  1. ^ Yeah I believe after years of being next to the ocean it finally rusted out as the story goes. It went down for ages where they tried to fix it, it reopened for a short time before going down again and rumour is management told them do what you have to, spend the dollars to get it back, it's an icon of the park. In the end however it just couldn't be fixed and when that decision was made it disappeared pretty quickly. They've also filled in a large section of the lake, so here's hoping for a really cool replacement.
  2. It looks like this flat isn't the only thing we'll see from Movie World, with a development application for a Roller Coaster approved. RCDB says it will open in 2017 and is an extreme steel sit down coaster. They also had applications in for a lakeside precinct, entertainment precinct and Hotel.
  3. Well back in 2013 a 145m tower was proposed themed to Doomsday. A description for the rides reads: "The ride experience would feature a low speed setting perfect for those who want to get a bird’s eye view of the Gold Coast. The ride would also feature a high speed setting to get hearts racing for thrill seekers. On the low speed setting, the ride would travel slowly up and down the tower and then rotate slowly at the top of the tower, while on the high speed setting it would zoom to the top of the tower then spin at a high speed. Riders would be seated in one of three gondolas which each feature twelve seats. Riders sit in individual seats where their legs hang free and they are secured by a chest harness. A height restriction of 110cm would apply for safety reasons. During the day the ride would operate in both “scenic” mode and “thrill seeker” mode at pre-designated times." This was however was suppose to go into the helix of Superman. This ride appears to be going between Scooby Doo & Wild West Falls, in front of the unused Stage Show. The press release talks about looping and an interview talks about being inverted, so this plan is obviously out. Most people seem to be guessing an Intamin Suspended Twin Hammer.
  4. I think you mean Wet'n'Wild Gold Coast, and whilst yes it has a coaster (which was originally designed to go to Sea World), I think in terms of ride quality, count and how its been designed (layout) this park will have the edge. Its only $10 more than the Gold Coast version. White Water World, Dreamworld's waterpark IMO is weak compared to what the VRTP offer, and is only $15 cheaper than the Sydney park, its only designed to compliment the theme park and since it's only had 2 mediocre rides added since its 2005 opening, while Wet'n'Wild has had something like 7 additions. Granted this park has a much higher yearly pass, compared to its sister Gold Coast combined pass the Gold VIP, which was about $110 when I bought it and includes unlimited entry to Sea World, Wet'n'Wild, Movie World, until June 30 2014, and one free entry to Movie World's Fright Night and White Christmas and is now only $79.99. However the 2 Gold Coast park operators appear to be in a pricing war with their yearly passes. Its clear Sydney want you to buy their yearly pass, like the Gold Coast parks want, heck its more expensive currently to buy a day ticket to Sea World and Movie World ($84.99) than to buy a VIP Pass! Nonetheless they've priced to the market, I predict this park is going to see huge crowds everyday, no matter what people have said about the prices it won't stop how busy this park will be and they know that, hence the pricing. The park also now has the website up and running, with opening hours appearing to be 10am to 10pm with special lighting installed on the slides for nighttime. http://wetnwildsydney.com.au/
  5. We haven't seen any new additions that have cost up around the $16 million since Superman, but what we have seen lately is the increase in frequency of new additions. It was usually around 4 years a new attraction came along to the parks and you would generally find the additions spaced out. However, lately since towards the end of 2011 VRTP gave us Green lantern, Justice League, a re-theme of an old roller coaster from Lethal Weapon to Arkham Asylum, Aqualoops, a new waterpark about to open in Sydney, Seal Harbour, Spongebob Parade, Storm, Polar Bear extension, the new Wild Exhibit and in the year before in 2010 Penguin Encounter and Castaway Bay. We also know they're planning for a Looney Tunes River Ride replacement, which they did announce was some sort of driving car ride (however it has disappeared lately). While they're not spending the big outlays VRTP seem to have gotten very smart in how far they stretch their dollar in what they spend. In Australia, theres an interesting reaction to this proposed ride, half seem to be against, while the other half are all for it. I'm all for it, however I don't if the theme is quiet right, especially if your trying to say there is a gentle cycle. I would have preferred to see something more like Lex Luther themed with the tower and base themed to The Daily Planet. Because to be honest I had no idea this guy was a comic character and I don't think the general public will either. Many people have always advocated for a ride in this section at MW because as it stands its just an empty parcel. However, I think some people are worried people will confuse it with the Giant Drop and say it isn't as good, and that it will dwarf Superman standing at 40 metres and Batwing standing at 60 metres. I'd also like to see the rest of the area see some love, maybe a new flat ride in the old Lethal Weapon cinema currently not used, like a Vekoma Madhouse and a eatery in the old Lethal Weapon gift shop (currently unused) and do whatever they are planning to the currently closed off old China Town Alley to breath some new life into that section. I think one reason people are completely for it is other parts of the park are needing some love currently, such as the Looney Tunes kids area and the Wild West area, with a new stage show in the currently unused stage show building since so much love has been given to the front of the park lately. However, the park faces challenges from neighbours living behind the park, hence the reason the reason they keep investing at the front IMO.
