maliboomer
Okay, I was in New Zealand earlier this year and I have finally gotten round to writing a trip report for I think their only theme park. This TR will be quite long, because I can't help going into detail. We (friend and I) arrived for the parks opening, expecting it to be hardly busy, but were met with a queue that took about 20 minutes. Finally getting under the tacky entrance, we found a map and headed around the park to their mine train, Gold Rush. The queue was thankfully almost empty; expect for some ffing school break activities parties which delighted us with their amazing language. The line itself went through a supposed cave, with factoids and gears etc lying around. Once we boarded a four person mine cart the ops took about 20 minutes to dispatch us, where the train rolled gently round a banked downwards curve, and started a little tour of the miners dig site. Inevitably, something went wrong and a the ride swooped around inside the caves before interacting quite well with the log flumes drops and the timing for us meant that a log dropped as soon as we passed by, getting us slightly wet. We headed for the ride we had seen quickly on Gold Rush, the very Enchanted Log flume. It actually started off with quite good theming, and then after a small drop the logs led us to the Enchanted Forest of Tackiness. It has corny music, crappy animatronics, the whole 9 yards. Once again a mistake was made. We realised this when a frog whose eyes were red, either from crack smoking or the fact infrared cameras were in his eyes, told us we were in grave danger! The ride led us through some ghost/monster scenes and around a corner, and out and down the drop which was somewhat fun and mediocre at the same time. They took your photo too, from a devilishly exposed camera, for 15 bucks. After leaving the ride we started walking to the left, and were met by a sign saying 'Power Surge! Only forty steps away'. Once we reached it, in all its Zamperla glory, we joined the queue which was about ten minutes, so not that bad. The ride was good, probably one of the best, as it actually managed quite a few negative G's and was as disorientating as X. We rerided it later and someone has a Protein Spill mid ride, which was disturbing, but not that bad. One con, the restraints smelt so ugh, like awful B.O... Directly opposite Power Surge was an Arrow triple inversion coaster sponsored by Coca Cola. Its layout was basically turn, hill, turn, drop, loop, turn, corkscrew, corkscrew, turn, brakes. I really don't see why that had to be so unpleasant. The ride was fair enough up the 90 foot hill, and the loop was fine but the teeth chattering started on the turn to the 'screws. They themselves were just so painful, I had to hold my restraint and force my head straight. My IQ dropped like, 50 points. My body now hates me. We crawled back to near the entrance and decided we needed some Intamin goodness to fix our heads and got in the queue for their drop ride. The line looked empty and after the first pig pen we saw a small line that curved around near the tower. I swear there were about 30 people in that queue. We boarded 20 minutes later. You could blame the towers capacity which was only 8 riders, but the dispatch was really slow. Anyways, the ride was fun as they always are and we rerided so we saw the views from each side, one being over Manakau city and the other over the park. What was great is I don't get the sensation I used to on drop rides where it was like I was dieing of being so nervous, and now it’s actually quite nice. After we had some lunch, hit the kiddy zone for a ride on their coaster (credit whores) which was tire driven, but I count it! Did their simulator which was okay, but dating and, rerided everything. They could do with another coaster, as the parks lacking in that field. Anyways, we had a good time and if you happen to be in NZ you should go. If you read the whole thing, you deserve some pics. The slightly tacky/crowded entrance Gold Rush, from the entrance The drop wasn't promising, though Prepare to die on the Log Flume It isn't really worth 15 dollars Powersurge was fun, but the restraints should be deB.Oitised Just keep spinning, spinning... Since you sucked, you only get one picture! Thank god, therapy These seats are comfy too! You get a third picture! I might post more pics later, if this wasn't enough.
