicago. On the way from Six Flags Over Texas to Silver Dollar City, we have the options to either visit this park or Frontier City. We are leaning towards this park since it seems much more attractive and unique than Frontier City, but I'm looking for any advice anyone may have. I know there were rumors about X Coaster closing but the park has a fairly active Instagram and it seems to have been operating last season (and before) and they are advertising it will operate this season when they open in May.

Any updates on the place in general?

It's been a few years since I've been, but between the two I'd probably pick Frontier City. MS has bigger and more interesting coasters I guess, but they are rough and will beat you to hell. X-Coaster is pretty cool, but aside from that it's a woodie that isn't taken care of, a meandering (albeit historic) arrow mine train, and a Vekoma hang-and-bang. There aren't many other rides. The water park is the main draw. Last time I went the place was on it's third owner in nearly as many years and had been given the "landlord special" with fresh paint slopped everywhere instead of actual maintenance and focus on the guest experience.

Frontier City isn't amazing by any means but it is a well rounded little park. It's not as nice with the current rendition of SF leadership, but the arrow shuttle is not to be missed and that Schwartzkopf is becoming a rare credit.