  6. I've been through the search pages but couldn't find a post for this anywhere, so I hope I haven't missed it someone already posted the link, but I am quiet sure you've all seen the photo on Facebook for Sea World's next addition 'Wild', which they are already promoting before they've even open 'Storm'. Well going back a couple of months now the Gold Coast Bulletin (the local paper) printed this article about the upcoming attraction: The photo Sea World posted has now been changed and pushed back a year to 2015. This photo from NearMap is old but it gives you an idea of where the ride is going and the current land reclamation currently taking place Meanwhile, Sea World recently had the birth of their first baby Polar Bear: With Sea World just about to open the brand new enclosure allowing all 4 bears to be on show at once An artists impression of the new enclosure The latest photo from the park of mum and cub only posted 3 days ago However, the opening of the new enclosure Sea World plan to maximise of this and the water roller coaster Storm so they've pushed the opening of the coaster back from the spring holidays, about to start to the summer holidays. Looks like the trains will be themed to Coast Guard boats. The latest pic from NearMap of the coaster and in the left the construction is for the Polar Bear exhibit I'm hoping the old Bermuda building (the one with Sea World written on the top) will provide for a really cool queue area and themed dark section for the ride, which VRTP have proved they are very good at it. Hope all of this information hasn't been posted before, but I couldn't for the life of me find a Sea World thread, unless I'm completely blind.
  7. Well considering the Sydney airport is about to reach capacity... I think the argument about people coming in is fine! Wonderland, had poor management and no new attractions for years leading up to its close. This park has the backing of a rapidly growing company Village Roadshow, who are also set to announce a park in China based on their Sea World property on the Gold Coast with plans for Wet'n'Wild there as well!! http://finance.ninemsn.com.au/newsbusiness/aap/8549591/village-expands-into-china-with-sea-world
  8. The third video for 'Fright Nights' now only a week away from its opening night.
  9. Posted by the parks Facebook page "It’s official you will be able to join in the ultimate battle between good and evil on Justice League 3D The Ride THIS WEEKEND! Starro The Conqueror awaits you... " For anyone that remembers riding the Batman simulator that window and the walls were apart of the old Wayne Manor and has now gone from being wood to marble. And this from Sally's Facebook page as the facade was finishing up Once again those might remember that use to be the facade to the Wayne Manor, a huge improvement. A review, with photos can be found here p://www.parkz.com.au/article/2012/09/21/301-Justice_League_3D_launches_at_Movie_World.html The park is now looking gearing up towards Halloween and has begun releasing videos about an outbreak and potential overrun of Zombies at the theme park for Fright Nights. They have also been out in park with "decontamination teams" and scanning people and telling them how to survive the walking dead as part of the advertising leading up to the event.
  10. Media day was today, with an opening to the public tomorrow. From pics I've seen it looks pretty "WOW"
  11. http://www.parkz.com.au/article/2012/07/16/297-Water_coaster_bound_for_Australia_in_2013.html Since Movie World is getting a dark ride this year and got a coaster last year & Dreamworld just got a coaster, I would guess it is going to Sea World. Can we actually have a new thread created to discuss this ride and Sea World Australia, because I don't think one exists for it yet, or does someone with more knowledge know of one on here?!?! Nonetheless this is going to be awesome ride I reckon, a water coaster with a storm theme should be a pretty good combo and separates itself from the US Sea World parks. Its pretty clear know its also going to replace Bermuda Triangle since an application has been placed to have it demolished! Also, don't know if its been mentioned here yet, but according to Screamscape Village Roadshow Theme Parks are looking at extending their Wet'n'Wild brand into Las Vegas. This would also come into line with another article about the company going Las Vegas, as well as other regions including Asia. The company currently has Wet'n'Wild on the Gold Coast, Australia (with what looks to a new slide about to be built), Wet'n'Wild Sydney which has just been given the green light, Wet'n'Wild Hawaii and Wet'n'Wild Phoenix.
  12. Taken from the Warner Bros. Movie World website page, where the announcement for their new ride was posted a couple of hours ago. "This September, Warner Bros. Movie World will launch an epic 3D interactive ride experience like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Get ready for the most thrilling battle of your life on JUSTICE LEAGUE: Alien Invasion 3D. Earth is under alien attack and we need your help! Grab your laser blaster and join SUPERMAN, BATMAN and an army of Super Heroes in a 3D battle against millions of evil alien spores. Will you achieve the highest score? This epic battle between good and evil is about to begin and we need YOU! Only at Warner Bros. Movie World this September!" http://movieworld.myfun.com.au/rides-and-attractions/family-entertainment/justice-league.aspx Looks like what most people were saying were right, including myself, that this will be a shooting dark ride. In other news for the park, the Journey to the Centre of the Earth 4D film is out to make for Ice Age, also taken from the parks website. "This June, get ready for an adventure of mammoth proportions – Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs – The 4D Experience! Our favorite sub-zero heroes, Manny, Ellie and Diego venture into a mysterious underground world after Sid the Sloth stumbles across three abandoned eggs and decides to raise them as his own. Once the eggs hatch, the adventure begins in the lost world of the dinosaurs! Featured in eye-popping 3D with an all-star voice cast, including Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary and Queen Latifah, Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs delivers more thrills, more chills, and more mammoth-sized laughs for everyone!" http://movieworld.myfun.com.au/rides-and-attractions/family-entertainment/ice-age-4d.aspx Also, their sister park, SeaWorld, are getting a Dinosaur exhibit for the winter school holidays, from their FaceBook page "Dinosaur Island coming to Sea World! This June, step back in time and discover the long lost world of dinosaurs with a brand new interactive attraction. Get ready for the biggest thing in over 65 million years as you witness dinosaurs come to life on the amazing Dinosaur Island."
  13. Well all the reviews seem to say how fantastic the ride is with the new trains. I just hope later down the track they purchase a second train. On the statistics of the ride MW are now claiming the train runs 5km faster at now 85km instead of 80!! China town is still closed, don't know if its going to stay like that and open up with something new in there or open later done up to Arkham. Also you no longer enter through the original entrance, through the cinema, instead on the side closer to the SE. You don't even go near the cinema now, although the queue railings are still there; so maybe in time they might put a walk-through attraction or another ride!?!? They have also given their ride loaders orange jumpsuits as their uniform and guard uniforms to the ride operators in the booth. The park is now also trialling a Fast track system... similar to that of Disney's fast Pass. Parkz did a really good update today of whats happening in the park and the new ride, with photos from the media preview event. http://www.parkz.com.au/update/2012/04/06/#295 Theme Park Coverage also posted a POV, which I think is the one Jordan M. was talking about, given to them by MW, you can also see people riding it (with no head bashing) and the smooth finish thanks to magnetic brakes.
  14. MW this morning have posted photo's on their FB of some of theming going on the Arkham Asylum, in particular the tower: The rest of the photos are here:
  15. Didn't really want to start a new thread for DW here, but I thought it might be worth mentioning that Dreamworks (since Shrek left MW) has gone to DW. Nickelodeon has now left DW and gone to SW and Nick Central is being turned into 3 themed areas. 1. Shrek, 2. Madagascar, 3. Kung-Fu Panda. They are advertising to open this weekend but they have had some really bad weather lately and look behind. I don't live there so I can't get photos but Parkz have put some photos of the progress on their site and Outsiders Australia have put the most recent update on their Facebook page to show the areas progress and from the photos it really does look good at the moment!
